Simple Sunday

I just finished the bathroom zone. This past week I asked my daughter to use up the bathroom paint and touch up here and there. So it ended up about 1 pint and looks good. One good thing about keeping the same color and absolutely loving it is when you do touchups even a few years later it doesn’t show the beginning or end of the color if that makes sense. the color in the bathroom is called Rarified air by Sherwin Williams and we have had it in the bathroom for years and I never tire of it. It is a very pale blue with probably some grey in it.

The heat is exhausting. Yesterday it was 108. This morning it was 77 on our walk. The annoying dog walker is still there by 5:30 so we just step out of his way as he barrels on by. If I haven’t mentioned this before I will now.  Over the years we’ve been walking every day or near every day ( going into year 9), we’ve had lots of people come and go.  Some great people and others not so great. Recently, probably @ February or March, this guy shows up with a white, very pretty dog. The dog is muzzled and is not a friendly sort. So at first, we were all fine even once or twice said hello. But then he started really fast walking and would come up behind us without saying like ” on your left” or something so I started getting pretty annoyed. Then more and more he would just barrel by and even when we were walking side by side( B and I) he wouldn’t step off the path and just skimmed us. Then I started watching how he was with others and it seemed the same. Also, adding to my annoyance, is that he comes speeding down our main road( speed limit 25mph, he’s doing 45 at least) and then the park roadway to fast and the practically screeches in a 180 to park.  So, I kept hoping as sunrise is way later now, he would adjust and come later. But no luck. This morning we were using a flashlight so anybody else could see us but not him. Just barreling by in the premorning light. Oh well, I’ll adjust but it is annoying.

Last night I made a big Cobb salad with tofu, chicken, avocado, lettuce, carrots, cheese, and some leftover cabbage. It was good. Tonight is probably YOYO. Plus this heat makes cooking not fun.  Although, I made a peach pie yesterday and it was delicious.  It was the NYT recipe for peach pie.

This week is no appts for me but lots for B; he has labs, video conference with Dr. Abedi, and another one with the urologist he was referred to.  But at least it’s not driving to Sacramento so there’s that.

Today would have been the day we headed up to Tahoe but alas, no. The area lakes are being inundated with valley people and ven South Lake Tahoe had protesters telling tourists “go home”. Which says a lot since Soth Lake Tahoe depends on tourism for revenue. But they are coming in hordes and leaving tons of trash. Such a shame people have to be so such slobs.

Well, on that cheery note, I’m off to read or something that involves not moving a lot.

Simple Sunday

Well, it has been a very involved week.

From last Monday when we decided to switch to UCD because it will be in network for the transplant to today when I went to Trader Joe’s.

I haven’t been to TJ’s in a while and there were some specific things I wanted. I read that their mahi-mahi burgers were very good, so I got some of those and lots of other things I’d been keeping a list of.

B had a platelet transfusion and my daughter went and picked him up as I was still down the hill as they say.

It’s supposed to rain off and on all week. I hope that changes as I’m completely done with rainy weather.

This week is the living room zone for those of you following Flylady. I did most everything in about 10 minutes. Last week I had washed the couch covers so they are fresh. I vacuumed yesterday so I’ll do that tomorrow. I like to vacuum every other day.

Dinner is a new recipe of green chile chicken. I’ll bake that not use the IP and have coleslaw on the side.

Friday stuff…

Well, it has been a really busy week with doctor appts, chemo( still 3more days to go), Costco not once but twice. Uhgggg, I ended up going again to Costco today as the Vet didn’t get the dogs pills in on Monday. PITA.  So, it was back down. I ended up getting gas again.  Plus, I figured I’d get the stuff on sale. B has been using Orgain drinks to bolster his food intake and it was on sale. I got both the powder and the liquid. It’s pricey but since he’s lost so much weight (almost 20 lbs) the doctor and I want him to eat eat eat. He’s always been way to thin and now it’s critical he gain weight.

Anyway, this has not been a thrifty week at all. I’m not sure if I’m just going to not go to the store for the rest of the month or just minimally. I do need milk and almond milk so that’s more$ right there. Oh well. It’s only Feb 8 so that’s a while till the end of the month but as of right now, I’m over budget. I’ve been budgeting $200 a week for everything, food, and non-food. It’s actually been spot on. Since we do provide food for our adult children it’s more than if it was just the 2 of us. My daughter does pay rent/food but my son who’s in school full time we let slide.

I’ve also been on the phone a lot, which I greatly dislike, arranging payments for the hospital bill for B’s port placement and the surgeon. I did the one over 4 months at $350 a month and the other over 10 months at $270. They were very accommodating but still not really budget friendly. Well, at least they let us do payments.

We haven’t heard back from the financial coordinator about the insurance for the transplant or sending off the BM kits to the brothers. Maybe next week.

Next week I have an appointment with an SS advisor about Medicare. We are both still covered by B’s insurance but I’m thinking if I switch over to Medicare then that will give us an idea of what our monthly amount will be. I’m sure it’s more than what we pay now but it has to be done sooner or later. So, we’ll see what he says. I need to be sure the drugs I might need in the future such as the Velcade I was on will be covered or at least after we pay the initial amount of our responsibility. Honestly, sometimes I feel as if we are just bumbling thru. Take the SDI, we really had no idea what to put in the form and it was initially rejected.  Then after calling them and waiting forever on hold, we had it figured out.  Still, sometimes I wonder how are we going to navigate this stuff.

Any suggestions for Medicare would be most welcome.

Well, on a more positive note, I’m making a BBQ chicken pizza for dinner and leftover gourmet veggie for the Dad.

Simple Sunday

So far the no-spend month is going fine. I’ve been to the store a few times but nothing extra. I need to go to Costco this week for TP and some fruit and greens for the Vitamix but that’s all(I think).  I’d like to hold off as much as possible but I’ll be down in Roseville on Wednesday for a Dexa scan. So, that maybe when I go.

Things have been rainy and windy here. It looks like the next 10 days are rained filled. I walked this morning and it was quite lovely and it only started sprinkling when I left.

I made a yummy split pea and ham soup last night. I didn’t make a vegetarian one as B isn’t eating much. Once again, I made him some scrambled eggs.  I don’t make Split pea often and this one turned out quite delicious. There’s some to freeze and maybe lunch today.

Tonight I’m making chicken parmesan and some pasta. No salad as I bought a clamshell pack at Grocery Outlet and it was all funky so I gave it to the chickens.

This week is the kitchen zone. So I’ll start that today. Plus it is sheet day. We only have one set of sheets so I wash and dry them and put them back on the bed on Sundays. I am going to get some new sheets but just not sure when. I was waiting for Target to put the linen/cotton blend on sale but so far haven’t seen it.

This week is full of appts which I do not like. But they are necessary and B starts his next round of chemo on Thursday so that means out every.single.day.  I’m sure my daughter and son will help with the driving when they can.

Oh geez, I forgot to update about my damn birth certificate. They returned it (after 6 weeks) REJECTED because the second page of the decree was not included. The clerk had told me, it wasn’t generally ever asked for. Plus they wanted our original certified marriage license WTF I don’t know.  This has been one of the biggest BS things I have ever been thru. So on a whim, I drove down to Roseville to the justice center and expected to wait hours till I could get to the recorders window. Much to my surprise, I sat down after taking the ticket, and I was called in about 2 minutes. I told the clerk what I needed and she said sure. She said it’s rare anyone cares about the second page. So I got what I needed, came home went to the post office to get Priority envelopes (again) and loaded it up and sent it off. I would hope this does it but I’ll keep you updated(probably in another 6 weeks???) What a PITA…..

Well, off to the kitchen zone…
