The week ahead…

We both felt really awful yesterday. It seemed like an allergy type thing as we know it’s not Covid. ( no fever, no cough,) But still kinda headachey, and low energy. Sometimes I’ve had days like this out of the blue, but not on the same day as B. He just took it easy all day. I pushed thru and did most of the kitchen zone. I thought maybe it was a reaction to the air quality since we had been out walking but I’m not sure. When were out we always have masks on and we use sanitizer. Plus, everywhere we went people were 99% masked. So kinda a question mark.

We both feel better this morning but I still feel slightly off. I had plans to get my labs this morning but rescheduled for tomorrow. If this is allergy thing, my counts will show lower so I thought better to wait a day. I don’t see my doctor till the very end of the month so I have time to get my labs and results before hand. I don’t like the surprise of waiting. It reminds me of when I was first diagnosed and all the tests and waiting and then the dreaded phone calls. Now I’d rather know before hand and adjust my headspace.

I did make a lovely smoky lentil soup( William Sonoma recipe)( you can get from their website.) for dinner but that’s it. Usually I’ll make grilled cheese or have some homemade bread but that didn’t happen. I put together my monthly meal plan. I write it out but I don’t follow the days exactly. So we had the lentil soup Sunday not the frittata. I just use the template as a guide. Then I check off what we have eaten.

You can see I still have a few squares to fill in. I plan on looking at some cookbooks today. I also try to do one or two new recipes a month.

We are in cooler temperatures today and the air looks good. I keep thinking that maybe walking in the park with the air quality unhealthy affected us. On the other hand we’ve been doing it now since the fires started and haven’t been affected so who knows. It’s a mystery.

I was laughing maniacally( joke) when I read Trump was on Dexamethasone. How funny!! As anyone who has been on Dex,off and on for years, you know it masks aches and pains and other ills because it is such a high dose steroid. The problem is what goes up must come down and when he’s off it, then the problems could resurface especially his coughing. Oh well, he deserves it and more. Honestly, driving around in his armoured car infecting others or at least the possibility, is pure evil. Just for a photo op.

The week has B’s video appt with the nurse practitioner and labs. If the air stays nice we might do that drive up to Tahoe to see the lake. Maybe pack a picnic.

well, not good news on my labs:(

My kappa light chains went up to 176mg/L so a 66 point increase.

Lambda only to 13. mg/L ( normal as I am not Lambda myeloma)

ratio up to 13.44 so a 4 point increase.

Not happy but what can you do. I will see my doctor at the end of June. Not sure if I’ll do the video conference or just go down to Sac. Probably I’ll go down. I mean he isn’t going to start treatment yet anyway, but I’d like to check in physically.

We’re still looking at when I hit 500 mg/L so that maybe January. Or if things speed up sooner. You can’t really tell how it will go except it won’t go down.

I won’t lie that it doesn’t upset me but since this month is my 15 year since diagnosis( I’ll write about that later), you do get somewhat hardened to the fact that remission isn’t forever.

Other matters, B had his BMbiopsy Wednesday and was pretty loopy from the drugs but he said it went well( if enduring one of the most painful procedures you can go thru, can be ok).

I haven’t done any grocery shopping since the Costco Instacart last week. But I will go tomorrow as I need salad stuff and milk. I’d like to get to Trader Joes maybe next week.  I guess it all depends.

We’re in for a cool down here in Northern Ca. It’s been hot but not 100 degrees hot, just 95 degrees hot.

I read in the WP another Confederate statue was taken down. It was some Admiral. They did it either at night or early morning and it was whisked away. Good Riddance.  I also read that Lafayette Park where the peaceful protesters were attacked by the police used to be a slave market. One of the biggest. maybe Trump should read( ha ha ha) some history about the cruelty of selling black people.

After not knowing what happened to my posts and pictures I just gave up. But then when I did an edit it seemed to work but by then I wasn’t into it anymore. Plus I can’t remember the flow of the blog at that point.

But I was at the dentist to do the last 2 trays of Invisalign and will go back in 2 weeks for 2 fillings and the fitting of a temporary retainer. I think the dentist just wants to be done with it as at this point there’s no money in it for him.

Then I decided to go tour local bakery ,which is always pleasant, and write the blog. But that’s when the problems started and it may have been their Wifi connection. So after trying 3 x’s I gave up.

I also wanted to rant about Trump’s response to the Jewish Temple massacre and how insensitive he is.  Saying it would have turned out different if there were armed guards in the temple. Come on, are you that out of touch with people who want to go to church and just pray or worship without it feeling like it’s a prison. Plus, I find it incredibly insensitive that he’s going to Pittsburg today when there are the funerals going on. Plus his rant about ‘the Fake News is the enemy of the people’ is so Orwellian that’s it’s enough to scare the bejesus right out of me. Well, since I’m an atheist I guess that’s not the case but still it is scary.

It is really upsetting what is going on in this country. The hate. The violence. The racism. It seems like we are going backwards. I just hope enough people vote Democrat so we can at least put some kind of controls on Trump. The way he talks IS inciting violence and encouraging right wing nut jobs to act in a violent manner. Something has to change.

Well, enough of my rant. Today I’m going to go to Trader Joe’s for some items. That means I’ll be skipping the gym so I’ll do that tomorrow.

My daughter leaves for a library conference tomorrow in Salt Lake City so she’ll be one the rest of the week.

Catching up

We’re still at Tahoe for a few more days. It’s lovely here with fewer kids running around and therefore quieter.  Mostly retired folks.  There are a few families here and there but even the beach is dramatically less busy. Of course, this is the weekend, so it’ll get busier.

We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary here and planned to go to a fancy place for lunch. But the menu wasn’t impressive and it turned out not to be fancy but order at the counter. This was The Ridge if you’re interested.  So we decided to make fancy cheese and avocado sandwiches in camp and it was perfect. We’ll do something special out sometime. I’m not one to hold to ‘it has to be’ this way so it was easy.

We’ve had 3 Lodge dinners and last night was a pizza again. So much fun to cook with the Lodge.  But tonight we’re thinking a soup or quesadilla. Just an easy meal.

We had fun going to Goodwill and then we’ve been at the grocery store almost every day for either ice or whatever.  But since Safeway is just up at the corner it’s convenient.

We also have been to the gym twice and that was good to do some weights. I need to ramp up my workouts.

OMG, I forgot, the best news of all my LABS came in the normal range. I’m going on 14 months. Pretty amazing!!!!! I see my oncologist the first week of September so it’ll be just a touch base with him. So relieved and obviously, happy.

On a political note, it’s just amazing Trump would pardon Arapio(sp?) . I mean can we go any lower. And now banning transgender going into the service. We are going backward.  Geez, hard to really comprehend how low Trump can go.

Oh, and how bout it’s okay to leave up the Confederate statues to represent oppression because the civil war was about taxes(which I’m sure was part of the picture) and slavery was legal( so it wasn’t about that)?. So we need to keep them as symbols of respect…Well, I’m obviously being facetious and referring to another bloggers post about the whole statue thing so I’ll leave it at that.  This is my blog and I’ll write what I want just as she can write what she wants. We’re all entitled to believe what we believe as long as it doesn’t oppress or hurt others. I’m pretty sure that’s what neo nazis and white supremacists want to do.

Anywho…. it’s a beautiful day in Tahoe. I hope the hurricane in Texas didn’t cause too much damage.

Simple Sunday

It has been a nice day. No rain. Ha Ha. Still cold and frosty when we walked at 6:45 am. On Sundays, we try and go later and give ourselves a little break. Tomorrow marks the end of month 7 of year 4 of walking every day in the just keep walking project. I think the worst day last week was when the wind was blowing, the rain was pouring, and I was coughing. We only did 1 round. But intentional walking.

I went to the gym and it was very empty so that was nice. They do keep the music a little loud for my tastes but I put my earbuds in and it lessens the noise.

I’m certainly anxious about my labs this week but will go forth and hope for the best. I still feel good but with myeloma, sometimes that’s tricky. But even if my numbers go up( which is the trend) I think they’re still going to be in the normal range.

We finished our taxes with Turbo Tax and it was pretty easy. Changing the deductions and upping our 401 k last year will yield us a refund. First time in years. So yeah for that.

Of course, I have to write something about Trump and his insanity and instability. i am really scared of where all this is going. The man is certifiably nuts. His reality is so warped.  The pictures of the inauguration show fewer people. He tried to get the NPS to actually find pictures that showed his inaccurate statement of it was million and a half people. It clearly was not. But he still believes it was plus the voter fraud. There was no voter fraud to the tune of 3-4 million illegal votes. it just is impossible and he will not see reason because he is a narcissist who cannot accept he didn’t win the popular vote. But what starts getting scarier is this administration trying to take away a womens’ right to an abortion. We are going back to the 1960’s people. Wake up.  You may not believe in abortion for yourself but we must as women have the right to decide. Not some politician or man in Washington.

Then the whole immigration thing is almost more than I can take. Why is he excluding the 4 countries including Saudia Arabia that was responsible for 9/11. Because he has business dealings there. That’s the long and short of it. Closing immigration is not going to keep us safer.  Right now the vetting system is extensive. It takes over 2 years to get a visa. What are these people thinking , it is just insanity.  Then on Holocaust Remberence day for the President of the United States to not even say it was the Jews who were the target and millions of Jews died at the hands of the Nazis is utter disrespect for the whole tragic thing. To just say innocent people died is to undermine how tragic the Holocaust was.  Millions of JEWS were murdered in gas chambers. Yes, many others did too but the whole reason for Nazi Germany was to eliminate the Jewish race. It was unbelievably disrespectful of Donald Trump to say what he said. The White Supremacists want people to believe it didn’t happen the way it did. They want it to be just ‘innocent’ people, not Jews.

This is wrong and I hope to the stars that we get thru this.

 

Dinner is a red lentil curry soup and some left over potroast I was going to shred and put on some tortillas.

There’s another storm…

Well, there’s two really. Outside it’s raining and the wind is blowing. Already on of the dead bark beetle trees has fallen over. I hope it ends soon. But it says rain and wind till 9 pm tonight so,…….. gulp…. I don’t like when it’s dark and windy. Oh well.

The second storm is on Friday with Trump’s inauguration. Honestly, I feel like I’m in a Twilight Zone episode. Oh, BTW, did you read or see some of the cabinet members interviews. I mean, this is what I’ talking about that Trump picks billionaires and supporters not qualified people. The Dept. of Education, Devos, actually thought the repeal on the ban on guns in school was a good idea because in some schools(she was referring to Wyoming), there’s Grizzly bears and you might just need a gun. OMG people, is this what we have to endure. Then she goes on when questioned about the IDEA program, which has to do with equal educational opportunities for disabled students, and she doesn’t even know what it is.  Really, and she is ultra conservative Christian. Remember folks, there’s a reason for a separation between state and church.

OMG, even better is Ben Carson’s answer to Elizabeth Warren’s question about could he guarantee that not a single taxpayer dollar would benefit Trump or his family. So he says, , OMG, get ready,he  wouldn’t  do anything to benefit any American. Of course that’s not what he meant.But really he’s qualifed to be HUD’s head beacuse he grew up in a tenement house. Well, JFC, I grew up on Welfare and food stamps, so maybe I should head that department.  It’s just so strange.

Really, Trump is a narcissistic nut job and time will tell. I guess the bottom line those that think Trump is the best thing that ever happened won’t  change their minds or even be open, but just continue to think it’s because of all the left stuff. And for hating Obama, he will go down as one of the greatest presidents.  One fact, just in case you want to know, unemployment is at it’s lowest in a decade 4.9 % I think. So what’s the deal with bringing jobs. We have the lowest unemployment in years thanks to Obama. Just a fact.  I’m sure there’s tons more but I still have this cold and although I feel fine I’m coughing a lot.

Well, enough of my rant.

 

Is it over yet??

We have been under storm watch for days and days. I 80 is still closed and has been for over 24 hours. It takes a lot to close this main pass in the Sierras. The rain was nonstop yesterday and came down in torrents at times. There also was the wind but I think we escaped the worst of it. It’s still raining off and on. I’m really sick of this and hope it passes soon and we get to dry out. There’s flooding all over the place in the foothills and Sacramento Valley.

Not doing too much different. Reading and tidying some. I’ve added a new page at the top of my blog for books in 2017 if you’re looking for something to read.

It’s still very depressing that in 9 days Trump will be president. His tweeting is ridiculous behavior for a president. I mean, what is he  like 14?? Plus he’s always saying something negative or untrue in his tweets. he says he never mocked the disabled reporter, but there it is recorded for all to see. Yet, he still is in denial. Whoa, that is pretty scary stuff.

Well, I hope something gets better politically. Just think of all the people especially like us with cancer( preexisting condition) and what that means for health insurance. That is very scary. Plus the GOP has no replacement. I don’t care what anyone says the ACA has helped millions of people get affordable health care. With the subsidies and credits, it is helping the people who need it the most.  If someone’s premiums have gone up, maybe it has to do with income bracket. I don’t really know. I’d be curious to know what are the income parameters.

Anyway, it’s all kinda depressing so I’m going to go read a book.

I’m trying a new recipe of Jambalaya. I’ve never made it so I have some shrimp to use and cooked rice. I don’t have the andouille sausage, but do have some Adele’s chicken sausage so… I’m going to give it a try. I’ll make the rice with peppers etc first so the veggie can have that and then add the shrimp and sausage later. I’ll let you know…..

I don’t know if I can take anymore about the election. Trump is such a misogynist, liar, racist, womanizer and on an on. How is it people are still willing to vote for him. I just do not get it. He deleted more emails than Clinton. He has done bankruptcy how many times, he thinks he’s smart because he doesnt pay taxes. Really, and you still think he’s a better choice. That is really scary. He has no plan except, oh, I’ll cancel Obamacare. Well, WTF, with that. It’s way smarter to try and improve what is in place and correct the problems. Yes, it has flaws, but insurance is available for all people now when it never was before. Oh, and I dont want to hear how people are paying for it for those who can’t afford it. That’s what our taxes do for social services anyway.  Honestly, Trump can’t even speak with proper grammar. Is bigly even a word??? Can you imagine him sitting down with world leaders and interupting and making snide remarks. Come on people use your brain. This man is really a dictator and that’s what we would get.

Well, enough of my rant. We all have reasons to believe what we believe. So…my blog is my blog. If you love Trump and he’s the real deal for you, just don’t comment here.
