Simple Sunday

The smoke from the fire has mostly moved out and the air quality is better. There’s a slight breeze which may not be good later in the day as it warms up.

I’ve been to the gym and am now home thinking about what next to do. Here’s the zucchini bread.

It’s a really good recipe and it did puff up. I thought it was way to little batter in the pans but it was fine. I will make another batch this week as I have more zucchini coming in. I may go get some mini loaf pans.

It had a great sourdough flavor. I have another batch in the fridge that I’ll bake up this week as well.

I’m in the kitchen zone this week so I may start that today and get the cabinets windexed.

I’m cooking chicken tiki marsala in the crockpot and then later I will do some tofu in a pan. I’m planning on cooking some organic long grain white rice with it.

We went for a lovely walk in the park this morning. I sure do miss my daily walks but soon enoughI’ll get back to a more regular schedule.

Tomorrow I’m excited to go pick up my flat of blackberries from a local farm. I’m planning to make jam on Tuesday.

 

 

A little trip to South Lake Tahoe

I decided to go with B up to South Lake while he worked at Grass Roots Community store.

The official summer season start s July 4 so this was the calm before the storm. But it was still quite busy.  The roads weren’t backed up yet but the hotel we stay at (Lakeland) was booked solid.  Plus we went out for a glass of wine and the place was packed.  But the weather was spectacular and Lake Tahoe is the fullest I think I ever remember it being. It’s just in the summer there is way too many people and everything is congested.  On the main boulevard, it can take an hour to get from the Nevada border to the Y which is where Hwy 50 comes in.IMG_1066

We drove home the Emerald Bay side and that’s always lovely.

With me not being able to do any walking it was tough to just sit around.  But until I get an ‘official’ prognosis of my stress fracture and what to do about it, I don’t want to walk unnecessarily.  Really tough for me:(

It was a nice mini get away.

Upset!!!

I am beyond upset actually.

I did go see the PA and had an x-ray of my left foot. It is a F##king stress fracture and I am not to walk on it till I get a boot or something. I can’t even see the podiatrist till next week.  It’s supposed to take 6- 8 weeks to heal.  I’m hoping sooner. The funny thing is it would seem to get better one day and then hurt the next. But that maybe as the PA said, I just wasn’t letting the bone heal.

My foot pain started sometime around the first of the year as I have a few notations in my bullet journal about my ankle bothering me. then it seems it would feel ok. So I’m gathering the stress fracture occurred sometime then but initially, stress fractures cannot hurt and then proceed to hurt more. Which is what happened.

I don’t even know how to process this. Getting up and walking is a huge part of my life.

WEll, I’ll adjust in a few days and hopefully, I can get into this doctor next week.

I’ll be back in a bit once I emotionally and mentally adjust.

June must be my month of bad medical news as it was June 15, 2005 when the call came in that I had multiple myeloma.  Geesh… what a f##king bummer. Well, thankfully this is not cancer of another sort. But life sure throws some curve balls that totally take you by surprise.

Just Keep Walking is still on, just modified for a while.

We got back from our mini camping trip and the weather turned hot. We’re working on getting a new window and window cooler for the Studio(where our son sleeps and does school work),as it gets hotter than hell in there. The window just came into Home Depot so I’ll go pick it up this morning.

We bought the cooler the other day so B just needs to pop in the new window and then add the cooler. We have 3 in the house and they do work great and don’t add too much to the electric bill.

Today I’m off to see the PA about my foot problems. I googled it and it could be a stress fracture or some tendonitis. hmmm, not happy about this as it completely affects how fast I can walk and even just walking is a challenge on the first round.

We’ll see what he says. I saw this guy for the physical we needed for health insurance and I like his approach.

Since our doctor retired we don’t have a PCP, so I guess he’ll do.

My sister finished her chemo and her MRI and CT scan looked good. She probably still needs to do the radiation as Small cell carcinoma is very aggressive.  But I’m glad she’s got this time of remission. My brother will be flying back to Canton, Ct next week. I’m still not sure when I’ll go. Maybe the fall?

Other than that, not much new here.

Just a few thoughts…

The Just Keep Walking project is winding down. May 31 st will mark the 5 year anniversary of WALKING EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!  That’s 1825 days. So, of course, I will keep walking with my husband B, but I may not mention it much. It seems 5 years is a good point to wrap it up. I still need to walk every day as I have been rarely sick and I think moving first thing in the morning ( ok, after 1 cup of coffee) has been so healthy for me.

My daughters birthday is May 29 and we got her Audible for a year. She loves listening to books and such while working in the garden. So a perfect idea, actually, it was her idea:)

B and Zephyr should be home late from Las Vegas. I guess the Elton John concert was great and then I saw he was at the Royal Wedding today. He must have jet lag:)

No new projects yet. I’ve looked around the house and there’s not much that needs doing by me. There are a few maintenance things that need to be done but that’s B’s job as I cant do them. ( like putting up another rail in the bathroom). So I guess that’s all good, although I do like a project.

This morning I meal prepped a number of meals for the week.

  • garbanzo curry with peas, this will go over brown rice
  • baked tofu to add to meals
  • French lentil salad with carrots and herbs
  • pasta salad with sundried tomatoes,herbs,kalamata olives and goat cheese.

I might make some salmon too but not right now.

I’m going to go to the gym and then straight home to finish washing the dog beds. and I might do a quick vacuum.

20th of December

A lovely walk this morning but later than usual. We went out at 6:30 which is really late for us, but it was lovely with just enough light to see the path without the flashlight. It rained last night and things were wet but it wasn’t all that cold.

I feel better today so I’m hoping I feel good enough to go to the gym tomorrow. I’m still coughing and my back muscles are sore from coughing but hopefully, it’s working its way out.

Since I’m home again today, I will focus on tidying up the Hanukkah stuff and other things lying around that other people, honestly, don’t see. I’ve already cleaned out the refrigerator as the turkey breast I had in there leaked as someone didn’t put it in another plastic bag. Oh well, it needed to be cleaned out anyway.

The minimalist game has slowed down since I got this cold but I’m planning on doing a few things today. Does throwing away food in the fridge count?  Just being funny. 🙂

Dinner is turkey, aritchokes, grilled tofu, and maybe potatoes.

 

13th of December

I love this quote and that it’s by Einstein.

I actually decluttered a few things that just don’t have a home (ie, a toothbrush thing that came with the sonic care). I haven’t  used in in year so I put it in the thrift store box. There were a few other things too, like 2 small snow globes that really don’t have a place for.

I walked alone as B is on the north coast. Then I sliced cheese and prepped sliced meat for the FOAL luncheon.

Then I started laundry and made polenta. I didn’t go to the gym yesterday so I went today and just did a 30-minute workout.

I’m heading out to the luncheon soon.

I received a pre-release e-book of ‘ The Minimalist Kitchen’ and it is absolutely fantastic. I love it. I would highly recommend buying this book when it comes out it in March.

I still need to get a gift card for my brother at Tractor Supply this week. Other than that Christmas is going to very simple and minimalistic which I am thrilled about.
