My new legal name…

Well, I’m officially my new name which is my 3rd name of my old name. Are you confused? So Christina is my 3rd listed name on my birth certificate. I have only ever used that name. But my request to NYC records ended in it being sent back as Aurora is my first name on my birth certificate and I have NOTING that ever lists that except my marriage certificate which they would not accept. So 4 months later I have legally changed from Aurora to Christina.

It actually went very smoothly and the judge just granted the request. There were no questions. So the next phase is requesting the records be changed in NYC. I’m hoping for the best but we shall see if it gets kicked back again or not.

In other news, not so good. My husband had some blood work done and there are some problems. Serious problems so I may be off posting for a while till we get him in to see a specialist. I have a lot of anxiety with these things but I’ve been down the rabbit hole before and all we can do is wait till we know more.

The week just went by…

I’ve been busy with stuff around the house and still dealing with the legal name change.

After calling lawyers here, it was recommended to call a NYC lawyer and so I did. I tried a few with no luck and then hit the jackpot with a lawyer who actually specializes in legal name changes. After voice mailing a few times I was able to speak with him. He never mentioned a fee just that he would try and answer my questions. So, the bottom line is that since 9/11 NY’s laws about name changes are extremely strict.  Yes, since I have always used the alias” Christina “( which is my 3rd name but not my first hence “alias”), I do have to do a legal name change. There is no way around it if I want a certified birth certificate.

So, I also asked what do I put as my legal name now because that’s what was confusing, he said it is Aurora Roxana Christina which is how my BC is written. The proposed name is Christina Roxanne. So I was immensely grateful for his advice and he was so nice to talk with.  The next day I sat down and filled in the pages for the court order. Yesterday, I went to the court records and submitted them and paid the fee of $435.  I had not filled in 2 spots for petitioners name so I did that there.  I already have a court date and then I had to go to the paper as it has to be published 4 consecutive weeks.

It was kinda funny as the clerk told me recently 2 of her co-workers had to do the same thing as one of them, the mother had actually spelled her name wrong and so legally she had to go in and correct it.  Really a PITA, but this is only stage 1. I still have to do the NYC stuff and that’s just as confusing. It took me a month to get thru lawyers and legal help center and looking at the papers to get here. So I’m not sure how the NYC thing will play out or how long it will take.

On other news, I’m not walking this morning as I’ve walked every day this week and I need to let my foot rest. Yes, if I over do it I can feel the stress in my upper foot so I just back off for a day. It has been lovely though as all the summer walkers are gone and it’s been only us in the darkish morning.

I’ve been wanting to buy Turkish Towels as they supposedly dry quickly after use so I got these lovely dark grey ones.

They are supposed to get softer and more absorbent with consecutive washes. I love the color. The first time B used his, I thought it didn’t dry as quick as I thought it would. But the 2nd time I used mine it did dry quicker. I may wash them again today as it says after the 3rd initial wash is when you can tell.

I bought 2 and if they are what I hope I’ll buy 2 more at Christmas.  I love how small they fold up too which is a big reason people buy them.

Then I also bought some Corelle cereal bowls since I only had 2 Crate and Barrel ones left.  I am so enjoying using the Corelle and I love how they have such a small imprint.

I’m slowly replacing the Crate and Barrel white dishes with the Corelle. I love how they wash up so easily too.

Today is just some chores in town like Target and then home to finish home stuff.

Tonight is Friday night pizza.

Are we confused yet???

What a strange couple of days it has been. I have taken most of it in stride but that doesn’t mean I’m not pissed off about it.

So first, on Tuesday I head down for my appointment with the Legal Help at the Santucci Justice system. I’m optimistic I’ll get the answers I need. So I get in and start explaining to the legal aid about my birth certificate etc.  So I have booked marked where my questions are on the pages and …so this is where my birth name goes….yes….well and this is what it’s changing to…yes…. oh wait, I better go check on that. .. . !0 minutes later she returns and says the person upstairs’ says “you cannot change a name on a birth certificate except for adoption or paternity”…….Whoa, I say that is not correct. ….. Back up she goes with my paper work.Down she comes in 10 minutes no wiser.  The lady behind me starts chiming in that yes, I can change my name but what are the legal implications for SS, drivers license etc. So I am at that point totally confused. They are both confused. So the one says, ” you better go see a lawyer” JFC*** Really?  So I leave muttering under my breath.

So now, I’m just thinking about it. I can see changing the birth name. But how does that affect my other things? It shouldn’t. But I’d still like to talk to an attorney just to be sure. So I’m going to wait till next week and then see if I can get a consultation with one in Auburn. This is really turning into a 3 ring circus.

I went down to Sacramento for my oncology appointment. All looked good and I asked if I could do labs in 6 weeks and then in 6 more weeks and see him right after Christmas. I really didn’t need to go today but I felt obligated to keep the appointment. Plus I was dring the old van so that makes me a little nervous in all that traffic.

So then I’m talking to him about the patient portal. He says it looks like you haven’t signed up. So I say that I have. Hmmm, something is not right. So I get home sign in and it’s the same one I did sign up for but my records aren’t there except for 2015. Which is what I saw last week.  So I decide to call the help number and finally after waiting 15 minutes, the rep says. Oh, that’s for hospital records( so in 2015 is when I had my sedated bone marrow biopsy). The other patient portal is for the doctor’s office. God damn, how come they didn’t know that at the office there.  So now I need to call them and make sure it’s clear that there is a difference and I still want my labs.  I still feel something is off about it but till I know more there’s nothing to do.

So overall, it’s kinda been a stressful week.  Or at least weird.

We had incredible thunder and lightning and heavy rain last night. It was quite a show. The ground is saturated. But at least we won’t have to do anymore watering. Our bill went down to $99. But that’s still more than I’d like it to be in September.
