Friday things

I met up with two friends from the old FOA library for coffee yesterday. One of the women just lost her husband to Myeloma so she’s adjusting her life. He was just recently diagnosed but wasn’t in good health and I think his body just couldn’t take it. Another friend just had her husband diagnosed with Myeloma too. How weird is that? He’ll be starting Revlimid, dex, and Darzalex fastpro. I think he should do fine but he’s also in his late 70’s so there’s that.

I finished the pressure canned beans and so now I have 3 garbanzos and 3 black beans ready to go. Beans are really easy it’s just the time involved while the pressure canner is going.

I’m not going to the gym today but I might go tomorrow. It just depends on how I feel. Today I’ll do the PT exercises and then just potter around. It feels like I have lots of areas in the house that need some attention. The kitchen pantry shelves need to be sorted and a place for the chip bags. It’s interesting how these little things just are minor irritations and I tend to just look past them until they really bug me and then I do something.

Today is National Pizza Day so either we’ll get a pizza or I’ll make one. It’s a cloudy day with some sunshine coming through. Next week we’re tentatively going to Napa. Hopefully, it’ll be at least sunny. I have 2 weeks till my next Velcade so we could go the following week if that looks better.

Frugal-wise, we haven’t done any lunch dates or coffee for that matter. ( except my coffee with friends). If we do pizza tonight that’ll be takeout. B did go to Costco and got coffee, eggs, etc. I think we’ve been able to keep our grocery bill down because of TJ’s, Costco, and Winco. I haven’t shopped at Safeway in like forever. I have shopped at Holiday simply because it is 2 minutes away and if I need something then the cost of gas has to be figured in too.

I paid for Turbo Tax too. I probably could have found a free platform I like how turbo tax asks the right questions and then it’s all done. It’s worth the $89 for federal taxes.

Simple Sunday

A nice walk this morning with fairly warm temperatures. My knee has flared up again so I took it slow. Somehow I think the flare ups are corresponding to after I take dex for some reason as this happened a while back too. It seems I’m just about done with it and then there’s a back step and it bothers me again. I’ve never had a knee injury so maybe it will come and go for a while yet. The cortisone shot did really help and I suppose if in 2 more months I need another one I’ll go back to the doctor.

Yesterday B peeled apples and I sliced them and canned them for apple pie filling. A fairly easy process. This morning I pulled a package of puff pastry out of the freezer to make apple turnovers. For dinner, I made turkey wild rice soup. There’s enough for lunch today. For dinner tonight…??? not sure but probably a freezer meal of some sort.

I did weights this morning. Tomorrow I have my labs and plan to go down to Roseville afterwards. We’ll see. I know I want to swim on Tuesday because I have the dentist on Wednesday.

On Thursday, some of the women from the old FOL are getting together for coffee so I’ll join them. They are always fun to get together with. One of the women’s husband was diagnosed this summer with myeloma. He’s in his 80’s and it’s been rough. Because of other issues, he’s in an assisted living home so that makes it even harder to keep track of how he’s doing.

Well, I’m off to finish the apple turnovers.

Five on Friday

Let’s see, my labs came in but I had to call the nurse to get the results. My doctor is on call for other doctors this week so he is slammed. My CBC is all the same and normal, Kappa light chains went up to 15.0, Lambda was the same at 11.1, the ratio went up just slightly to 1.30 ( from 1.27).  So not bad but I’d rather the ratio be a little lower. But still all in the normal range.  June marks 2 years of being off all chemo.  What a lovely time it has been and I am grateful every day.

We zipped down to Costco at 9am to get a few things. Mostly coffee. Last week I had to go buy a pound at Starbucks and that was a rude awakening. So off we went. We filled up the Santa Fe, and then got thru Costco fairly quickly. I didn’t need a whole lot so it went quick. We also paid our membership which was due June 1st.

Tonight is a pizza night and I gave my son cash to get a Round Table. I had a coupon for a speciality pizza for $19.99 and we love their gourmet veggie. So a good deal.

We were going to go to the nursery and get some pots for me to re-pot some of my house plant friends but it’s raining so we nixed that. I guess we saved money by not going but I’ll still need to get some at Home Depot in the next week or so.

Yesterday I went out to the barn and declutter more magazines, some kitchen things I had put in a box for my son when he was going to live at SFSU( which he didn’t do), and other misc. It’s the start of a small thrift store run.

I worked on the budget and June looks okay. Still working on finishing the CC that we put Z’s tuition on. I’m okay with that. I’d like to target end of July to have it done.

I think that’s all I can think of.

We did feel bad for all the campers heading up to Tahoe for Memorial day weekend. It was pouring down rain and I’m sure it’s worse up there.

6th of December

Grateful for a cup of good coffee.

The back story is we had to fast this morning to get the labs done for the insurance. Okay, I can do this but we get to the lab at 8:25 and supposedly we needed some sort of paperwork that B did not download.   So, I was not a happy fasting camper. But a quick stop to Starbucks and all was right with the world. But we’ll have to do it later anyway.

Then we went to the bank to use the coin machine. This is a sealed pot challenge originally started by the blogger’s new life in the country.

We ended up with $88.78. Pretty good for a year. we still haven’t decided what we will use it on. Maybe part of our travel money.

I’m doing the minimalist game this month. So day 1 is 1 thing, day 2 is 2 things, etc. Not sure I can come up with that amount but I started with the Christmas ornaments I don’t want.  Plus I do need to go thru some old files so that will add some items.

Dinner is a roast chicken and farmers market chard, I’ll saute it with some garlic.

Here’s another amazing picture by my lovely daughter.

An IKEA trip

Fun!

We went to Ikea to get a new cover for the one Poang chair we have. We decided to declutter the 2 mission style chairs and get another Poang. They are made of a birch wood so much lighter and they are a smaller footprint.

Free coffee!

If you get their family card, you can get their free coffee with organic half and half. We had a cup but no breakfast as we had already eaten at home.

Hygge candles!

If you’re like me I burn candles year round and Ikea candles smell good and are inexpensive and don’t have nasty stuff in them.  The orange is my favorite.

So for now, the pile for my son’s yard sale is growing with 2 Mission style chairs added.

I’m making enchiladas in the Lodge tonight for Taco Tuesday.
