Thankful Thursday

Happy First day of Spring!!

I’m very thankful that B’s CT scan has been moved up to Monday. Really I wish it were yesterday but I’ll take it. I am preparing for the worst that there’s cancer in the liver and that’s causing his ALP to be rising. It’s hard to figure out why his ultrasound showed ‘unremarkable’ and here we are 3 weeks later. I don’t get it but I am getting ready for ‘bad news’.

I’m grateful for a lovely misty morning to walk and it was very pleasant.

I’m thankful for a nice swim yesterday and the fact that the pool wasn’t too busy. I had my own lane for half my swim so that was nice.

Today is a home day and I don’t have a lot on my list. I want to steam-mop the floors and tidy the wine box pantry. If you haven’t followed my blog, I use Far Niente wine boxes under my stainless steel island to keep my canned goods. These days the four I have are maybe half full. I just don’t keep that much since the end of the pandemic. I bought these off of eBay a long time ago when things like that were reasonable. The 3 under the counter have the tops which is a big plus. One I have doesn’t have a lid and I keep that under a different cabinet.

I’m thankful for some pretty Eucalyptus branches from Trader Joe’s. They are probably my favorite. I love the soft green color.

Simple Sunday

A nice walk this morning with the moon shining through the clouds.

Today, I plan to go to the Auburn gym and do some weights. I went to the pool yesterday and was very lucky to get half a lane before the pool was overrun with college swim teams. I got my swim in and left but man, it was nutso.

I need to do up my menu plan using pantry items. So far for this week, I have baked ravioli( using leftover Costco ravioli and Rao’s sauce.) for tonight. I also have salad stuff to use. The rest I’ll write up later after I check the freezer/fridge.

Today, I need to dust again. With our woodstove going almost all the time, dust is a big issue. Plus, I need to water my plants.

I think I’ll end the blog here as there’s not much else new. Oh, we did add more days at the hotel when my son and I will go down. The one person from the Facebook group said her husband was in for 11 days and that’s considered very short. So that’s going to add up quickly but I feel like I want to be on the safe side with a room. If after we’re there it’s going to be longer then I could add more days. Right now we have Sunday through Friday. That Monday would be B’s 8th day so I really don’t think he’d be released. So one more thing to be stressed about.

Thankful Thursday

Our storm yesterday wasn’t too bad. So grateful there weren’t super high winds. Some of the pictures from the valley looked like the winds were crazy high. Right now, it’s not even raining.

I’m grateful B’s ultrasound came back good but what is going on is still a mystery. Hopefully, he’ll get some answer from the doctor today.

I’m very thankful to have a few very nice slow days at home. I’ve been pottering about. I moved some dishes from one shelf to another and gathered the cat cups and bowls together. ( these are people dishes, not for the cats!).

I’m thankful for those people getting out and protesting at Tesla lots and protesting at elected officials’ offices. In the early 70’s we protested, as did hundreds of thousands, the Vietnam War. I think it did change the course of the war. I was saddened that Mayor Bowser of DC though felt pressure to remove the Black Lives Matter Art on the street. We will not forget what happened to George Flyod and countless other black men.

Here’s my latest East Fork bowl too. They are so beautiful. If you’re in the market for any dishware checkout East Fork.

All in all just thankful for another day.

Looks like the rain just started up again

Midweek Musings

So 2 appt’s done and 2 more to go. I really hate having so many appts all in one week. But it should be over soon.

I got my labs done yesterday and then went to the gym and library. It felt good to do my weights. Today I’m going to the pool as it’s my only chance this week.

We did get the pizza at Round Table the other night. My daughter paid for it and she had a deal for one of them. B has something going on with his stomach?? so he didn’t eat any.

I did get pretty upset at him and yelled he needed to call the doctor. Well, he got an appt but it didn’t seem to be conclusive as to why he’s having some pain. Geez, let’s hope it’s not anything bad. I mean it’s only been a few weeks since his CT scan and the laparoscopy so I can’t figure out what it might be. Hopefully, he’ll just feel better because it’s a bummer.

It’s going to be raining for the next few days. It sounds like a good soup day. This weekend is the end of DLS so we’ll be springing forward. What a PITA. It takes me about a week to adjust. At least it’ll be light later. I prefer the light in the morning.

We watched the Conclave the other night and would recommend it. It’s not fast moving but it is so well done. With the pope ready to die, it seems a timely movie.

Then last night we watched the new Beverly Hills Cop movie. It was fun and it’s fun to see how everyone is so much older( like all of us).

Simple Sunday

A very cold morning. The park was all frosty. We did our usual loop which is about a 1.5. That’s what I aim for and then at the gym, I add on another .5 to 1 mile.

I’m heading into the gym this morning and then straight home. I don’t need to get anything. I have salad stuff B got at the store yesterday and leftover quiche too.

We leave early Tuesday morning and hopefully will between rush hours in the morning. Last time going down was fairly easy so I’m guessing Tuesday morning will be about the same.

I’ve finished the kitchen zone except for the floor. I asked my daughter to do that for me. Next, I’ll do the bathroom and bedroom zones. Just a quick dust and tidy.

I finished the taxes and submitted them. BTW, I checked out the IRS free e-file and it was not very user-friendly so I went back to Turbo Tax which is extremely user-friendly and just prompts you through.

Well, I’m glad this finally happening even if we don’t know the next step at least we know this one.

Menu Monday on Tuesday

I had to leave early yesterday(7:15) to get my labs, so I didn’t get to this. Then, I headed down to the pool and had a good swim. After that, I had to do a return at the Galleria Mall, so that took some time. All in all, after I got home, I was still dealing with changing my dental appt to a morning. I think I have everything squared away. Then B got an appt for the CT scan Dr. Lee wants in Sacramento, so he had to leave right after I got home. So I was pretty fried by the afternoon.

Last night, I just did a brinner of waffles, scrambled eggs, and veggie sausage. I had put on pinquitos in the crock pot but they weren’t quite done by dinner. We’ll have them tonight.

Tuesday: Pinquitos with cornbread

Wednesday: protein of some sort, probably chicken/tofu with baked potatoes from the freezer.

Thursday: I think I’ll make a homemade mac and cheese. I have a salad pack to use up.

Friday: Pizza of some sort. We haven’t had takeout in like forever so maybe that.

Saturday: some kind of soup

Sunday: Salmon from Alaskian Wildfish Co. with quinoa and?

My meals are not set, and I often change the day of things to fit what we feel like. But like Flylady, it’s good to have a basic outline of what to eat or do.

It’s still raining a LOT!! But tomorrow looks like a break. We need it. I might go to the gym /library, but I feel like it might be nice to stay home if the weather is nice.

I have a few things to tidy up, but the house is in good shape overall. The kitchen could use some tidying up. I went through the fridge and repackaged some stuff for the freezer(cheese) and threw away a few things. I might go do a little more of that.

The news is so depressing. I mean, RFK for health and human services when he’s against vaccines? These Republicans are spineless jerks. Just wait till there’s a full pandemic of bird flu, then what? Will he tell us all to inject bleach?? good grief, charlie brown.

that’s it for me today. Oh, I just finished 2 books. One is the classic Robin Hood that I have in Easton Press.

And then the new Evanovich, which is a real hoot!!

Mid Week

It’s been a lot of driving back and forth to infusion and there’s still more this week. Yesterday, I dropped B off at 10 and picked him up at 2:45. Tomorrow he needs to be there at 11am so I plan on staying down there and doing a few things. Depending on the timing, I will hit up the old Costco( as it’s closest) and I think maybe the library. Tomorrow is platelets so they go faster than blood transfusions. This week is all about appts so I’m not even thinking about the gym or the pool. Next week, I can pick up the rhythm again.

This is his last chemo as far as we know and I’m so over it all. Next week he has a video visit with the UCD doctor and that should give us a good idea of the next steps. Cancer has a way of shifting priorities. There’s not much you can do but go with the flow of it.

Today, I have my doctor appt in Sacramento. After that, I need to pick up a prescription and maybe go to the bank. I need the insurance printout but I’ll see how I feel after getting back to town.

last night we had the black bean soup and it came out good. I never follow a recipe with it just black beans in the crockpot and chili powder, cumin, garlic, and paprika. I also made turkey chili and there’s plenty left over to have tonight or freeze. Of course, B doesn’t eat meat so it’ll just be me tonight as our daughter works late at the library.

I’ve been working on organizing my cash envelope binders and have one just for savings challenges. The challenges are fun and usually, I only do ones with $1 or $5 bills. I’m saving up for an LV GM agenda preloved. I think this is what I want to use as my daily book. Once I get it, I can get some inserts and use them to write my lists and plans. Right now I’m using a really nice Leuchtturm 1917 my son gave me for my birthday. The paper quality is really nice. I use a CrossFountain pen and it doesn’t bleed through. The LV GM is the largest agenda and will make it easier to write in. Well, that’s a ways off yet but maybe by February/March.

From Bad to Worse!

Geez, can we get a break??

After Sunday, which took most of the day( my poor daughter sitting down at the clinic), they got home around 3:30. It was just one bag of platelets. So then even with that his nose bleeding got worse and worse. Some doctor called at 7:30 and said, you need more , your numbers just went to 25. Not good enough and hemoglobin down to 7.6. so either ER or if the clinic can take him. So why didn’t they figure that out to begin with and give him the 2 bags?? It’s ridiculous.

So he had very bad night which means I had a very bad night and ended up on the couch trying to sleep. He called right away in the morning and was able to get a 9:30 appt. It was unclear if they could do both blood and platelets. What a complete joke. Why are they not being proactive in this matter? I mean he’s down there on Sunday and has to turn around and GO BACK the next.

Anyway, being Veterans Day, traffic was light and he got there at 9:30. I left to come home. It was ALL day. My son went and got him at 4:30. Since it was so late he decided to spend the night and go to work from here.

So today is Tuesday, I have my labs and then I’m coming back home. I just can’t take going out again. AND especially since tomorrow, he has a physical appt back down at clinic with the doctor. I am going to be blunt about no chemo next week. He needs at least another week to recover. Hopefully, my labs are ok at least for now with all this stress. They went up last time so is that a trend or just another anomaly?

Besides that, it rained so hard yesterday coming out of Sacramento I almost pulled off the freeway to wait it out but figured I could get ahead of it in the foothills which I did. By the time I got to Newcastle, it was only a drizzle. Geez, what a stress factor.

Well, hopefully, today is a better day and there are no surprises. 🙂

Thankful Thursday( late) and Frugal Friday

Yesterday was busy so I didn’t get anything written. I had to be down at infusion by 8:30am so needed to leave early. I did get my walk in first thing and that was nice. I’m thankful, I am still walking even though B isn’t. With his numbers so down he doesn’t have the energy.:(

I’m thankful infusion went ok. They are great nurses for sure. I noticed though there weren’t curtains to pull around the chairs which is odd for infusion rooms. All the UCD infusion chairs have some kind of curtain for privacy.

After infusion, I went to the library to pick up my holds. I am thankful for the Martha Riley Library as it is a wonderful community space.

I didn’t really have any enthusiasm to go to the gym. After that, I went back down to Winco. I finally saw where the new Trader Joe’s is and funny, it’s right down from Winco. But you can’t see it right off as the gas station blocks the view. It looks to be a bigger one than the Rocklin one so I’ll check it out next time I swim.

I’m thankful this fall has been colorful with leaves turning all shades of yellows, golds and some reds. Other than that, this week is really a downer if I’m honest.

Frugal-wise, it was ok. I didn’t really do a whole lot. All of the first-of-the-month bills are paid. There’s a little left over to get through till the end of the month. There’s Thanksgiving and so I’ll need a few more groceries for that. I ordered the Diestal turkey roast to be delivered on Nov 21. They are not cheap, but local and I’ve had good luck cooking them.

I spent $125 at Winco, $25 was on wine, so $100 was on food. I also filled the car up at Costco gas so that is a big $$ savings.

Today is a Dex day so it’s home for me. Barclay’s platelets have tanked so he’s going in for more labs this morning and hopefully scheduled for infusion. this is day 10. so we’re starting to hit the real downtime (days 10-15). He’s much better this cycle but still, there’s the platelets dropping. His hemoglobin is doing ok, but I think this is the period too where that started dropping. Fingers crossed it doesn’t.

My son is coming up today to work on a few things. If B needs an infusion tomorrow he could take him and my daughter go get him. We need the labs to come in till we know and the doctor says his platelets need to be under 50 for transfusion. I guess what she was saying is this is UCD policy. What a crock of shit. If it’s only going to keep going down and that means an ER visit, he knows he’s at 90 so why wait??? Doesn’t make any sense.

I’m still committed to not watching the news, it’s kind of a relief really. I know how I am with stuff that upsets me so much, so I feel this is a good thing for me right now. For how long? Who knows??

Thankful Thursday

First, the biggest is B’s numbers went up enough that he didn’t need the transfusion. Today is his labs so we should know if they increased. The doctor will reduce the chemo by 25%. Also, we’ll know what to look for this time. Dr. Lee from Stanford doesn’t want to go down too much more otherwise the chemo is really for naught. So he thinks he’s still a good candidate for the Hipec so that’s what matters here.

I’m thankful to still keep walking at 6am even though it is very star-filled. I like it early but I have to admit I am feeling somewhat less motivated. Maybe that’s an age thing too or just that I need to find my why again. Right now I’ll just stick to what I’m doing which is 5 days a week sometimes 4( when I’m feeling lazy:))

I’m certainly thankful my daughter can take her Dad for labs etc. This morning I’m meeting up with the library friends so I can’t do it till later and it’s better to get them done early so the results come in.

I’m thankful to be able to swim at the pool even though it’s been hit or miss. With everything going on if I get one swim a week in that’s good. Yesterday, made it twice this week( hurray) but the pool was crazy busy. I had to wait 2o minutes for a lane and then because the pool closes at 9:25, I barely got a swim in. There seemed to be a lot of people there I hadn’t seen before. It’s odd how it is that sometimes it empties out at 8:30 and other times people were NOT giving up their lanes even though they had been swimming over an hour. I wonder if Roseville P and R could put an hour limit on lap time. ?? I doubt it but it does seem unfair when some people are swimming an hour and a half when there’s 3 people waiting. And that’s 2 to a lane. I won’t do circle swimming( that’s where there is another person who follows you and you swim in a circle. Last time I got kicked in the head. Oh well, it is what it is.

I’m grateful for our beautiful fall weather. We’re having a wood fire in the mornings to take the chill off the house. It’s very cozy.

I’m thankful we’re near the end of the whole campaigning thing. I’d just like to be over. It’s going to be very tense that Nov 5 and beyond whatever happens. I voted early and just got the notice my vote was counted!

I’m grateful for the Roseville Public Library. It’s a welcoming place and I love getting my books there.
