Simple Sunday

The rain keeps coming but it looks like the sun will come out by Tuesday. Yeah!!! Fortunately, right now it’s raining but not a lot of wind. Almost no wind.

I went out to Auburn to get my Target order which was only Swiffer dusters( because I forgot them at Costco and now I had to pay Target prices for a few to get thru), and 2 Oxo that was on sale. Then I headed to the gym, used the treadmill, and did some weights. Their weight machines seem dated and old compared to the Roseville Rec center. Plus there weren’t a lot of choices. That’s ok, my primary reason to use this gym is the treadmill and a few weights to fill in between when I go down to Roseville.

B started the laundry and sheets so that’s done and he vacuumed.!!! Thank you!! He’s a keeper:) This week is the bathroom zone so I’ll get that done later or tomorrow. B gets his port out on Tuesday so my daughter is going to take the Santa Fe and drive him to UCD med center. It’s under anesthesia so he needs a driver. But that means I won’t go down to the pool Tuesday. I thought of going tomorrow but it’s MLK Jr day and I don’t want to be in traffic.

Last night I used up the last of the double-stuffed baked potatoes and tonight I plan on opening a jar of shelf-stable chicken pot filling. I made a pie crust so all I need to do is put it in the pan with the crust on top. I’m not sure what I’ll make for B maybe a different soup.

We’re watching a Britbox show, “Why didn’t they ask Evan?”It’s quite good and Hugh Laurie is in and I think he produced it.

All the Holiday stuff away and a photo of the dining area.

Here’s a photo of our ‘new ‘cat’ Chester that showed up out of nowhere. We don’t know where he came from but he’s very sweet and all the cats get along with him.

He does look like Gus so maybe the same father??? We’re pretty sure he’s fixed as he has the notch in his ear. But here he is laying on my lap. NONE of the other cats do this so it’s very sweet.

Simple Sunday

Our skies are still smokey and the sun is a red orb in the sky. It did clear up yesterday afternoon but it’s back in this morning. We had a good walk though although ‘he who shall not be named was there’. My God!, He is always there. I don’t think he’s taken a day off in the last year. Even I, OCD that I am, try and take a rest day.Oh well, he doesn’t bother us(right??after all that)… and does stay out of the way.

I went to Safeway to get the rest of the camping food for B and Sachi. One night spaghetti with garlic bread, the next night tofu burgers. It should be easy for them to handle. Then we went to Starbucks to get a pound of coffee ground for the press. It’s easier than trying to grind a large jars worth of coffee. We shared a tall Italian Roast coffee.

I finished the bathroom zone. I had bought new shower curtains last week so I put them up. With a claw foot tub, our shower needs 2 curtains to go around the ring at the top. I replace them about 3x a year due to mold issues. This time of year with everything so dry there isn’t much of a problem but in the winter it is more so. Still I cut the bottom off @3 X as well and wash in bleach.

I ordered the new Rosamunde Pilcher’s book.

She is one of my favorite authors. Will see if I like it. I have no qualms about returning a book if I don’t like it. I’m sure Amazon doesn’t want you doing this often but I have when I’m not happy with a book or a purchase.

This coming week will include swimming 2x, my labs on Friday , and taking Buggie in to check this wiring issue. The running lights on the left are not working and even after changing the fuses and bulbs it’s still not working. So we need to get it fixed as we drive out in the near dark at 5:45 am and the lights are not on. The brake lights work fine though. B needs to try and reschedule his IGIV for sooner as he is really feeling the fatigue. The anti-rejection drug he is on is causing his immunoglobulins to drop too low. Unfortunately, he will need to be on this drug a while so this is the treatment. At least it works. The cost is shocking at $41,000. Really?? I guess you’d just die if you didn’t have insurance.

I’m thinking seriously of painting our floors in the front room and bedroom white. I’ve always wanted white floors, very Scandish. But it would require some logistics as we would need to do half or a third at a time so we can access the bathroom and my daughter can get out of her room. Plus what I read is that it takes at least 2 coats maybe 3. We’ll see how it goes when the weather is cooler. It’s too hot now to do anything.

I think what I’ll do first is go to the Benjamin Moore paint store and find out about paints that can be put on a floor. Is it just regular paint and then a coat of varathane over it?? I’ll check.

The week ahead…

I missed writing Simple Sunday yesterday for no reason other than I didn’t get to it. We walked yesterday and it was nice. AH is still there, EVERY SINGLE DAY, but we avoid him and it’s fine. Today is our no walk day so I stayed in bed till 5:10am. ( really):(

Our weather is headed for terribly hot by Friday at 107 degrees. Geez I’m not sure our planet is going to survive global warming. The water situation in the southwest is dire and we are in a drought here for sure. All the reservoirs and lakes are way low, Folsom, Shasta, Tahoe all are very low. We are watering a lot for the gardens but I’m thinking by August I’m not sure that’s going to be reasonable and we probably should let some of the garden beds just go to seed. The 3 garden beds in the front are a wash as the gopher is eating everything so that’s just a waste. I’m planning on having my daughter dig up what’s there and put in some lavender plants and some more flowers.

This week is the bathroom zone and I may do some work in the sun room. I’ve had to move ALL my plants out of there because it is no the catio( kittio) playroom. they’ve knocked over and broken two pots already so now I have them in the front room and it starts to make me a bit claustrophobic. But it’s temporary till the kitties are older, I hope. We still haven’t gotten the voucher for mamakat so we may just have to pay for the spaying which is really expensive. But if we don’t do it soon, she will go into heat again and then everything’s complicated. So fingers crossed it’s there this week.

Last night’s dinner was cheese tortellini with pesto, watermelon and some left over potato salad. Tonight I’m planning on a quiche since I have some gruyere to use up. Then Tuesday is mexican and I might do a chile relleno bake with some pintos. I have some turkey burgers to use so I’ll do that Wednesday and a veggie burger for B. I’ll probably make some macaroni salad too.

My only appt this week is Velcade. Last Saturday was another rough day with feeling pretty lousy. Fortunately, it does pass, but still. Another Myeloma buddy died this past month. I was quite upset as I’ve been blogging buddies with her for about 8 years. Julie was funny, smart, a real warrior in the sense she never really had any treatment breaks like I have. She kept on. Then around 3 years ago her husband developed Alzheimer’s and died last year. So she had that to deal with as well. I will miss her.

I’m thinking of doing a Walmart pickup this week. I need some misc. stuff and Walmart besides Winco is the best place to go.

Well, I better go get the bathroom done and do some house tidying.

Simple Sunday

I overdid it yesterday doing things around the house and yard. It was good to be productive but this morning I feel some pulled muscles so I’ll back off today. I will get in the pool and move around a little and that should help.  This nothing really new. I often end up with aches and pains if I overdo it as my body isn’t used to extra activity.  So today can be a rest day.

This week is the bathroom zone and yesterday I cleaned some of the bins I use to keep things in. Today I’ll wipe the shelves.

It was really hot yesterday too and we actually ate dinner inside since it was @ 96 outside. My daughter made some BBQ chicken, corn and coleslaw. It was yummy.

The week ahead doesn’t look too busy. We see Dr. Abedi on Tuesday and B has his next Chimera test. So that’s exciting. ( I hope!! Then  Thursday my daughter will take him back down to Sacramento to get a boot for his foot.  The MRI, thank goodness, didn’t show any neurological stuff so it is a side effect of the Tacrolimus and he just has to buck up with it till that dose is reduced.

I’m going to the gym this morning to do some weights. Then I want to go over to Home Depot to get a few things.

Simple Sunday

We are out early for B to get platelets. But he isn’t done so I’m sitting at Starbucks waiting.  I’ve already been to the gym, Safeway, the bank, and the car wash so I guess I’ll just chill till he’s done.

We had our first BBQ last night. I did salmon I bought at Whole Foods last week. It was good.

Tomorrow I need to go to the Apple store as I ordered the wrong Ipad cover and I don’t want to send it back. r just go there and exchange. My daughter is going to come along and then we may go to a few stores. I may go back to Whole foods for a few items for this week.

We don’t celebrate Easter but do celebrate the pagan celebration of spring. Of course, Easter started as a pagan celebration and then somehow Christians turned it into palm Sunday and then Easter.  I love that Easter is still predicted by the first Sunday after the full moon in April. Of course, Passover is celebrated too.  And Of course, Jesus was a Jew, not a Christian as there was no such thing.  The first gospels weren’t even written for 70 years after Jesus’ death. Ahhh, real accurate I’m sure. Ask any 70 year old what happened all those years ago. Hmmmm.  thought so.

Oh well, enough of my Atheist cynicism.

Our week ahead looks pretty good. Regular labs for B and then I have the dentist on Tuesday.  That’ll be long and I’m not looking forward to my mouth being drilled and yanked for a few hours. But I have to do it while we have dental insurance.  I’m going to schedule a different appt for the Invisalign scan but hopefully this week. Then all I need to do is order my prescriptions so I have enough while the new insurance to is processed which I was told needs to be after Medicare approves me. I’m going double check to see if that’s accurate but I’m assuming the social security guy knew what he was talking about.

I’ve done a menu for the week and I don’t need a whole lot. Maybe some veggies which I could get at Whole foods tomorrow.

Also, the budget is done for the month.

We’re very proud of our son, Zephyr who will be graduating from Sac State in May. No student loan debt and it took incredible focus and fortitude to drive that 4 days a week. It’s an hour or more drive on way. We’re planning on giving him some money as a graduation gift.  Then he can buy what he wants.

For those following Flylady, we’re in the bathroom zone. I had my daughter use some leftover paint and redo the ceiling. One of the great things about loving a paint color is when you need to touch up it’s so easy.

Simple Sunday

It’s been an okay couple of days.

Not getting up to walk is definitely weird but I think till I see the podiatrist, smart thing to do.  I got a small foot brace from a friend that holds the foot but it’s not the boot that I’m hoping to get.  I walked around our driveway ring and there was slight pain but it does seem less. Who knows since this is what happened off and on for the last 4months. It would feel better one day and not so good the next. Now I know probably because I kept reinjuring the stress area.

Today, I’m going to the gym to do weights and that’s it. It’s hard not to jump on the treadmill. I don’t have any other chores so just that.

Happy Father’s Day to all you Dads and my husband, who was and is the best Dad ever.(Ha ha, next Sunday is Fathers Day,)

I’m making blueberry pancakes and scrambled eggs.

The bathroom zone is this week so I may do that later. Even though zone work is the whole week, I try and do it on Mondays. Sometimes Sunday.

I finally got the library copy of ‘Meet the Frugalwoods’ and most of the negative feedback was about her not really disclosing the high incomes they both had( him more than her, in the $200,000 range and more).  Also, she does quite often mention their ‘privileged’ life which is honest, just there’s not real transparency about them achieving financial independence not so much from penny-pinching but making huge amounts of money and saving as much as possible.  While it is commendable to be frugal and even extreme frugalness, but the fact remains about the income ratio to that.  It’s ironic and hypocritical on her blog to have reader cases reviewed which DO in Fact require the reader to fully disclose INCOME as well as EXPENSES.  When they do their own monthly accounting all it is their expenses. so while their expenses may be $4,000 a month their income is maybe $25,000. Or whatever 12 months divided by their annual income of over $300,000.

Anyway,  to each their own.

I went to Goodwill yesterday and picked up a few things. An OXO container for .69, a vintage Pyrex casserole dish for $4.00, a vintage milk glass vase that was $3.00 and a few pairs of jeans one being NYDJ which run $100 new. So that was a good score. Also 2 T-shirts but after trying them on at home they didn’t fit right for some reason, so I’ll give those back. Also, a sisal/grass rug for $12 that I put in the front room. It has a nice summery feel and was brand new.

Well, off to start those pancakes!!

Meanderings

Our weather continues to be quite cold. It’s sunny but once you step outside the wind is really cold. It looks like this all week. It makes it hard to go outside and do anything.

I had a good gym workout although my ankle is still bothering me some so i only did 15 minutes on the treadmill. I may go tomorrow and just do some weights.

Then I had some catch-up chores to do in town. The store, bank, another store and then home. I still need to hit Home Depot for a few misc. like a weird little bulb for a light.

We came home to house very tidy and the bathroom zone is done, so there’s not much in the cleaning dept but I will vacuum and dust tomorrow. Plus I need to get a few pots to repot some of my plant friends. Most are doing great where they are but one spider plant is trying to regroup in a new spot. Some plants are in good places now but come summer the sun comes into the house differently.  So those plants will need to be moved as it will be too sunny.

There are a few house plants I’d like to add but they’re more unusual so I may need to go to the nursery for them.

Having been a minimalist for 5 years now, I’m only recently adding plants to my decor. I think after we painted the whole house( except my daughter’s room) Simply White by Benjamin Moore, the green really makes the room pop.

I’d highly recommend house plants to your minimal decor for a number of reasons. The best is that they purify the air. Plus, they really add a wonderful dimension to a room.

Dinner is a mushroom frittata with goat cheese and roasted potatoes.

simple Sunday

Not too much going on today.

I’ll probably hit the gym for a small workout. I need to do a little laundry as well.

This week is the bathroom zone, pretty easy overall. I’ll wipe the shelves and wash the window and floor. since I do a swish and swipe most days, so it’s pretty clean.

I don’t really have any projects going on right now so I need to think about what I can do. It’s too cold to go out to the barn and do any decluttering so that will have to wait till spring.  That’s okay. I think it’ll be another layer dealt with but for now, it’s fairly organized.

Just a nice simple Sunday.

dinner is a freezer meal of meatloaf and mashed potatoes plus salad and a main dish for the vegetarian.

Simple Sunday

Our Sunday walk started out lovely. Quiet in the park ,nobody there but us until…..

Maybe I’m a magnet for weird things. So we’re walking on our second round near the tennis courts. We round the corner and a car pulls up to the far end of the parking lot. As we were walking the 3 ducks that are left ( from the Hobbles crowd) were right there by the path so we stopped and said Hi. So this guy opens his car door and out shoots a dog and it runs straight at the poor ducks. I turn around and yell, Put your dog on a leash, this is a leash law park.  The guy goes ballistic, yelling and screaming at me. That I should just leave the park, get out of here and on and on. It was really unnerving. So I say again, just put your dog on a leash. By this time the dog had run across the field somewhere. He continues to be crazy yelling. I say I’m going to call the sheriff and he goes ballistic. Go ahead, do that, here take a picture and on and on. So as we started down the path by the play structure, I call 911 and say this is not an emergency but I don’t have the sheriffs number for urgent call. So I tell her what is happening and she says she’ll send a sheriff. Well, we did one one round, walked as far away as we could from the guy who seemed to just be sitting in his car. He then walked over somewhere I presume to try and find his dog which was still off leash.  Geez, I was a little freaked out because I do walk alone often and in the dark sometimes.  I’m definitely bringing pepper spray tomorrow. But it was so over the top. I mean are people going crazy.  It was so belligerent and weird.

Anyway, we never saw the sheriff so…

Today is a gym day, and I got my oil changed.

I did the bathroom zone already( an advantage of having only one teeny tiny bathroom) and 2 loads of laundry( it’s sheet day).

This afternoon I’m going to put a chicken to roast. It’s warm out but it shouldn’t be too hot to use the oven.
