It’s the end of October. Wow.. I’m sure November is going to go by quickly and then it’s the Christmas season. I didn’t really hit my Santa fund goal of $1000 but close enough. This is going to a minimalist Christmas for sure. There are no big purchases just stuff we need really. Costco has a Cuisinart food processor on sale for $30 off so I’m going to do that for me. My son, I’m getting Bose headphones. After flying, I’d say one of the things that made it tolerable was using headphones. His are not noise canceling but they did cut the sound by 50%. So these Bose are noise cancelling. My husband can borrow them when he flys next which will be to Southern Cal in December. Other than that a few journals, pens, and an Easton press book for each.
It was interesting to go thru the bedroom while painting and there was zero that I wanted to get rid of. That doesn’t include the closet which now is holding stuff till I finish the painting.
last night I made breaded tofu and chicken from a recipe in one of my favorite books ever The Kitchen counter cookbook. It’s baked and the tofu came out as good as southern fried tofu. Try it.
Tonight I’m going to do a curry with tofu ,potatoes, carrots and whatever else jumps in the pot.
I didn’t get to see the first one go but I did video the second, but WordPress doesn’t let me put the video on for some reason.
It was pretty impressive going down. They used lots of ropes to guide it and then their large truck to pull the tree. both down on the ground but not bucked up, so hubby has a lot of work ahead of him. He has a fairly new chainsaw, but I think I see a bigger one in his future. Let’s hope we don’t need another tree down for a while although I think we’d better start a tree fund.
Rainy here today.
Went to Costco, then to our coffee lunch, then home.
I bought paint for the bedroom and will start tomorrow. It’s so nice to do normal things and feel normal. Yeah!!!
Well, in cancer world , my absolute neutrophil count or ANC, has tanked to 667. Geez, if only it was 666. Then I could say it’s the Devils fault. Oh well, so, he said low but not too too low. ( low normal is 1500), so low. All my other blood work look great. Geez, do I really have cancer?? I just have to avoid people and not get sick if possible.
So, it’s just a waiting game to see if it’s worth it. My Spep test and free light chains won’t be in till Monday. So that’s the answer. If Pomalyst 4 mg worked and brought my monoclonial protein down then I’m on board for low ANC, but if not then Baby it’s time to move on to other things.
Up would be Krypolis a 2 day a week infusion. AHHH , that means sacramento 2 days a week . For 3 weeks, 12 days or 2 weeks off. I guess it’s back to feeling like a cancer patient. When you take a pill like I have for many years, it’s easy to just waltz in to the cancer center. No infusion room… It’s kinda weird but you feel like you’re a little out of the zone. Of course that’s not true, but that’s how I felt. So this will be different.
In other boring news, it’s a weird yellow sky outside due to a fire and really hot. One more day of 100 plus then a cool down!
The room my son left to go the studio is painted a pretty pale green and looks nice. My daughter will use this as her office for graduate studies . The studio on the other hand is a mess, but I don’t have to see it. The whole , I mean, tiny house , has been a mess for a week. My nerves are shot looking at stacks of things. So, by this weekend hopefully it’ll be back to some sense of normal.
Today is day 107 walking . Pretty good. I’d really like to add an extra .5 mile but with rev/dex it’s aliitle hard to do . But overall it’s great.
we had an estimate on one of our more dangerous trees and the bid is $1075, plus the crane fee. I think it’s very fair as this includes chipping and clean up. So sometime in October it will get done. Hurray. Maybe next year we can budget the really big tree.
B is off the New Mexico for the week tomorrow , and Tuesday starts my 5 days working. I’m just going to glide thru and then rest when I come home. It should be fine.
We’ve been watching season 5 of doc Martin , it’s so great to see that scenery in northern England. It’s a great series if your looking for something new. Most libraries probably have it.
I just started reading Elizabeth Berg’s new book, OMG, it is also great. She’s a very good writer who really explores how most of us feel at some time or another and weaves it into a story.
B has just about wrapped painting all the outside buildings and trim. A very big job!
tonight is roast turkey breast, and baked potatoes,I had frozen. If your looking for A great freezer idea, double stuffed potatoes are terrific. I cut the potatoes in half , then it’s more like a side dish. I’ll steam some broccoli on the side.
I’m finally coming out of the dex haze, hurray….
I’ve been busy with all kinds if things since last week especially as the rev/dex wore off. This is my week off till probably Thursday. That’s the earliest I can get delivery as you have to sign for the revlimid. So, I’ve painted kitchen cabinets, worked on organizing pots and pans. Also, did another sweep thru the pantry.
On the low spend September, it’s not been to good. I’m doing great with food/non food but house painting and house miscellaneous is still adding up. Two trips to Home Depot , and another $75 apprx. Then some more paint for the aviary, and so it goes. I guess I’ll be happy if we can at least cut the food/ non food some.
I read “My Life in France” ,by Julia Child. It was really pretty fascinating. Now I’m reading some little murder mystery paper back, can’t even think of the title.
This week I work 1 extra day,but next week I’ll e filling for my co worker who is getting surgery. I’m a little concerned especially being on revlimid. I’m telling myself, just pace yourself.
Oh, the exciting news was yesterday was my 100 th day walking! Now I’m going for the next 30 days. I havent really lost any weight but I’m walking and that’s what matters.
On a sadder note, a myeloma blogger on the myeloma beacon, isn’t doing well and is expected to die in the next few days. It’s always a somber reminder that this is a terminal disease. She lives in Idaho, and has a wonderful dog named Kemmer. He’s a beautiful golden retriever. She also has an incredibly support sister, Jani, who has been there for her the whole way. She’s tried every combination of drugs, and now nothing is working. I’ll miss her posts.
Well, unfortunately we’re not off to a great start. I’m finishing up some trim on the house. And then I have to go in to target for a few things. Then to Home Depot for concrete paint. Theses have already been budgeted, so maybe I can count It in sinking funds instead of today.
Menu for the week
Sunday: chile rellenos
Monday: burgers on the BBQ
tuesday : pasta something
Wednesday: chicken , zucchini fritters
Thursday : black beans in the crock pot
Saturday: soup and a salad
Update on my Rev/ dex,
im almost done with my first cycle. It’s gone very well. Dex is dex, what can you do.
this will be my week off. That’s always nice. Won’t know my m- protein till next week.
Well well, for starters, have B finish painting. We’re going on day 3 tomorrow. I finished work at 2 and dashed down to the paint store for 2 more gallons before they closed at 3pm. Plus they are closed tomorrow, so I need it to be done! It looks really great. Not sure about trim, but we are thinking about it.
So my L 1 is better, not all the way, but better. It takes a while for the inflammation to go down . Can’t really tell what starts it. It hasn’t bothered me in 3 months. Go figure.
walked this morning. Still smokey from our California fires. Next week starts week 13. Yeah !
So, goals for the week:
1. Finish painting . Put stuff back.
2. Declutter pantry
4. Menus for the week
5. Handle dex ,ha, ha,ha!
6. Tally budget numbers for August
7. Decide on a trim color
8. Do budget for September , including propane and firewood.
9. Order XL twin mattress for Z
10. Walk, walk, walk.
