Simple Sunday

It’s a beautiful sunny day with the temperature in the mid 60’s. Really lovely. But snow and rain are coming back in from Tuesday till forever it seems. Oh well.  We need the rain, I guess.

Today was a gym day. And being Daylight savings, it was kinda empty. Some guy was waiting for the yoga class that (he didn’t know) had started an hour earlier.  I walked at 6:55 to 7:30am. No one was there, which was nice. And tomorrow I’ll leave 5 minutes earlier.  I’ll keep backing it up 5 minutes a day till I get back to 6:30.  But I’d like it to be at least first light.

Then I went to Target to get a spring smelling candle and quite a few dollars later left.

Target is always a magnet for me. I don’t buy stuff I don’t need per se, it’s just I see stuff I was needing to get and then throw it the cart. For instance, I needed some decaf Peets coffee to make in my thrift store find Moka pot. Then I needed some hash browns for a menu item. Then cat food. So you see how it adds up. So, generally, it’s better for me to stay out of stores, which I do mostly. I don’t shop department stores or the like.

Yesterday I was reading the blog ‘reading my tea leaves’, and Erin was mentioning in her tiny bathroom how she doesn’t have any clutter in that room, as the room is too small. And visually it makes it crowded.  I thought a lot about that. And I completely understand as our one bathroom is 6 x6.  I try and keep shampoos and body wash in a white plastic container that you don’t see. But there’s still some stuff that is out like our towels are just folded on a small dresser. So, I guess there’s always room for improvement.

Dinner is a mushroom gruyere frittata and a green salad.

Friday stuff

Well, I’m not sure where the week went but it’s Friday.

I did a proper house tidying session including vacuuming. I start getting a little crazy when I see things piling up or not put away.  So It took maybe an hour to sort it out.

Then I went to Safeway to get some food to prep some meals. I mostly wanted lots of veggies to go with the homemade hummus and for salads. So that was a success.

My new Cuisinart food processor showed up so I made the hummus and it’s a dream.

To make;

  • I use a can of organic garbanzos
  • juice of a lemon
  • 2 tablespoons or a glug of olive oil
  • a garlic clove
  • a couple of tablespoons of tahini
  • Just whiz together till creamy

My old food processor was I think over 25 years old and was kind an off-brand Oster maybe. So I plan on trying slicing some veggies and grating too.  It says you can make nut butter but I’ll have to see how that goes. It’s not a Vitamix but after thinking it over I decided to wait on that. We don’t drink smoothies and having jumped on the kale bandwagon.  I paid $65.00 for this from Amazon and it was normally $185.00. So that’s a pretty good deal, I think.  I make a lot of salsas too so you need a food processor for that.

No big frugal things this week, the budget is set for the month with a bi-annual bill coming for Allstate. Then I need to have my VW smogged and get the registration paid. All our registrations went up by about $30, I ‘m guessing it’s the California auto tax or something. It was quite noticeable. My VW is a 2000 and usually, the registration is just over $100, but this year it jumped to $130.

This Sunday is Daylight Saving and that will be interesting walking. It’ll be later time wise but the light will be about the same. I’m not sure what time I’ll get out there, but walking at 7:30 as opposed to 6:30 won’t work. It’s too late as I like to be done by 7am at the latest.

Tonight is pizza night. Nothing homemade just a take and bake thing.

It’s Monday!

It’s Monday and it’s SUNNY! Gee, a few days have gone by and not much has happened. Just my day to life.  BTW, my sister did start her chemo last week. 3x weekly. That’s definitely tough. I hope it goes well for her. I’m still planning to fly to Conn sometime maybe May or June.

I’m needing to find some new blogs to read, any suggestions? Some of the ones I used to read are just boring me ( not you Spo!!), or I’m not interested in seeing them post pictures of themselves constantly. So, It’s been kinda bleak. I do learn so much from other bloggers and enjoy the insight into their lives. Especially minimalist ones. I do like some of the big name bloggers but mostly I enjoy people who have normal everyday things going on.

So I went to Goodwill yesterday looking for a vase for the Farmgirl Flowers and found a lovely milk glass one thats called Hobnail Milk glassIMG_1269.jpg.

Then I like it so much I went back for a small bud vase as I want to dry the eucalyptus.

I don’t know if this has a name or not. I got this for .60 ,not bad!!  Now I’m really liking the white of the milk glass so I’ll look for some more to put plants in.

I’m off to shop at Grocery Outlet and then Staples for printer ink.

Dinner is unknown at this point. I guess I’d better work on a menu. Probably tofu something.

Friday things

Well, it has stopped raining for now, and so far no snow. So that’s good news. I’m going to the gym this morning to make up for my workout yesterday.

I shopped yesterday at the Holiday market here in town, so I don’t need any groceries. As I mentioned before, we are so lucky to have such a great organic market plus a great deli. They also carry Smart Chicken which is the only chicken I will buy.  They also have a great wine section and carry Boars Head cheese and meats so really a win-win.

The second zone this week is the entry ways and right now the sun porch is quite messy with rain gear and fire wood and misc. Since it’s cold out there, it’s just going to have to stay that way till it warms up a little. The front entry is also messy with just debris from the storm. That’ll have to wait to be swept till the storm moves out Sunday.

I have one load of laundry to do and a quick vacuum.

I completely forgot to update my Light chains results. I finally got them this week and they are all NORMAL!!! The ratio is 1.1 so that’s great news!! So Happy!!!Yay!!!

Tonight is a homemade pesto pizza with pine nuts.

March in like a lion!

Wow, we are in for quite the storm. Right now it’s really raining and there is wind. It’s supposed to be like this all day. There’s a blizzard warning for the Sierras, so my daughter is not driving to Truckee because it would probably take all day. Instead, she’ll go to another branch closer to home. I’m glad she has this option.

I’m staying home and not going to the gym. I’m going to make a minestrone soup and maybe some chicken. I have the soup in the crockpot so that’s done.

I worked on the budget and things look pretty good. We spent $130 at Home Depot yesterday on garden stuff. I really need to budget garden stuff because every year we have a garden and it’s not cheap with seeds, plants, soil etc.  I’d like to order a truckload of topsoil /manure for the gardens as they really need it. We will see.

We’re getting lots of eggs from the girls right now so my daughter can start selling eggs again. That gives her cash for a coffee or lunch at work. Her co-workers love the eggs.

That’s about it.  I’m rewatching Downton Abbey. It’s great for rainy afternoons.

‘Sibley, Birds of Land, Sea, and Sky’ a book review

9781524761820.jpegThis is a beautiful assortment of postcards with birds like the Snowy owl, Red Tail Hawk, and many more.  There are 5 categories; waterfowl, woodpeckers, wading birds, songbirds, and owls/raptors.

It’s a lovely collection and would make a bird lover happy.  The drawings are very detailed as well.

I would highly recommend this for any bird or nature lover.

This set of postcards was given to me from blogging for books in exchange for my honest review.
