Simple Sunday

The heat wave continues but it is only 100 degrees or 99 depending on what time it is. We walked early , 5 am, and AH showed up which he hasn’t done before( he usually shows up at 5:30 am). We have been trying to avoid him and so going at 5am was working but I think he couldn’t stand the idea that we were there before him. Barclay did have to say this morning “move your dog over” as he walks in the middle of the path so his dog is on his left and right our way. h such a shame didn’t say anything but he did move the dog over when he went by the next time. It’s such a shame that this guy is like this as EVERYONE else is so nice and pleasant. Oh well, this too will pass. We’ve been walking there almost 10 years and lots of people have come and gone.

Right now I’m making some biscuits for dinner or lunch and the dough is chilling in the fridge. I’m also going to grate some zucchini and make fritters for dinner. I bought beets at the Farm stand too, so I might do borscht and serve cold with the biscuits.

This week we’re in the Living room and then the Entryway zones. I’ve already done the LR and just need to dust the ceiling fan. The entryways(on Thursday), I’ll tidy up the plants outside the door and sweep.

The kittens are growing and having fun running around. My office area is now the official catio. MamaKat is recuperating from being spayed and now she’s in there too. She’s actually done really well being inside except for the yowling at the kitties. We had to move all my houseplants from the sunroom after at least 3 clay pots were broken. Some were delegated to the covered shaded patio.

I’m working on a plan for when we can buy a used truck next year. I want to calculate our trade in with the Santa Fe and then how much are we willing to spend. A new truck is out of the picture because of the cost. So we’ll see.

Simple Sunday

A nice morning even though there is a little smoke lingering. It is cooler than it’s been. The week ahead looks to be in the low ’90’s so warm but not unusual for this time of year.

This week I have no appts so I may plan on doing some painting. The kitchen cabinets need a touch-up and I have the paint for that. I may plan to go down to Roseville to the Benjamin Moore store to get the white.  I’d like to get the front room painted and maybe the kitchen. Having the same color makes it easy to do and repainting is mostly a breeze. ( well, sort of, as I can’t do the ceilings but I can paint the walls.

This week Flylady has 2 zones. The living room and then the entryway. Yesterday, I wrangled the couch covers off and washed them. My daughter put most of it back on as my hands have trouble stretching the main cover. ( I guess an arthritic thing going on). The entryways need sweeping and a general tidy up.  So I’ll plan on that later in the week.

B took a huge load to the local garbage transfer station and that was great to get rid of stuff that was just hanging around like old fencing. I asked him to load the old van with the thrift store stuff and I can do that this week too. We have a digital piano that needs to go and it is too big to fit in my VW.

Here are the two ‘old’ ones celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Hard to believe it’s been 50 years. Lots of laughter, fun, some tears but not too many and lots of great adventures.  I guess getting married at 18 and 20 worked out for us but I’m guessing we are the exception.

Simple Sunday

A rainy evening with the wind. Plus, the temperatures have really dropped and we will need to start a fire in the woodstove.

Today, I’m doing the Living room zone and because October first is Tuesday another zone happens. That will be the entryway zone. I include our sunporch as that is the main door people see and use.  I brought in some of the geraniums and I think I will let them winter over in there. The sunporch is not heated but on sunny days it does warm up nicely.

I’m going to the gym later and then into Safeway for milk, cream, a whole chicken, and a few other things. My grocery bill has been low this week so I’m pleased. I made lentil soup from the new cookbook I splurged on for my birthday” Two Peas and their Pod”.

She doesn’t use a tomato base, but I always do. I think it adds more depth. I use the IP and it was delicious. This weeks menu includes the lentil soup, a homemade lasagna ( in the freezer), some sort of taco dinner, and maybe brinner with pancakes.  I’ve also been wanting spinach soup which is one of my favorite.

I used the “Two Peas” cookbook for a scone recipe and it was good but I made need to tweak it a little. I thought they were just a tad bit dense. I could have stirred them too much too as this will affect them. I’ll try again at some time.

Also, this week B has his appt with the transplant doctor who I assume is going to go over the BMB results and the chimera results. It all seemed good but we’ll see how he interprets it. Then B has labs and a port flush.

I’m planning on going into AAA this week and redo our house insurance that got canceled by AAA. They still offer it but with the new California Fair insurance. With all the wildfire claims, I think every insurance company is canceling their own policies and doing the rider with CFI.  Then I need to pay for B’s motorcycle registration too.

Beginning of the week.

I missed Simple Sunday but it was simple. I went to the gym and then picked a few groceries at Safeway which is in the same complex as the gym.

I came home and watered my plants and moved a spider plant to a ( I hope)better location.  a few of my plant friends

For dinner I had roasted some of the beets I bought at the FArmers Mrkt, so we had roasted beets on lettuce with a lovely Humbolt Fog chevre. I made an orange vinaigrette for the dressing. Then I had made some lovely garbanzo sunflower seed burgers. To make this very easy burger:

  • take a can of garbanzo beans and rinse and drain
  • mince up onion ( maybe a tablespoon or so)
  • sunflower seeds
  •  Put in a food processor and whiz
  • then add an egg and whiz again
  • salt  and pepper
  • take out and put in a bowl and then add bread crumbs so it’s a nice consistency to form burgers
  • fry in a pan with 1-2  tablespoon vegetable oil

The second night I made a tamari gravy to put over it. Quite yummy!!!

Today the zone is the living room. LAter this week the zone switches to the entryway and porches. That’s because Feb 1 is Thursday, so the zones work from the first of the month. Both zones are fairly easy for me as there’s not much in the way of clutter and the things are minimal. I am going to pull the couch covers off as I do every 3 months or so.

I need to go out to Grocery Outlet and get some milk and a few other things.

Dinner is some Dover sole and salad.
