Hurray, they are in the normal range and even went down ever so slightly.
Kappa light chains at 18.9 mg/L
Lambda at 13.6mg/L
the ratio is actually what is important. So I’m still doing great there.
One weird number I’ve never even looked at (liver function ALT) went up out of normal by a few points. I’m guessing since I started the Keto diet that I’m eating a lot of full-fat food. I’ve felt great on this keto but I haven’t really lost the weight that people rave about. Maybe I’ve lost 3 pounds but nothing remarkable. I do know my body does like homeostasis and my weight doesn’t just drop away. Still, after this amount of time, I’ll just back off some.
I’m not sure if I’m in full ketosis and that might be the reason. Anyway, I’ll probably back off the full-fat stuff for a while but keep on low carb and proteins which I’ve enjoyed. I’ve given it a good trial period but think it’s time to just eat my ‘normal’ stuff.
I definitely haven’t missed sugar at all but then again I’m not so much as a ‘sweet’ person but rather ‘savory’. Not having beans and rice has been easy too. I just substitute lettuce stuff. Well, I’ll see how that ALT number is on my next labs. Obviously, something was going on as it’s always been in the low 20’s range. Even when I looked back over the last year so the Keto must have had an impact.
Today is a gym day for me.
B has his pulmonary test scheduled and my daughter will take him to Roseville.
Yesterdays BMB went exceptionally well. The NP did the procedure and I could tell she was going to do a good job. Of course, no matter what they still hurt like hell.
The book giveaway is still happening with the brand new book “lightly” by Francine Jay. she is one of the pioneers of the minimalist movement in the last 10 years or so.
Well, it is now that I’ m back from my monthly Costco haul.
I put everything away and put stuff in the freezer. We should be good to go for the rest to the month.
Then I moved into the kitchen zone and got that done except for the floor which I asked my daughter to do.
So, I ‘ve got the rest of the day to be outside or read or whatever.
Tomorrow B has his bone marrow biopsy with the new transplant doctor. He’ll need to take a sedative so he’ll be drowsy probably. Then Tuesday he has another test and then Thursday. My daughter will alternate with me since she’s still off from work. That helps a great deal.
Tonight we’re having artichokes( I bought at Costco) and some fish/tofu. Nothing too fancy.
It’s really lovely out almost 70 degrees.
Don’t forget to comment in my previous blog if you’re interested in the ‘Lightly” book.
I’m giving away my copy of “lightly How to live a simple, serene, stress-free life” by Francine Jay.
It’s a great little book with lots of ideas for minimizing, simplicity, decluttering and more.
To enter, Please leave a comment on why you’d like to have it.
I will use a random number generator to pick a winner and then will post that and the winner can email me there address.
The giveaway will be open until next Sunday, April 14th.
Well, definitely not frugal after the Ikea trip and ordering my new glasses yesterday.
The eye doctor is a really nice man and told me my macular pucker looks stable. He also said because of the diagnosis(?) not sure of its term, under Medicare it’ll be covered. So that was a relief. The glasses I have now are called Lindberg, made in Denmark and I love them. They are expensive but since these lasted me 5 years and really I could have just kept them as my prescription hasn’t really changed. But I felt before jumping off the boat into Medicare, I better do all this stuff I can now.
Speaking of which, I was going to go into their office this morning but I’ve just had it with this week so I’ll wait till next. When I called to make the appointment, the person said: “oh, you can’t make appts for that, you just have to go in and take a number”. Great. More waiting. So that’ll be next week.
So, today is a gym day. And then to the store for a few items, cat food, half and half, and some deli stuff.
I talked with the UHC transplant person and unfortunately, the brothers travel and lodging is not covered so that was kinda a bummer and the billing is probably when he comes out of the hospital, so we know that’s going to be June. So we will have the full deductible which ( based on what they said before)is $6,000. So we’ll just ask for payments to be made or use as much as the GFM that will be left after paying for the brother’s flights and lodging. I’m seriously, not going to worry about it. I’m sure there will be enough stress with this whole thing to go around.
Dinner is an order out pizza. Round Table gourmet veggie, I think.
All in all, it’s been a good week. Next week is insanely busy with appts. Another biopsy, pulmonary stress test, and who know what else. But one foot in front of the other and JUST KEEP WALKING!!!
I need to return the shelf we bought for the bathroom. since we bought the shelf unit we don’t need the shelf where the other one was. So that’s the main reason. But then we decided to get a small metal cabinet for cat litter and dog food. Right now, the cat litter bag is on the floor and I really don’t like looking at it. This is a nice cabinet that’s only $40. Ikea has this new thing called Click and Collect where you order and pay online and then pick up at the local Ikea. We’re lucky to have one only 50 minutes away. their free coffee is always yummy. And the breakfasts are $1.99.
We’re not getting the breakfast today, but we might get the free coffee.
Then tomorrow I have the eye doctor appt. Since this whole thing with Medicare is coming up, I need to get glasses while I’m still covered with B’s UHC. It completely sucks that vision and dental plans are so poorly addressed in Medicare. I mean, REALLY??? If you’re older don’t you need that more??? I asked our dentist when I switch to medicare what is different? And the receptionist says,” Oh we don’t take Medicare. ” So I’ve been a patient with Pier 210 Dental in Auburn, Ca for almost 40 years and now I can’t get my dental needs there. WTF????
I’m off to get my labs this morning. Even though I don’t see my oncologist till the end of the month, I wanted to get my labs at 6 weeks to see where they are or if they’ve changed.
Then I’m going to go pay our property taxes(bi-annually), and I have to go pay the car tags on the Santa Fe.
Then home to do Monday chores. I need to wash mirrors and the window in the entryways and the sun porch. But the sun porch is ALL windows so maybe not all today.
On a super positive note, I called the American Cancer Society about there partnership with hotels for our stay after B is released from the hospital and it all sounds great. He’s in the system and when he goes in then call and set up the tentative date for the hotel. Since it will be at a reduced price, even if we are a few days different, I’ll go and check in just to keep the reservation. So very good news there.
So yesterday, inspired by “The Home Edit”. I pulled everything out of the fridge. Then I cleaned all the shelves with the help of my daughter. I had gone to Target and got some plastic bins for specific things to group. I’m pleased with it all.
It looks all fresh and bright.
Today I might work on the kitchen pantry which is the restaurant shelving. It seems I haven’t found the best way to work things there. But I think I’ll take everything out and see where I go with it..
Dinner is unknown…….
