Simple Sunday

A nice simple RAINY Sunday which is fine with me. It’s just a nice drizzle although there is a winter storm warning for the Sierras. We walked this morning and it was just starting to drizzle as we left.

I went to the gym in Auburn and used the treadmill. I’m using this gym on Sundays for a quick workout to add to what I’m doing. It seems Sunday morning is old men’s morning who don’t use the wipes after using machines:(

Then I went to Safeway for a few things. Groceries are certainly expensive.

Then I came straight home and spent the last 2 hours looking at vintage Levi’s. I pretty much only wear Levis so a Youtuber I like was wearing some great-looking Levis and so I asked her what # they were and she said vintage 501s. So I just spent(wasted) 2 hours looking and didn’t really see what I thought would work for me.

Next week I have my doctor appt and then just the normal stuff. We may go to Costco as their sale stuff starts Wednesday and there are some items we need ie: laundry soap, coffee, toothbrushes and I think a few other things. Other than that same old same old.

The Flylady zone is the living room and entryways. I did the LR zone already so I’ll just tidy the entryways. I think I’ll also do some kitchen zone too. I want to start with all my pantry jars and give them all a wipe-down.

.

More stuff gone!

I finished loading the boxes of stuff into my 2000 VW(Buggie) and corralled Barclay into coming with me to the appt for drop off at Cancer Thrift STore.

We ended up with 5 big boxes. Most of this stuff was of some value and I didn’t want to give it to Goodwill. At the Cancer Thrift it will stay local. In the boxes was all the Fiesta Ware dishes, bowls, cups and the red pitcher. I’d say maybe 30 pieces in all. Then the Malloware vintage melmac. That’s a full service setting for 6.Three stuffed animals: a Peter Rabbit, A Pooh Bear and another Teddy. A very nice vintage Pyrex bowl( red) in near perfect condition. The STar Trek stuff and I can’t remember half the stuff which means it was good for it to go.

I’m working on the Waldorf toys and have them on ebay. I’ve had some interest. We’ll see how it goes. I have gotten rid of all the Waldorf dolls previously because they are cloth and that won’t last. Most of the Ostheimer wooden animals I will keep as I like to use them as displays. They are my friends( the bunnies, foxes, cats, frogs etc.) I also have some children’s books I’m not sure yet how many I want to keep.

These are going on Ebay and are already sold.

After this round I’ll probably reassess and see where I am. I do have a bin of both kids Waldorf main lesson books and I want to get that down to 3-4 nice ones and some watercolor paintings.

I’m heading to Sacramento for my doctor appt now. I will update later.

Just got back and the good news is my kappa is 12.3 ,lambda is 9.99 and the ratio is better than last month at 1.24 So excellent news.

We decided I seea hi in 8 weeks( end of August). He thinks I’ll stay in remission quite a while which is reassuring.

Frugal Friday

My doctor’s appt went well. He’s clearly aware of my increase in kappa light chains and now the m -spike. So I feel reassured that when we move forward with treatment it’ll be the right time. Again at this rate, probably by the end of the year.  I definitely will not let them get over the 1,000 mg/L mark which is where it was when the other treatment of Pomalsyt( an oral chemotherapy) wasn’t working. But for now, I have a few more months of “freedom”.

I also had a brief dental appt to check on the cold sensitivity where she had done the crown. It seemed it was all ok and she recommended using Sensodyne toothpaste.

We’re heading to Costco so as to take advantage of the coupon sales. Dish soap, laundry soap, and a number of other things are on sale and I’d like to get them. It will probably end up another $500 shop but that will go on September’s food budget.  I’m planning on about $600-$700 including alcohol( wine for me, beer for B).  Plus it’s our birthday month so we may have a take out dinner or two.

I bought some books from Goodwill books online.

Of course, cookbooks!! The prices were good but not exceptional. the Pioneer woman one was $15 I think. Goldy’s was $7.00. Still, with the pet book store closed( where books are $1.00 each) there’s not a supply of cookbooks coming into my house which for me is cheap entertainment.

Last night I made a breakfast bake with hashbrowns, eggs, cheese, and some sausage on the meat side. It was very good and a good way to use up the eggs were getting from the chickies.

Tonight is pizza night. I might get a take and bake from Costco.

This weekend I have more tomatoes to process and I’m going to do a large pan of baked tofu as I need to use some up. Baked tofu is good cold or in sandwiches.

The days are really getting shorter and sunset now is about 7:40 and sunrise is 6:30am.  We’re still getting out to walk at 5:30 am but I think fairly soon we will bump it out to 5:45am.  This morning was busy down there with dog(jerk) walker getting there at 5:40am. We were almost done and he came blasting by and I yelled at him saying” On your left”. He does irritate me something wicked.

Well, I’d better get some things done so we can leave to get to Costco by

 9am when they open.

Friday round-up.

I’m really glad this week is over.

It’s been hot and that’s made it hard to be outside. I’ve been going out to the pool every day at 4pm so at least it’s a cool down to some degree.

My dentist’s appt went really well and they are taking every precaution so I felt safe. The crown was done in around 3 hours, start to finish.

My oncology appt also went fine except he was really late. He apologized as a family he had an appt with was having some issues. Nothing new, just wait till my numbers go up to 500. 😦  I sorta feel like a ticking bomb.  I was home by 12:15 so not too bad. Geez, people are driving CRAZY!!!

Tonight we’re ordering pizza out. It’s too hot to turn the oven on. So that will be a nice change.

I’ve done our budget for July and the only BIG expense will be the trees at @ $4,000. Geez, I really hope that’s it for a few years but probably not.

I put a yard sign up BLACK LIVES MATTER. I like it and it just shows some support. I would be out there protesting if I could. I did for VietNam but now I can’t risk getting COVID or bringing it back to others. So, just a small way of showing some support.

There’s a great news story trending about a young barista at Starbucks in Southern California who told a guest they had to wear a mask in the store. She went on a verbal rampage and then took his picture, posted it on Facebook while continuing to shame him. Tons of people came out in support of him and NOT the privileged white woman and then someone started a GO FUND ME tip jar. At last count, it’s up to $32,000. Wow, that is a really heartwarming story. That is some lucky kid.

B is still working on our daughters room windows and they really look nice. These new type windows have a UV tint which is amazing.  It definitely cuts down on the sun’s heat coming in. Plus he’s working on getting the ceiling fan up but that is requiring new wire so kinda a pain. But at least there will be some new wiring. When we had the guy do the wiring when we remodeled, he must have been on drugs and the wiring is screwy. Why he didn’t replace all the old wiring is unknown.

I probably won’t be going to the store till next week and haven’t decided where. I might just go to Safeway but I’ll need to write a list and see what I need.

Rainy Day

It was a rainy day and I had to drive to Sacramento for my oncology appt. The drive was slow but not too bad. My appt went well. I’ve had Dr. Laptalo as my medical oncologist since I was diagnosed in 2005. He was a fellow then and then later board certified. He’s a good person and I trust him. Again, it’s really just waiting till my numbers are higher to start anything. That’s ok. He did recommend I have the colonoscopy after the diverticulitis bout. So I will schedule that for January or even February. I had him look at my CT scan with contrast and he said there was nothing unusual. So that’s good.

Then I came up to Rocklin and went to Walmart to exchange the flannel shirt I had picked up by accident in XXL. That is way too big for B. Then home.

Tomorrow I have a gym day and then some errands. I need a candy thermometer to make the peanut brittle and I need to go to the bank.

I am feeling somewhat frustrated with the house and it starts to feel really small this time of year. It’s usually when I start looking at decluttering more or at least moving some things around so there is more space. Winter/rainy days do make things seem closed in. Well, that too will pass.

Dinner is veggies and one of the cheese fondues. It’s not the one I usually buy so I thought I try it tonight.

Saturday Stuff

B is still in S Cal, staying at the California Grand at Disney land for the natural foods convention, so We are holding down the fort. The weather is lovely so it makes it way easier than if it is cold and rainy. Today were suppose to hit 73 degrees. Yay, I’m all for nicer weather.

I went to the farmers market just now and it’s nice to get some very fresh stuff. It’s always more expensive ( I spent $25) for veggies but the quality is great. I was there and back in 40 minutes.  My only splurge was organic strawberries for $5.75. Pretty steep but they look lovely.

I might go out later to the thrift store as I’m not going to the gym today. I’ll do my work out tomorrow.  I like Sundays as there are fewer people. so I might wait and go then.

This week has more appts than I usually do. I have my labs on Monday, some library stuff Wednesday and then my doctor appt Thursday. Thursday also is the annual Friends of Library meeting at 1 pm. But since I’m in Sacramento till  12;30 or later, I’m probably not going to make it.

This coming week is suppose to be very nice with temperatures in the 70’s and high 60’s so I’m going to wash curtains and open all the windows one day to air everything out. I cleaned the sun room yesterday except for the bird cage. I’d like to get rid of the cockatiels but feel guilty. Do you think birds have feelings?? They were born when we had our huge aviary. At one time we had 80- finches, doves, budgy,  cockatiels. They would mate and these 2 we have left are the result of that. They’re not friendly per se but they do know us. Mostly, they’re  messy and I’d like to get rid of that.

Well, tonight we’re ordering a sandwich from our Holiday market. S and I  share one and it’s fun to do something different.

Updates ,Just Keep Walking Project(JKWP) and more

In the JKWP, we are at day 136 in the fourth year.  We walk every day in the rain(today), snow (hopefully not soon), and in the dark (today) and in the light (summer). Next week when we travel to Florida we will walk intentionally even if it’s not the very first thing. We need to leave for the airport quite early so our walk will be later. If you’re just starting out walking, I’d say the best thing is to lace up your shoes first thing and then go. That’s what I do. I get out of bed put on my sweats and lace up my North Face walking shoes. Then I ‘m ready to go. I go out early as it suits my personality. I’m now and have always been an early morning person. I’ve upped my distance too and that’s nice. Mostly since I’m off Dex. Dex just makes things harder with its ups and downs.  So get out there and walk.

Next update: my sister and her 3 daughters are safely back in Connecticut. It was a short visit but they had fun. Everyone avoided talk of politics and religion. I think no one wanted controversy. That’s all good.  Family is family and since we do have differences, it’s best to be tolerant. As an atheist, it would be easy to go on and on about things. But , we each have our own journey to take and that’s that.

Next…. today , finally we get to sign our refi.  We had to pay the annual house insurance and property tax since they were due within 60 days she said. So that was a hit. And we still need to pay a small OOP amount. Not happy about that but it’s a done deal and finally over for now.  My plan is to try and do another refi in2- 3 years and try and get the interest rate lower. But for now,it’s ok.

My doctor appointment went well and he said I didn’t need to see him for 2 months. Wow!!! But I still want labs every 4-5 weeks just to keep up. So I’m still hoping for 6 months but we’ll see. But anyway great for me.

Then we went to the brand new Sacramento Food Coop and wow, it is impressive.  I’m not a member but I just might become one since the bulk foods were amazing. So. fun!!! Plus, I’m trying to work towards zero waste ( in a small way) and this would be a great option for bulk every thing.

Then we went to J Jill in the Galleria. Now remember I hardly ever shop and really don’t ever go to the mall, but I needed something for the evening attire event in Florida. I found a nice black overshirt and I got a black dress off eBay. So I should be set, plus honestly, I don’t care and at night black is black and I’m sure no one is really going to be looking at me.

So, that’s it I think. It’s raining and suppose to get worse today. But we’re snug with a fire going. OMG, it might not be Friday night pizza.  I don’t have any mozzarella so it might be burgers as I got some yummy rolls at the coop yesterday.

one of the last things I collect and love.

New year !

Here we are in 2016. Its still cloudy and cold in Northern California and we’re due for more rain and snow Monday. Geez, I want to run away to ….the sun …anywhere… As I’ve said we do get cold weather this time of year but it doesn’t go on and on and on.. The poor geese in the park. All the grass is covered in frost when we walk, so we’ve been bringing some wild bird food for them. But we will stop as soon as it warms up as we don’t want them to be too dependent.

Elsewhere, we went to Ikea to get my son a  closet. Very nice but we forgot to check how many boxes it was suppose to be… so ,of course ,there we’re 3 and we came home with 2. So ,off my husband went this morning. It’s a 50 minute drive to west Sacramento. Ugh…. but I got a nice wooden spoon out of it and some wood salad tong things…ok, a few more things so that wasn’t a good no spend day. But tomorrow will be.

This week is my doctor appt and next Velcade shot. I had this last week off so the bruising in the shot areas look better. So far so good.

Next, today I did the Fafsa app for my son. He’s still at the junior college but I do it anyway as he gets the Board of Governors grant. I don’t think the two are related but I did it anyway. It only took forever to finally figure out I needed a new id. So 3 hours later.. I signed and its submitted. I think Zephyr will go not this fall, but 2017.He’d like to go either to San Francisco state or UCLA for film or video something. He’s a great student and seems to know his direction.
