Thankful Thursday And Happy Halloween!!!

The good news is that his hemoglobin went up to 10.4 so he had his chemo yesterday. I really do hope the 25% reduction helps keep his numbers at least above the cut-off for transfusions. I am very thankful he could do the chemo. So now we have to wait and see what will happen this round.

I’m certainly thankful that I could drop him off at Rocklin Infusion and then go down to the pool. It’s maybe 10 minutes away even with traffic.

Speaking of traffic, yesterday must have been crazy driver day. It started as I was getting on the freeway here in MV and a white BMW was right on my ass and then cut out in front of me and then swerved back right in front of me. I couldn’t believe it. How much of a hurry are you in? Anyway, I’m grateful there wasn’t an accident.

I’m thankful we have rain this morning. It’s only a drizzle but it is getting things wet. I decided not to walk. It’s going to take some time to adjust to fall behind on Sunday. Ugh….why can’t they pass the law and leave DLS in place?

The only thing I need to do is go in to get B’s anti-nausea medication. He thought he had gotten it but he didn’t. The pharmacy opens at 10 so I’ll go then.

I’ve been trying to teach myself how to use Canva. I wanted to make some vellum placeholders for my cash envelopes. I’m somewhat challenged in that department as I can never remember quite what to do. But I did get a template done so I was pleased. When I look on Etsy some of these placeholders or dashboards are $5-8 dollars a piece. I have bought some downloads in the past for my envelopes but generally those run about $4. Today I’m going to try a few more.

I thought about canceling my Washington Post subscription over Bezos not endourseing Harris but decided not to. Did anyone out there cancel their Post sub?

I might check out the NYT. Does anyone have both? Is it worth it?

  1. This may likely be my longest comment ever! We have subscribed to the Post (hard copies delivered via USPS) for more than 40 years. I have subscribed to the Times online for at least 10 years. So, I read them both.

I do feel the Post has turned a bit to the right over the past few years. To me, the Times has been pretty consistently in the middle. About the endorsement …

As a journalism major, I have always paid attention to this sort of thing. On one hand, I don’t believe the newspaper owes the public an endorsement. On the other hand, free press is a benchmark of democracy, so they have an important role to play in all this. I actually kind of agree with what Bezos said about credibility and endorsements, except I don’t believe him. I think it’s all about money and the potential to piss off Trump. If the Post had legitimate reasons for stopping endorsements, they wouldn’t have waited this long to do it.

My husband won’t stop his subscription to the Post because the Times doesn’t have comics! The Post also features Jennifer Rubin, who is a voice of sanity in this mess. I guess that means I will continue to read both, although I prefer the Times and find it worth the money. Plus, I love the games! And cooking!

As for Bezos, I find him loathesome. I’m unlikely to quit Amazon completely, but I can definitely cut back and spend my money elsewhere.

And great news on the hemoglobin. Sending good vibes your way.

    • Thanks for the great comment. I think I will keep the subscription for now. But I am going to add in the NY times so then I can decide. I’m going to try and do less Amazon but lots of the things I buy on there i just don’t want the hassle of going out to find them. I dislike shopping so things like Simple Human garbage bags in bulk, beeswax candles (bulk) I get on there so ??? I do hate contributing to his gizzilions though.

  2. I’ve been reading your blog off and on for a while. I limit how many blogs I comment on due to time, tho now that I’m mostly retired I’ve got more free time. So I subscribe to the NY Times online, but not the Washington Post. I used to read it through my employers subscription, but now I will not bother anymore. I agree with Retirement Confidential, Bezos is not at all honest about his reasons. I hope treatment helps B.
