Stranger things and homemade pasta!

So, I saw the foot doctor on Tuesday and it was odd( again)!! First, they kept me waiting 45 minutes and the only other patient was an elderly woman.  I do not like it when doctor offices make patients wait. Oh, I can see a few minutes or if there’s an emergency, but this seemed just poor timing on the office staff part.

Then I get in there, and he never looks at my foot or presses on the top( meta dorsal (sp??)bones where the fracture was). Then he’s looking at the exact same x-ray as the first one and says, well, it looks like it’s healing.  Whaaaatttt! It’s the same xray that last time you said it was a fracture thru the bone and not just a nondisplaced one.

For a second, I thought, did I miss something?? Did I get another xray and somehow forgot??? It was weird. Then he says do you want to follow up in 3 months? I said, no if it bothers me more I’ll let you know. NOT GOING TO happen. I’ll call someone else.

Anyway, it was all odd.

Then I’m beelining it home, turn on to our road and there are cars backed up all over the place. So in our driveway, a huge oak had fallen across the road and took out some power lines. So, at first, I thought I could just walk up the driveway but the patrolman said no the tree is across the whole driveway. I decided to walk over to the Holiday Market and get a sandwich since by now it was 1pm.  By the time I was done, PGE had cleared the line but the tree wasn’t their responsibility but the property owners. So, I had to park my car and walk up.

ODD, ODD, ODD!!!  WEll, the owners finally called someone and they cut up the tree enough to get a car by. So this giant oak was completely rotten at the base and filled with carpenter ants. The leaves were all still green but not the inside and down it came. Actually, it’s kinda scary to think if I was driving up right when it happened, I’d be squished.

So, today is my oncology appointment, and hopefully, there are no surprises. Well, I know my results so that’s all good.

Then we are going to Costco to pick up dog medications and some things. I’m hoping to be in and out quickly.

At a different Goodwill, I found another pasta maker and it was brand new in box. It’s Imperia. So this one did come with the clamp and I thought well I’ll try it and compare to the Atlas I got for $ 3.00.  The Atlas is older and has some rust spots where the handle goes in, not on the cutters but the other is new.

Then cooked.

Here’s the ricotta filling.IMG_1466.jpg

Then layering..

Then the final product half eaten.

It was absolutely heavenly. Making fresh pasta is so easy.

Now, I think the older Atlas worked a smidge better than the Imperia. But I can’t decide yet so I’m going to try again later this week. The clamp on the Imperia didn’t work well in the model but actually worked great in the Atlas. Go figure.  Also, I could use the Atlas on the stainless steel island but not the Imperia as the clamp didn’t quite fit. So I moved that to a different counter that was not as easy to use. So, I’m undecided. But when I went to Youtube, the Atlas was number one and the Imperia number 5. Still, the Imperia is brand new, the other older.  I’ll do another round soon.

OH, the zucchini chocolate bread was delicious and not sweet at all.

Retail Shock

Yesterday my daughter and I went down to the Apple store in the Galleria Mall. This is quite a nice mall with tons of high-end stores like Louis Vuitton and Tiffany.

My daughter needed to get a new battery put in her iPhone 6.  Now, I haven’t been in this mall in maybe 5 years except to go once maybe twice to Crate and Barrel and then I would only go in thru the doors on the outside. ( not in the mall itself). Well, I tell you, I was completely in overload, shock and, amazement the sheer number of people there and the amount of consumerism going on. Really I felt like my head was going to explode.  There lines of people for 2 things we saw. Finally, I asked someone what they were waiting for. He was so excited,” Free Lipstick””.  JFC!!! Free lipstick???? the line was halfway down the mall.  Then the other huge line was ( I’m guessing here) for Nordstroms’s annual sale. They must have a limit of people in the store at any one time so, there was another huge line.  Really,????? Really???

Then inside the Apple store, it was like an alternative universe. It was so completely shocking the number of people just in there playing with devices and waiting for service.

The other thing was we had come from the gym so we were in gym clothes ( which is generally my uniform of black cotton capris and a white T-shirt). But it looked everyone, was dressed for something I don’t even know what.  I didn’t see one person carrying a water bottle but me. It was really a culture shock.

My daughter and I had a nice lunch though, at Plutos. Pluto’s has great salads and actual roast turkey(real).  We had a lovely turkey sandwich which was delicious, so I guess that’s one thing that was fun.

The parking lot had people circling like vultures. Honestly, if I never go back I’ll be happy.  Anything I want or need really, even from Williams Sonoma( their white kitchen towels are the best I have ever had and last years), I will just buy on- line.

I came home and collapsed in a heap!!! Fortunately,  the drive down and back was fine. My little VW( that is 18 years old), did great and the AC worked wonderfully too.

I guess after seeing this I can only say Wow, people, you need to discover minimalism and zero waste, even if it’s a just a little.  I just cannot even imagine why ALL these people would need to be there on a Sunday!!!

So, tomorrow, I have my foot doctor appt. This is the 1 month follow up. I don’t think it’s completely healed since after walking so much yesterday I can feel some stress on the top of my foot. But it is 92% better.

This morning I did the Flylady zone of the living room.  Washed windows in there and my office area. Then I made a chocolate zucchini bread. I’ll let you know how it is.

Simple Sunday

Boy, it is still hot, hot, hot!!!

Actually, it’s only 98 degrees, .maybe 99, so not over 100 but it feels hotter. I’ve been out in the pool daily with my glass of wine and float around for an hour or so. That’s where I’m headed now.

I went to the gym this morning and did weights.

Tomorrow I head down to Roseville to see the podiatrist FINALLY. How ridiculous is waiting 4 weeks and being referred to 4 different ones till finally, this guy could see me?

But my foot is feeling better so that is a good sign. I’m hoping to get back to walking at least .5 mile a day this week.  🙂 We’ll see…..

It’s too hot to do much but the zone this week is entryways and dining room.  We don’t have a dining room per se, just a table and chairs in the living room area.IMG_1432.jpg

So that’s always an easy zone. The entryways have geraniums and both look good so that’s done too.

It is supposed to cool into the 80’s so I’ll probably get out to the barn for some tidying. It is coming along and I think we may get it pretty well sorted out this summer. There’s a back room in the barn and that needs clearing out and I’ll wash the windows. It’s a hot room as there are windows on the one wall.  But I’d like to move all the extra stuff out of there and just start fresh.

Dinner is unknown except for a salad….

Simplifying , decluttering, rain and more!.

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

– William Morris

I’ve been back in the simplifying mode. I have a huge load to go to the little thrift store in town, but it’s been raining so much ,I haven’t been able to drop off. I read a blog about decluttering and I like his approach of everything needs a home. Pretty much the same as everything in its place and a place for everything. But , I like this little adaptation, that everything has a home or out it goes. I’m looking around and see a few more things to go.

With Christmas decorations up , it’s more visually cluttered, but I love our little bird tree, our snoopy tree, our big tree, and the ugly ornament tree. Yes, that’s a lot but we do enjoy them. My daughter and I did get rid of quite a few ornaments and quite a few of the hallmark boxes for ornaments that were not in the best shape. It takes up less space to wrap them in bubble wrap. I’m hoping to get everything in one plastic bin. That down from 4. It might end up I big bin and a small bin. I have 2 fake trees to give away too. So all in all lots of stuff going. My daughter does a great job purging, my son, not so much, his room is still a disaster zone. But I close the door, it is his space, so I respect that. Oh, I do go in and empty the burgeoning garbage pail.

RAIN,OMG, it was torrential. Our our got almost 4 inches of rain and there was flooding all over. Our driveway looked like a river. I get a little concerned with the ground being so saturated as that’s a way trees fall. But we need the rain in California ,so….

Saw the foot doctor too. It’s spurs on top of my foot. Surgery or ? She was little odd, not very revealing. She said I had a small mass under my ball of my foot from the bone trying to protect itself. She tried to drain it but when nothing happened, she said ,I guess it’s bursitis thing.( not sure if that’s what she said). Anyway I got a cortisone shot, and she wasn’t sure if that would help. She also said my feet don’t land right and I could benefit from orthopedic things to put in shoes, to the tune of $450. I said , let’s do it. She thought the reason the spurs happened is because of this. I’m going to try that, and give it 6 months. Then I’ll reconsider the bone shaving surgery ( yuck!).

I’m off to the library this morning.

maybe I’ll do a little more holiday decorating , if there’s any left to do.

Also, someone suggested to put the friends for sale books in alphabetical order. Good idea.

Not sure what’s on the dinner menu, but probably pasta with spinach as have a lot to use.
