Simple Sunday and we got RAIN!!!!

We woke up to rain and more is forecast for today, tomorrow, and Tuesday. The Mosquito Fire is still going but probably this is the boost the firefighters need. Yay. We walked with umbrellas but it was only a drizzle by then.

I started some minestrone for dinner in the crockpot using the cranberry beans from Ranch Gordo. Plus lots of veggies, onions, garlic, tomato sauce, and water. I think I might make some cheese toast on the side. This week’s menu will probably include some chicken, tofu, rice, and maybe a pasta dish. I reordered from amazon the freezer containers ( which were definitely worth it) and so I want to do some lasagnas and cheese enchiladas. I’ve tried freezing the mac and cheese and it just doesn’t freeze well. ( my version). I think you need to use Velveeta or maybe evaporated milk. Homemade mac and cheese is really easy. There’s a blogger on Youtube that thinks Wincos mac and cheese is real ‘home’ cooking. I don’t think she’s ever made homemade, probably too much work.

My arm is still sore from the Omicron shot but no ‘real’ reaction. I kind of felt off but that’s about it.

Tomorrow, I plan on going to the gym although if it’s raining too hard I won’t. Roseville is usually milder than here so that’s positive.

This week is the bedroom zone and closet. I will move my canning jars out to the garden shed as I’m done for the season except for applesauce. I’m planning to over to Apple Hill near Placerville to get apples, probably 20lbs. I’d like to get some heirloom apples but I’m not sure that’s what they have. There is a farm over in Petaluma that has heirloom apples but that’s 2-3 hours over there. Then I would like to put up the winter curtains but then I thought maybe I’ll do a between season one in a light linen. I’ll check if Ikea has any.

I have my appt with Dr. Laptalo on Thursday which happens to be B’s birthday. Not sure what he wants foodwise but usually the birthday person chooses their favorite meal.

Well, that’s a wrap.

Simple Sunday

After a cloudy Saturday, today is bright and sunny. The rest of the week looks fabulous with temperatures in the 70s. I think I see BBQ this week.BTW, the series on Netflix, High on the Hog, how Black American cuisine changed America, and how we eat is truly phenomenal. So much history. If you have the chance watch it.

We had a nice walk this morning with no one around. We didn’t try to get there too early being Sunday I like to take my time.

Today is sheet day for us. We only have one set of sheets for our bed so we wash and put it back on. These linen sheets are about 4 years old and still wonderful. I’d definitely recommend linen sheets. I think these were only about $130 but lots of high-end sheets are way higher. IKEA has a nice set that we have out in Rubi.

I’m feeding my sourdough and think I’m going to do a nut one next. Walnuts, pepitas, and maybe sunflower if I get some unsalted ones. I’m averaging 2-3 loaves a week. One day to make the dough and then refrigerate overnight, then bake and enjoy for a few days. Then when that one is almost done I start the dough for the next one. Of course, this is now. Once summer hits I won’t be baking as it’s too hot to use the oven generally.

Tonight I plan on doing a stir fry with some leftover veggies. I need to get some tofu at the store though. This week is the bedroom zone and I finished that already.

Barclay has a busy appt week but I don’t so I’ll see what I get up to. I know doing some garden stuff and tidying up the garden shed. But I think I’ll plan a trip to the pet bookstore and maybe the library. Well, that’s a wrap up for today.

I thought you’d enjoy a picture of me after I got out of the hospital. This was dated March 26, so i’d been out of the hospital about a week. Heidi was with us for 2-3 weeks helping with everything. You can see my wig in my hand. My sweet boy was 10 and my daughter was 19 even though she looks younger.

Simple Sunday and my 15th SCT birthday!!

Yep, Tomorrow would have been day 0 of my stay at the BMT unit at Sutter Hospital in 2006.

I was in for 18 days ( I think) it may have been 17. The nurses and staff were amazing. They come in and do what needs to be done and then leave. Most days I just laid in bed but once a day I’d walk the hall with B just to move. Most of what I remember was it was raining outside a lot. I’d be awake at 3am and see sheets of rain going across the freeway. The reintroduction of Stem Cells is anti climatic. It’s a bag that’s feed into the IV and it’s done. The worst Chemo has already been done a few days before. After the Stem cells, it’s just hurry up and wait for your numbers to plunge to zero and then slowly your immune system starts to reboot. It’s about day 11-14 you start to see the change.

Well, I had 4 years of remission before I relapsed and went on Revlimid. That was in 2010. So I’m pretty lucky. Many of ‘old crowd’ of myelomers are gone and sadly so. I’m grateful everyday to be here to enjoy the life I have.

Simple Sunday news.

We had a lovely walk with NO one in the park but us and the geese. My feet still bother me but walking actually seems to help the neuropathy. Sunrise is so early that we are getting there at 6 but it’s already light. I’m thinking next week to try and back it up to 5:45 am but we’ll see. With daylight savings in march 6am will be 7am so definitely not walking that late.

I’m making a King Arthur batch of lemon ginger scones. They are baking.

I”m going to put a turkey breast in the crockpot for dinner. I’m hoping it comes out ok, if not I have tofu I will make anyway. My son isn’t crazy about turkey so the tofu will be an option.

We have a Home Depot order to pick up but my daughter and B will do that soon. We need some 3ft to put around the front area garden to keep Rosie the chicken out.

I am going to start the second coat of paint here in awhile.

This week I’m in the bedroom zone so the fresh paint on the door is a nice improvement. OOPs, looks like that was last week. this week is a split week of Living room and then March 1 entry ways!!!!

Simple Sunday

Another week ahead with 2 appointments.B has his BMB ( 6 months) on Monday to check how everything is. I’m pretty sure it’ll be good as nothing unusual has shown on any blood tests. Then Tuesday he has weekly labs. He’s driving himself to those. Then Wednesday I have my dental surgery to remove the root of the broken tooth. I’ll have propofol to be sedated.  I’m hoping the gap heals for Thanksgiving. I’m not doing an implant but may consider a bridge for that area.  I would consider not doing anything but there is the risk of an infection and that wouldn’t be good.

I guess we’ll be eating soup this week.

Still no rain in our forecast. By this time we usually have had several storms with rain. Everything is quite dry.

I’m in the bedroom zone this week. I did the windows and tidied the closet. I was going to declutter a vintage suitcase I have in a corner and discovered it had mold on the bottom. So I had to take it out and remove everything. I decluttered about 25% but some of the items are baby things and want to hold on to them a while longer. Not clothes, they are long gone but wooded toys and some Peter Rabbit plates( Beatrix Potter). So now I need to buy a bin for that stuff. Unless I can get them in the under the bed bin which I will try first.

Then after seeing that, I ‘ve decided to pull up the antique wool Karastan rug I have and donate that to Cancer Thrift.  I’ve had this rug since 1977 and bought it at the Salvation Army for $500.

BF1936E0-FA70-4E07-8641-ABF8015F9821.jpegIt’s a lovely rug in pastels but I think it’s time if it’s holding moisture on the floor causing mold. Our bedroom floor is cold in the winter partly due to there is no insulation under the house.  We had to remove all that when we had the rodent infestation about 3 years ago. So, I think, it’s time to do something else. My daughter’s tiny room has vinyl flooring from Home Depot and it’s really nice so I think that’s what we’ll do in there.

Our floors are wood(fir) but not in great shape so I don’t feel bad about covering them up. Plus it does make cleaning easier.

Today is a gym day( I think). Now with the rug fiasco, I may just stay home and deal with that.

Simple Sunday

Still raining and snowing. Well, it’s like slushy rain where we live but still, it’s very cold and I’m sure the snow is coming down in the Tahoe area. It’s like snowmageddon up there.  Many ‘stupid’ people yesterday clogged the freeway to try and get up to the snow and it was a mess. Pictures on the live cams showed cars and trucks just lined up for miles because it was so backed up. Eventually, they just closed the freeway.

Update: 6:30 am…. it’s light enough to see outside and it is very definitely snowing!!!!

IMG_1775.jpeg

I was going to go to the gym unless it totally clears up. We do have 4 wd but still, people don’t know how to drive in the snow so I think it’ll be a home day.

Last night I made a minestrone in the instant pot. I do have to say it was really delicious. I put it on soup for 30 and then after 10 minutes of natural release I vented it. Then I added some cheese tortellini and closed the lid again. I just kept it closed until we were ready for dinner. I would give it an A+.  I may be getting rid of my crockpot after I do beans which I haven’t done yet. But many vegans use the Instant pot specifically for the beans it can do in a short period.

Today I am roasting a chicken in my large cast iron pan.  I did the whole chicken last time in the IP but I think I prefer the oven. Plus it’s a great day to use the oven. I may even make some WW bread too.

This week for those who follow Flylady, it’s the bedroom zone.  I normally do sheets on Sunday but I think I’ll wait till tomorrow which is weirdly enough supposed to be sunny.

This week isn’t too busy. I have my labs tomorrow. B doesn’t have labs till Tuesday with infusion on Wednesday if needed. Probably platelets and I hope he can squeak by without needing a blood transfusion.  BTW, the transplant Dr. ruled out his older brother due to age, so it’ll only be his younger one who is 64. So that does lower the chance of the match but I’m not too worried as the National Donor base will then be checked.

If all goes to plan, the donor kit will be back in a week and then it’ll about 2-3 weeks till we know.  So that puts us the end of March. He will have finished cycle 4 and it’s possible he’d be ready to go in.  We’ll see.

Simple Sunday

The air is pretty much back to normal here and it’s been a lovely  fall day. The leaves are yellow, gold and brown with touch of red thrown in. It’s cold in the morning but then it’s nice in the afternoon. We are expecting rain on Wednesday so that’s great news.

Well Trump came to our area and visited Paradise. I guess the jerk kept saying Pleasure instead of Paradise till someone corrected him. Geez, please try and get it straight out of  respect for these people both the living and those who have perished.

Today was a gym day and it was quiet in there.

Tomorrow is my big day to go into court for my name change. I’m excited to get this ball going to get my certified BC and then passports. Getting thru NY’s application is probably going to be a PITA but I’ll do it come hell or high water.

This week is the bedroom zone and I’ll do that tomorrow in the am.

I’ve gotten everything for Thanksgiving and will do some prep Tomorrow or Tuesday. I need to make the brown rice for the nut loaf a day in advance as it needs to be cooked and cooled. The rest will just be Tuesday or Wednesday.

Tonight is a roast chicken with roast potatoes and broccoli. I’ll also do some tofu for the veg man !!

Simple Sunday

It looks to be a lovely day in Northern California.

Our yard looks amazing with roses and flowers all around. This is one of the prettiest springs I can remember. Of course, we’re only a month away from the start of summer.

Today is a gym day and then just doing whatever. I really enjoyed my meal prep yesterday and our dinner was delicious. We heated up the lentil salad which was an excellent recipe from David Lebowitz’s ‘My Paris Kitchen’, and then had some of the wild salmon.

I go get my labs this coming week. I think this is the longest I’ve gone, almost 8 weeks, so I’m a little anxious but, heck, it’ll be whatever it’ll be with worry or not.

I’m in the bedroom zone this upcoming week. Pretty easy since we don’t have much stuff in there. What’s in your bedroom??? Try and kept it simple; a bed, dresser, maybe a plant or two. I do have a nightstand that I have to have to hold my pills I take at night and a glass of water.

Dinner will be the chickpea curry with rice.

a few more pictures I took…

Simple Sunday

Today, I’m off the gym and then to Safeway( which is almost next door to the gym, to get olives from their olive bar, wine, cream and whatever else I need for Thanksgiving. I don’t want to have to go to the store till after Thanksgiving.

I’m in the bedroom zone with Flylady and I just washed the inside windows, tidied the Christmas packages in the corner, and I’ll work on the closet/pantry a little more.img_1086.jpg

This is the stained glass hanging in our bedroom window.

img_1085.jpgA plant in the corner on a bar stool I was going to donate and then decided to reuse it.

Having put the pantry stuff in the closet has been really great. If you live in a small house with no pantry or closets for that matter this is such a great idea. We really have only one closet in this house. In the other bedroom, we have an Ikea closet that is essentially a built-in now.

Dinner is those meatballs I made yesterday and marinara sauce with spaghetti.

Happy Father’s Day and a simple Sunday

Happy Fathers Day to my dear husband who was and is the best Dad ever. Since I did’nt have a Dad around growing up B is everything I would have wanted in a Dad.  Our son made waffles with Farmers Market strawberries, scrambled eggs and bacon and veggie sausage. Pretty darn good.

Today, I’m going to the gym with my daughter and then home and float in the pool. B’s fathers day present, and anniversary, and birthday and Christmas is a new Intex pool. The one we bought from Costco 8 years ago finally bit the dust. So hopefully we will get lots of years out of this one.

I’m in the bedroom zone this week, so I may tidy the closet(again), and then wash windows and that’s about it.

It is so freaking hot here, it’s hard to breathe. It’s suppose to be 109 in sacramento.  That is pretty darn hot. So we will be @ 103-4.

Tomorrow are my labs, and then a dentist(invisalgn) appt. Then Thursday is my oncologist appointment. We’ll see what the numbers say.

I have a load to go to Goodwill(small load) and I’m trying to get stuff out of the barn for my son to sell at the flea market. Hopefully he does this soon as I want it out of the way. There’s the 2 chairs and a bunch of other stuff.

Labs and the week ahead

Today I went to get my blood draw. This is month 6 of being off all drugs. I’m a little anxious but not alot. It is what it is, no matter what. I have been having my kappa light chains go up 1 point a month but sill in the normal range but if the trend continues then there is some activity. I should know by Thursday.

It is so cold here. 28 degrees this morning. I really dislike the cold. It’s going to get up to 51 degrees but that’s not really tropical , is it.?

Today is some small chores and the bedroom zone. One of the benefits of having decluttered and Kon Mari-ed is that it takes little time to do a clean. I change sheets once a week. We have 2 pairs of sheets. One goes on the bed the other in the wash. Then just dust well and tidy the closet. Usually I wash all the windows in whatever zone I’m in but right now we have a clear plastic over the windows to help insulate. They are double pane windows, but this is the north side of the house and is usually colder. Since I Kon Mari the under bed bins and book case there’s not much to do.

Dinner is pasta Monday, so I’m making an fettucine alfredo. The best recipe I’ve ever come across is from one of my favorite books’The Kitchen Counter cooking School’.  Basically, it’s heavy cream in a pan. Then you heat up gradually, like maybe 10 minutes. The cream thickens and when you use a spatula thru it , it leaves a a trail.( think of the parting sea of heavy cream) Then add the parmesan and freshly ground black pepper. So easy and amazing. I use to do a bechamel sauce but this is much better.

Plus a salad and a piece of grilled chicken if I’m feeling motivated.

Tomorrow I have my invisalgn appt and the gym.  Then Thursday , lunch with a friend and the gym.
