Sunday Stuff

So, the latest news is my son isn’t going to be going to SFSU.  insert tears:( He decided that he doesn’t want to be burdened with the student loans in the amount of 25,000. We were going to be co signers on the one loan but then it turned out we were to be primary so we said we wouldn’t do that. But there are lots of private loans that he could take out and we could co -sign and then after a period of time, we would get removed from the loan. Then he found out at orientation that even though they said they accepted the 105 units from Sierra College, only 70 units would be applied to his degree. So essentially that means 2 years and that then is 2 years of student loans. So, I agree that is way too heavy a burden for a 25-year-old. ( when he finished). So at least for now, that’s the update. I wish we could just pay for it for him but we don’t have that kind of money and it’s too close to retirement to take out a loan for that.

It’s quite hot here again 101 today. I think this week it’s supposed to drop at least into the 90’s.

We went to drop off Good will stuff yesterday and because they were so full of stuff wouldn’t  take our items. What the heck.. they make so much money off of all this free stuff they’re given and they can’t figure out their intake system.  So, it’s in the back of my VW and I’ll try the big Goodwill today. I have a prescription to pick up and I need to get cat food.  WE did manage to drop a full box of VHS and hardback books that my son didn’t sell at the yard sale. That was at the pet bookstore.

We’ve had good success with organizing the barn shelves and it’s looking good. There’s still left over flea market stuff I need to process or my son does. But right now it’s all sitting in front of the barn and is a mess. But we have made progress.

My iPad just died this morning when I went to open it to write a review for NetGalley where I get free e books in exchange for reviews.  That’s where I have Bluefire downloaded so I can read the PDF versions of the books. So I opened my IPad and it blinked and lights went out.  It is 7 years old or maybe 8. It’s the second generation I pad my husband won in a raffle at work. They don’t do that anymore nor do they do the trips like the one he won when we went to Hawaii. So 7-8 years is pretty good but now I’ll have to figure something out. My kindle fire doesn’t have the blue fire so not sure what I’ll do.

Today is a gym day and dinner is a big chopped salad, grilled chicken, and grilled tofu. Oh, and I think I’ll make some couscous. Oh, and I have left over pizza dough so I’ll grill a pizza. I saw an interesting recipe from William Sonoma that was zucchini and pesto pizza.

On decluttering, my son is bringing the antique bin table up to his friend’s house and so now that’s gone too. Yeah, less stuff is more space.

57 degrees?

I went walking at 6am or a little after and it was 57 degrees out. What is up with that.? It’s breezy already but warm. Our yard looks like a brown desert. Maybe we should start watering.

I’m off to work this morning, I had a lot of stomach trouble yesterday, not sure why. It seems to come and go. I still need to find out if the doctors page he needs to fill in for the LLS is there or not. Yesterday, it wasn’t but they had the fax wrong. But this is my renewal for my grant so it’s quite important it get done.

I’m definitely frustrated with saving money and try to make head way on the student loans or our mortgage. The SL is all interest pretty much till it gets down to a certain dollar amount. Should I even try or work on the second? The second is a very low 1% interest but still could we get rid of it. I’m pretty frustrated with it all but will continue to just process what is the best course of action. Any ideas any one?

Just save more? Or try and tackle something. We actually don’t have a lot extra after what were paying but I’d still like to try.

Monday catch up

So I missed Carla’s halfdozendaily  Sunday night chit chat , but I’m

Reading, or have just finished, Jacque Pepins biography, very good and some great recipes. Also, Debbie Macomber’s new book, Starting Now, kinda sappy.

and a quick recapture of Jeanette Walls, The Glass Castle, depressing yet inspiring that she became a successful writer.

listening to my son complain that told him to fold laundry.

  1. We watched more Castle season 3
  2. Yesterday, I did some batch cooking from “Not your mothers freezer cooking, so I made chicken breast to use in some recipes, 12 baked stuffed potatoes, bread, and I think there was one other.
  3. It seemed a lot, I sold the tree fort, Waldorf toy, very nice.did a huge thrift store drop off, did all the zone work ,Flylady!
  4. This week, working my 3 shifts at the library, walking, and generally just life. Oh, it’s my daughter, Sachi’s birthday!
  5. As always , just being alive and having a very good quality of life.
  6. I don’t know, now that I’ve gone full with minimalism, none of the household coheres are overwhelming, and I do flylady’s zones so nothing really adds up.

so it should be a fun week.

Update, student loans figured out, payment will be $507. Seriously , do we look like we can afford that, but it’s the government, and like taxes, you find a wAy. Ugh…not too happy about it but well have the Prius paid off in 4 months, so then it’ll be better. I’m going to see how I can make an extra payment on the Prius to get done sooner.

Budget updates

It seems we are off budget, but we’ve had some I unexpected costs, primarily vet bills and a lot of special cat food for Tucker. That was $186 and $56. Plus out of our sinking funds, Costco membership, and AAA membership. So our one sinking fund is down below $1000. That’s part of my zero balance. Hopefully it will get replenished when B’s bonus comes in at the end of June. I’d really like to add at least another $1000.

Z will have books to buy in August for college. And his birthday is August so there’s always more expenses.

we have gotten a place to bring the tent trailer in Tahoe in June. Our favorite place Nevada beach is totally booked solid. I just do t think of it soon enough and then there gone. I’ll keep checking for cancelations which does happen.

I wish the font would stay and not click off.  So the budget will be a little tight for the first of June . Most of our big bills, mortgage ,car payments etc are due then. But we only have a handful of Prius payments left which is a good thing because the #%^**** student loans will kick in. I’m still waiting to see the final result with mine being in a total and permanent discharge. It’ll be just B’s but we don’t know what yet.
