Just keep walking update and Yoga…

So we are the last 60 days of this years walking goal. June 1st will be 5 years of walking every.single.day!!

So if today is the 4th then we have 56 more days to the 5-year mark. Honestly, I love getting up and walking right away( well with 20 minutes or so). I think it’s what has kept us so healthy for this last 5 years.  Well, apart from me having cancer but really I’m very healthy otherwise. Being in remission this last 2 years has been nothing short of extraordinary.  I get labs in a few days so I’ll know next week what my numbers are.

I’ve been doing yoga again and it’s been a month. I think I can bend a little farther but mostly it feels good to stretch. It’s not very long maybe 13 minutes at the most. I’ll probably try and make it 15 minutes starting this week.

My daughter suggested watching the new Anne (with an E) Netflix series and it really quite good. The pilot was well done and I think the series will be fun. I always loved the books and the first Anne of Green Gables series I think was on PBS. That was a great series too.

I’m off to the dentist for a dental hygiene cleaning.  Then I may go into Goodwill.

Dinner is spaghetti and sauce with salad. water-2045469_1920

I just love this picture!!

Just Keep Walking update

Tomorrow the 30th marks 4 years and 6 months of walking every.single.day.

I went out at 5:45 am alone as B is in Chico working. The stars were lovely.

By the time 6:15 rolled around the sky was lightening up and it was pre-dawn.

I need new walking shoes but still haven’t ordered them. My North Face shoes are 2 years old in January. I was reading another blogger about the “Walking STore”, and how they take a computerized image of your feet and then recommend after that.  I may consider this as my orthotics in my shoes are 4 years old and I’m sure not doing anything.   The’Walking Store’ shoes are quite expensive but it’s probably worth it. Especially when you have foot problems like I do.

We’ll see.

Labs today and other musings

Today is cloudy and it was sprinkling this morning as we walked. At the end of this month, we will only have 2 months left till we hit year 5 of walking every day. I’m thinking going into year 5, I probably won’t be as OC about having to walk as I just need to keep walking.  I need to for a number of reasons. It feels good to get my blood circulating first thing in the morning but more important, I feel like arthritis is starting to impact me. I’m pretty stiff til I get going but even thru out the day I notice I’m stiffer getting up and moving. Not a good thing, and I may go see my PC doctor and ask if that’s what this is.

So today I went and got my blood tests. It’s been 6 weeks, so we’ll see hoe things are.  It’s hard to say in terms of how I feel because I generally feel excellent. My doctor was watching my hematocrit numbers as they were just slightly high. He wanted me to hydrate more but I pointed out that started after I was in cycle 2 of Velcade so???

I had a great introvert day.  I did have to call the insurance as they said I had a balance on my last labs.  But I’ve never had a co-pay on my labs. so 45 minutes later the nice lady did resolve it for me. Other than that it’s just me and the quiet today.  I did my FlyLady zone( the living room) and since there’s not a lot to do there it’s done.

I’m not sure what I’m making for dinner. I have left – over brown rice so maybe that. It’s not exactly what I feel like but then I don’t know what I feel like and that’s always the problem. So I’ll just wing it till it’s closer to dinner time. My daughter doesn’t get home till 7 pm so we’ll see. My husband is in San Diego working so…???

‘Frugalwoods’ uber frugal challenge

So if you like reading frugal living blogs,go to Frugalwoods and read about the challenge. I’m signed up and am ready to go. Except for a couple of GC for our UPS guy and our garbage guy, we’re done with christmas stuff.  The Frugal woods are quite an amazing couple who live extremely frugally and have reached financial freedom at a young age.

It’s never too late to do new things and I do love a challenge.

In decluttering, I’m starting another round for December.  I did a half a bin Life magazines, approximately  30. I did really good just saying it has to go. My plan is to end up with 2 bins of the most notable Life magazines, Kennedy assination, MLK, pearl harbor, .  There are some notables that sold for a lot of money, marilyn Monroe, Woodstock, etc. So eventually these are for my kids to look at and see history as it was.

I’m also going to pull out the Brio bin and put it on Craigs list. I’m going to start at $400. It’s probably over a $1000 worth of Brio. I’m going to do that today or when ever I can get someone to bring it in from the barn.

It’s too cold out there to do anything right now.

Updates:

  • the gym is going well. i’m still going very slowly but I like it and i think it will be a big plus when I get thru another month or so.
  • got rid of a few more cookbooks i dont really use.
  • did the kitchen zone yesterday
  • B put up clear insulating plastic on the window and it has made a big difference.

getting budget stuff ready for January.

  • Just keep walking project is almost at the 6month mark at the end of December
  • That’s walking everyday for 3 1/2 years.

Dinner is Taco Tuesday , I’m doing bowls with rice, beans, avacado, salsa etc.

This is it!!

Today marks the 3 years of the JUST KEEP WALKING PROJECT.  Wow, tomorrow we start year 4. I’m not really walking any faster or longer overall, just walking. Sunrise is @ 5:39 am so it’s pretty bright out at the park when we get there. We’re getting there @ 5:45 am.  I’d like to be out earlier but it’s ok, I don’t feel  too OC about it all. So hurray for us!!!

Our weather is quite hot and will get a little hotter by Friday…100 degrees.  B got the pool filled and its ready to go except the pump must have died and he just ordered a new one. We’ve had this Costco pool going on 8 years. It’s been a great investment. I don’t think it was over $5oo. They don’t sell them anymore. This is probably the last year of this pool but we will get some sort of replacement as we both use it all summer.

I moved my desk out of the bedroom as I wanted the space more. So, I put the Ikea cart in the extra room ( previously my daughter’s bedroom, but a weird space as it was a porch we closed in). I was a little surprised that I don’t have all that much office stuff to organize. But I’m going to buy a wall mounted file thing and some smallish bins for pens or whatever. But I hardly need the Ikea cart but will keep it there till I give it some time.Ikea cart  My minimalism is paying off with very reduced office stuff. I will give away or sell the other desk unless we can find another use for it.

So, today is tidy the house, one load of laundry, Target( for the bins) and that’s it. Maybe do some weeding but definitely  water garden stuff.

Tomorrow is my doctor appointment and Velcade.

JustKeepWalking Update

We are close!!!!   11 more days till we reach the 3-year mark of WALKING INTENTIONALLY EVERY SINGLE DAY!  That’s 1,095 days if my math is correct. Today was quite cool and windy with rain on the way. We walk in the rain and wind and snow(rarely). We are lucky to have a park with a walking trail 1/2 mile from our house. That probably makes a big difference. I think if I had to walk by the side of the road( at least around here with crazy drivers, I wouldn’t have lasted.  Also, for any of you thinking of starting a JKW project a word of advice.  Get up, put on your sweats and PUT ON YOUR WALKING SHOES!  I think that makes a huge difference psychologically. I wear New Balance Country Walkers. Very supportive and I have inserts.  I’m thinking of trying North faces walking /trail shoe but I’m usually reluctant to try something when I have something that’s working so well. Part of the reason I thought of North Face was, 3 years ago I bought my jacket that I wear every day walking. It’s not expensive $99, if I remember. But the zipper broke . I was gong to order a new one and then I thought about North Faces lifetime guarantee. So I e-chatted with the rep and he said send it in. I did and 2 weeks later my jacket was returned with a new zipper. I was very impressed and give a big shout out for North face. They didn’t even need the receipt which I would have long gotten rid of.

Also, just do what you can. With the steroids ,I’m on my muscle never really build ups since steroids reduce muscle mass. But Just think if I wasn’t walking, so I do what I can.

I’m looking forward to finishing the Velcade and going off Dex hopefully sometime in July. Of course, if my numbers are good. And of course, at some point ,I’ll be back on but in the interim it will great.

So, Lace up those walking shoes, and Just Keep Walking!!!

JKWP update

Well, we are at day 330. It’s exciting as we go thru these last days. Today I added I extra round. I’m still not trying to prove I can go 5 miles or 3 miles, just walk. One foot in front of the other.

in other news on the home front, we bought the Santa Fe to pull the tent trailer and for B to have a work car that’s AWD. It worked out pretty good although the payment will be higher. Hopefully his car reimbursement will cover it( it should). This maybe the last car we get with his company but we will have to see how it is in 3 years. But it is very nice. We still need the trailer hitch and roof rack put on. We added that to the loan. Image

The” just keep walking “project

imageThis was the park when I walked after the big freeze!

When I started walking, it really was, just walk. It didn’t matter if it was 5 minutes or 1 mile. The point was to walk every day.

Now I’m on day 218, and it’s exciting. Some days  I walk 2 miles some less, some a little more. I just listen to my body.

I invite everyone to join me in “the just keep walking project” for 2014. I started mid year, but the point is to just walk, just keep walking.

It’s a healthy way to feel good and possibly lose some weight.

Even with my health issues , I have found this has helped me considerably. My legs are stronger and my back is too. Because in myeloma, the bones can be affected, I take it seriously to get some resistance type activity, and walking is perfect. I can’t run, too dangerous for me, or take any physical risks, so walking is the best the I’ve found to help me stay on top of things, and it has helped me ,I think, be healthier.

Join me, it’s fun and always interesting. Join the ” just keep walking ” project!
