Simple Sunday

A nice morning walk and we were there by ourselves for the first two rounds. Then the lady who does the exercise group(3 in total) came and walked but we didn’t pass her as she walked in the same direction. She’s nice and we don’t mind her at all.

Then I did the bathroom zone in about 15 minutes. I wiped the shelves, did the mirrors and window, did the tub with Bar Keepers, toilet( which I do almost everyday anyway) and then the floor. B did the fan grate as it’s too hard for me to reach and get down.

He went out early with our daughter to get the rest of the fence wood. He said it was almost all gone so it was good they got it today. Sachi has been the primary fence builder and she is a great help.

It’s kind of a cloudy day and I feel unsettled with the political stuff going on. It just feels unfinished with trump. Maybe next week will start the impeachment which I feel is necessary ( or at least something is) to show him he can’t do this stuff without consequence. I can’t even imagine how terrifying that must have been for lawmakers plus it is the cornerstone of democracy.

Last night I made a lovely split pea soup. I didn’t take a picture but it was quite good. I made it in the crockpot instead of my Staub because I didn’t want to have to keep watching it. At the end before eating, I squeezed some lemon juice on the individual bowls and it really ‘livened’ it up.

Tonight, I plan on cooking roasted brussel sprouts and baked sweet potatoes and some sort of protein. I don’t have any tofu so maybe a beyond burger? I have some chicken for the carnivores which I will bake as well. I’ve been feeling like millet patties( the Ananda cookbook), so I may do that later in the week.

I’d highly recommend the cookbook “Midnight Chicken” . It’s much more than a cookbook as it starts out with her talking about her attempted suicide and then how cooking ‘saved ‘ her. It helped her out of a depression. Clinical depression is not something I’ve experienced but cooking is definitely therapy for me. She has lots of stories in each section. Worth supporting her by buying the book. I first saw it on one of my favorite bloggers in southern UK Tales from a Happy House. Her photos are stunning and I love reading about life in a different part of the world. So a big shout out to her as this was one of her Christmas presents and when I saw it , I just loved the title.

Simple Sunday

So far the no-spend month is going fine. I’ve been to the store a few times but nothing extra. I need to go to Costco this week for TP and some fruit and greens for the Vitamix but that’s all(I think).  I’d like to hold off as much as possible but I’ll be down in Roseville on Wednesday for a Dexa scan. So, that maybe when I go.

Things have been rainy and windy here. It looks like the next 10 days are rained filled. I walked this morning and it was quite lovely and it only started sprinkling when I left.

I made a yummy split pea and ham soup last night. I didn’t make a vegetarian one as B isn’t eating much. Once again, I made him some scrambled eggs.  I don’t make Split pea often and this one turned out quite delicious. There’s some to freeze and maybe lunch today.

Tonight I’m making chicken parmesan and some pasta. No salad as I bought a clamshell pack at Grocery Outlet and it was all funky so I gave it to the chickens.

This week is the kitchen zone. So I’ll start that today. Plus it is sheet day. We only have one set of sheets so I wash and dry them and put them back on the bed on Sundays. I am going to get some new sheets but just not sure when. I was waiting for Target to put the linen/cotton blend on sale but so far haven’t seen it.

This week is full of appts which I do not like. But they are necessary and B starts his next round of chemo on Thursday so that means out every.single.day.  I’m sure my daughter and son will help with the driving when they can.

Oh geez, I forgot to update about my damn birth certificate. They returned it (after 6 weeks) REJECTED because the second page of the decree was not included. The clerk had told me, it wasn’t generally ever asked for. Plus they wanted our original certified marriage license WTF I don’t know.  This has been one of the biggest BS things I have ever been thru. So on a whim, I drove down to Roseville to the justice center and expected to wait hours till I could get to the recorders window. Much to my surprise, I sat down after taking the ticket, and I was called in about 2 minutes. I told the clerk what I needed and she said sure. She said it’s rare anyone cares about the second page. So I got what I needed, came home went to the post office to get Priority envelopes (again) and loaded it up and sent it off. I would hope this does it but I’ll keep you updated(probably in another 6 weeks???) What a PITA…..

Well, off to the kitchen zone…

Wednesday catch up!

It’s mid week, and I’m a little off my game. Haven’t blogged in a few days,, so here’s some catch up. Walking is going ok. We are on day 252. Still only doing 2 miles but I think when the weather is warmer I’ll want to do more. This morning it was 28* ,thats cold. We are also finally in for rain over the next week. We do need it but it changes the morning routine.

Work was ok yesterday, I still have a bit of a sinus thing going on so not feeling 100%. I had put on a nice split pea soup for dinner in the crock pot. Then my daughter used her hair dryer and blew the circuit so when I got home from work the split pea soup in the crock pot was uncooked since it turned off. Fortunately, split pea only takes an hour on the stove ,so in to a pot it went. Then my son and his new girl friend call and see if they can eat with us… Uhh, ok I guess, it’s a good thing I put that soup on the stove.

I’m off to the drop stuff off at the thrift store and go to staples, and the the grocery store for a few things. I’m going to try and keep food budget at or under $500. So I only want to buy essentials. I put Santa $ away from this check and our 0 savings(which is for sinking funds). I also need to call propane and that’s going to be a hit. Also, our taxes are going to be a hit but we expected that with the stock sale last year. Somehow it’s all gone but that’s life here. It’s always something.

I also, was reading Joshua Becketts new book on clutter free kids( not exact title.), but realized my next phase of minimalism is to work on the having only one item of something. I’ve decluttered most everything in the house, but my 2 adult children’s rooms(that’s their domain ), but I still feel there’s too much. Maybe getting rid of duplicates will help, or some furniture. We don’t have a lot if furniture but maybe there’s something I can look at differently.ImageThis  part of our front room , notice the new grateful dead albums recently framed.

This week in the Flylady zone, I did the kitchen. Always a big job and I broke down and bought her calendar , which I think is the best for writing on. I had bought one at staples with coupons but the dates were just not bold enough. So I’m happy which the Flylady one.
