I went down to Walmart for a grocery pickup. It went smooth and fast. They really have it dialed in and it was loaded quickly and efficiently. Part of the reason I did Walmart is you just can’t beat their prices. I checked out Campbell’s tomato soup at the store as I didn’t have any. It was $1.99. At Walmart it was .98 . So go figure.
I came home and put together a batch of cranberry orange scones. Scones are fairly easy but sometimes they don’t hold together so we’ll see. The recipe is NYT orange cranberry scones.
This week FL is in the living room zone so I plan on doing a few things this morning. I wasn’t feeling totally great so I’ll leave most of it for tomorrow.
Last night I made what I’m calling Tucson mix. Back when we were at U of A, being vegetarians, there weren’t a lot of options to eating out but there was a small health food shop that sold a bowl of brown rice topped with a medley of zucchini, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and ?? Actually both of us can’t quite remember but I think that was it. They sold a bowl for .99 . So we ate there often. Yesterday I started it in the Staub and simmered most of the day. It turned out delicious. For my son( a meat eater) I sauteed some jalapeno cheddar sausage from costco and we also had some sauteed shrimp if anyone wanted to add that. I’m definitely adding this to the rotation in monthly meal planning. Next time maybe adding a yellow squash. I’m pretty sure it didn’t have eggplant because Barclay doesn’t like eggplant. Anyway it was a good first attempt.
Here’s the pizza from Friday night. Very nice!!
This week’s menu will include breakfast for dinner, Mac and cheese and salad, a new tofu recipe I saw in the NYT for BBQ tofu.
I just finished tidying the living room and dusted. I might do the windows or leave that for tomorrow. I still need to vacuum.
Rain is predicted all week with even the possibility of snow tomorrow. Our walk this morning was cold @ 36 degrees but NO one else showed up so it was nice. Everything was quiet and frosty! I can already tell I’m getting slight tingling( neuropathy) in my foot. Hopefully it will just an annoyance and NOT a problem. Velcade does cause neuropathy so I guess I’ll bring that up at my doctor appt.
It’s going to be a really nice day hovering around 70 degrees. As the week goes on even nicer in the 80’s. Today , I go for my regular labs for my Wednesday shot. The neuropathy i back so I guess that’s what it was before. it’s not intolerable but it does make my legs feel funny and I’m not getting up to walk around too quickly. The dex , of course, masks it for a few days but today its quite noticeable. Only 2 more shots in cycle 5 and then the last cycle 6 will be in June. I suppose there is the consideration of not doing cycle 6 but I’d like to have 3 cycles of no m spike. I guess we’ll see what my doctor says in June. Either way, by July I will be off drugs since he’snot going to do Velcade as maintenance. Whether i get 6 months drug-free or 1 month, we ‘ll just have to wait and see. I hate the waiting game but not much choice there.
Then I have a dental hygienist appointment after my labs and then a rescan for my Invisalign. What a pain. He discovered there was a filing loose behind a tooth and it was blocking the movement of one tooth . So he had to temporarily fix that and then said I needed to have the rescan. PITA..
Oh, the joys…
Yesterday, I made English muffins and they were fun to make. You make a starter kind of like a sourdough then let it rest for 121 hours or so. Then make the dough and slowly rise in the fridge for 24 and then you make little rounds and toast on a griddle. It was pretty cool. And they tasted good. I don’t think I’d make them all the time but it was fun to do. Next up is trying to make bagels.
So we have about 44 days till June 1st and reaching our 3-year mark of walking EVERY DAY. I don’t see any reason to stop, so it’ll be onwards to year 4. Right now sunrise is 6:29 am so we are getting out earlier and probably that will keep going. Walking now around 6:05 am.
But with this last cycle of Velcade it seems I’ve had a lot of leg and feet issues. I know my leg muscles often feel kinda spongey but I think that’s the dex as this has been kinda ongoing for a long time. My leg muscles never seem to feel stronger as a result of walking but if I didn’t walk I’d hate to think how it would be. Hence ,the need to keep walking.
But over the last month, there’s been more achiness in my legs especially at night plus tingling in my feet and some burning sensation. I’ve never had neuropathy so I’m not sure if this is it. Plus it seems restless leg syndrome fits how my legs often feel. Since to complicate matters,I’ve had foot issues with bone spurs and a nerve that causes some numbness in my big toe joint. I saw a podiatrist last year and she gave me a cortisone shot in that area and it helped a tiny bit but not much. She recommended a surgery which I’m not doing at least not.
So, is this neuropathy?? I’m going to go get some B-complex vitamins plus alpha lipic? something.Pat Killingsworth recommended those two things. Are there any other thoughts. ? I’m going to emessage my doctor and at least let him know.
My first labs came in and all my WBC, RBC platelets etc look terrific so I’m happy about that. I’m waiting for the SPEP and light chains to come in probably tomorrow. We had lowered my dex to 16 mg so hopefully, that didn’t impact anything.
So any ideas if this is the beginning of neuropathy? I’m due to start Velcade cycle 5 in 2 weeks. that gives me 2 weeks to see if it gets better, or worse, or stays the same.
Well, I’m kinda slow on the uptake. I think my foot problem is peripheral neuropathy. It seems to make sense since the bunion thing doesn’t really add up. But, I haven’t had any neuropathy so I’m not too sure if this is what it feels like. But it’s all started after I stopped dex, which I’m guessing was keeping this in check? Maybe,? I don’t know. But I’ll see my regular GP, who isn’t really all with the program of MM. But hopefully at least I can rule out something. Anyway, one day it’s ok, the next it’s really hurting and numbish( is that a word)?
today I’m off to do a little training at the library on the iPad. Kinda silly since that’s all I use. But, hey I’ll get paid. Then off to pick up some prescriptions and a few things from the store.
I might go to target but not sure yet.
We have almost decided to not get the oak down, because of the cost factor, and we are still losing some pines down the hill. We are not sure how many more are going to get bark beetle. So I think we’d better wait.
its cloudy today and rain is expected this weekend.
I've been married for nearly 15 years to a wonderful husband and I'm a mom to three great kids ages 12, 11 and 9. Oh, and I just happen to have cancer. Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the blood that is currently incurable but IS considered highly treatable! My goal is to make people laugh, cry or feel a little less alone whether you are a mom, cancer patient or BOTH!
