Saturday doings

So its off to the library again. Today we don’t get transit so it’ll  be easier. B and my daughter are  going to the farmers market to get some veggies for the week. We haven’t been in a while.

I’m typing this on our new Mac Air which is amazing. I’d like to get my daughter a mac pro for school. We’re sharing this and that’s great, but I think she’d love her own. I haven’t  figured out auto correct yet. Oh , I might have just figured it out. Nope, not yet.

So I’m learning some new stuff, which is what I wanted to do. I’d like to learn how to do spread sheets for budgeting.

I didn’t start the Pomalyst yet. I’ll get a blood test on Wednesday and then get the results thursday. Not sure what this will mean for future cycles. if it continues to bounce back up after 10 days good. but if not, pomalsyt may not be something i can use. Id be pretty upset if that happened. So no dex tonight. Good I guess.

Tomorrow were doing a Costo run. Mostly TP, oxo, stuff like that. This week my menus will be :

Saturday BBQ something

Sunday roast chicken with salad

Monday pasta something

Tuesday tacos

Wednesday, we will gone so, so on your own!!

Thursday not sure

Friday homemade pizza

Off for now to tidy up before work.

Disappointed

well, I was disappointed with my lab numbers. Well, good is my m protein went down a bit .4 but my kappa light chains went up again. so disappointing. I’m only on the 2 mg of pomalyst and its my first cycle, but still. I guess we will do another cycle and then if it still is up we’ll up the dose to the 4mg. Also, I’m waiting to see if  my neutrophils go up to start the next cycle tomorrow. But the good news is my zometa went great and i feel good. Today i have the Friends of the Library meeting and then I’m working the 3-7 shift(which i never do). not too happy about it but she can’t be there so I’ll do it. Hey I’m writing this on our new Mac Air, OMG, it is amazing. Of course i don’t know how to do much yet but I’ll learn. Well, off for now. I’ll try  to not be too discouraged by my numbers..:(

update: neutrophils still low, so we will wait a week ( or next Wednesday to do another CBC panel)

Disappointed for sure😕

Wednesday stuff

imageWell, so far its been a nice week off pomalyst. I’ve felt pretty good. I e messaged my doctor and he said not to worry, I was only mildly neutophrenic. So, since I feel good, I haven’t worried. I’ll start Pom on Friday.

We’ve been quite busy at the library since out main branch is closed for re carpeting. Lots of new people picking up holds etc. tomorrow I have a FOL meeting and we’ll be voting on officers and summer reading budget. That is if we have a quorum. We should as most members know it’s an important meeting.

We’ve had quite cool weather but still very nice. Low 70’s, and a little breezy.

My husband put together the Poang chair and the little side table from Ikea and both are quite nice. So I have decide if I’ll get another Poang chair so there’s two. I’ll wait and see. I haven’t put the new slip covers on and maybe later today.

So today is my doctors appointment and my zometa infusion. This is my first one in almost a year. Maybe it’s 10 months. So, I’m taking Gatorade and Tylenol. I usually spike a little fever the first night for a few hours. Also, you generally feel a little dragged out. I don’t have much to go over with him except, my low ANC, and hopefully my FLC and Spep test results are there. But usually it’s 3 days. I’m still not sure about getting the paper work for the second opinion going. I’m in resistance for some reason.

Then I thought we might stop at Costco, but usually I’m too wiped out after zometa so I’ll have to plan that another day unless I feel good.

Here’s the really exciting news. Today my Mac Air is showing up. Finally after saying I was going to get one for the last 3 years ,I did it. Plus, my daughter , in graduate school, all of a sudden thought she’d like to use one too.  So…… I’m very excited. Not sure what I’ll do with it yet that’s different from my iPad but it will have a keyboard and a bigger screen. So exciting!!!!

I still haven’t figured out how to insert the pictures here, where I want them. Maybe with my new MacAir I can figure it out.

Low neutrophils? Any ideas??

Just got my blood work back and my absolute neutrophils are at 925/ul. I don’t think I’ve ever had them this low. Last month on revlimid they were just under 1500. But now this is pomalyst. Oddly enough I feel great. Any ideas. Wait a week since this is my week off and get another blood panel??

I see my doctor Wednesday , so I’ll see what he says . Just thought someone might have ideas.

I’m on 2 mg of pomalyst.

Happy Mother’s Day and a trip to IKEA

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms out there. Even moms of fur babies etc!

I had a terrific day that started with my son making English scrambled eggs on toast. Then he gave me some lovely Burt Bees stuff and bath salts. Nice!!! My daughter got me a cook book I’ve looked for forever at used book stores. It’s the Zuni Cafe Cookbook. Its a classic and so far I love looking at the recipes. Z uni cafe is in San francisco and quite famous. My wonderful husband got me a beautiful white rose bush to match the 2 I have. It’s called Icelandic . I love the white rose. Also I finally broke down and said, I want the waffle maker. So I have a great Cuisinart waffle maker that showed up in 1 day. How does Amazon do that. They delivered on Sunday.

Then off we went clutching a gift card he had won( well, I was clutching it)! Off to IKEA. It was so amazing. Hardly anyone was there when we arrived at 9:30. Had coffee and lots of carbs to fotify ourselves for the maze of IKEA. I’d been keeping a list for six months, from candles to a poang chair!!

We over spent by $40 dollars, because as we were leaving to go check out I saw a lounge chair and had to have it. It’s very sturdy to lay out side on but it doesn’t go to an upright position to read. So, it’s too far to return it ,so I’ll just use a pillow to prop my self up. I’m guessing it’s more of a pool lounge. Anyway ,everything else is great. Well, we haven’t put together the other stuff so I hope it’s all good.

I’m in the bathroom zone this week. And tidy up since I have things all over.

An interrupted life

We all know that Tom Brokaws’ book is coming out next week. He was on dateline last night and it is supposedly quite good. I’ll watch it sometime time today. It’s pretty great that the word Myeloma is even out there now on national TV. Most people don’t have a clue, or they think melanoma ( no it’s not skin cancer)! But, all of us with myeloma have had our lives interrupted . Some more so than others. The young mom who wonders if she’ll see her kids grow up. The corporate executive at the height of his/her career.

Or just ordinary people like me that was just just living my life, homeschooling my son, and one day a compression fracture. Then, undiagnosed for a year and a half, the bomb drops. And my life is seriously

interrupted with chemo weekly, dex, who know what else radiation, finally a 3 week hospital stay for a SCT.

a year of my life, interrupted.

All of us with multiple myeloma have had an interrupted life. Some didn’t make it even with the best care. I think about them all the time.

Im glad that a famous person can help put a face to myeloma and help educate people. Recently the acclaimed author Ivan Doig died from myeloma . I wonder how much this was in the news. .? Iwould hope that someone like Tom Brokaw wouldn’t feel he can’t reach out on the beacon or the othe support groups simply because he’s famous. So what, we’re all in the same boat, and I would hope we would all treat him like a fellow  warrior  or survivor or what ever we, all leading interrupted lives.

Wednesday budgeting

I’ve been working on the budget for May. So far okay. We’re still spending on spring gardening stuff, but some of that is soil, fertilizers and stuff to make the garden do better. So an investment really. Food costs are high but not over budget yet, but it’s still early in the month. We did a huge Costco trip a week ago, and I will still need a few Costco things next week. We have a once a year fire assesment  tax which is

being challenged but still have to pay it. I’m diligently working on building the one savings account to cover our fall big expenses. Insurance and property tax. It’s always the unexpected stuff that throws us off and the refrigerator is really making a loud clunking noise when it goes off. Humm do we wait or try and get something sooner??

Then my son is going to go to school next fall and take 20 units to finish is AS degree. He thinks he doesn’t want to work and just focus on this. So if this is the case we will need to give him gas and spending money. His grant covers all his classes so we’re lucky there. If I feel good enough I could work an extra shift a week and that would cover it. So, I guess we’ll see.

I’m off for a dental hygienist treatment and have one tooth checked. I swear if I need another root canal I will scream. I’m hoping it’s just a cavity that was there before but we didn’t do anything then. Next week I have my first Zometa treatment I’m almost a year, so I have to do that. But that means no dental work for at least a month. So, we’ll see.

Its suppose to rain tomorrow and I’m suppose to get my pomalyst delivered too. It means waiting around all day as its signature required.

I should be getting my LLS insurance refund too. It’s not much but it helps and they do so much including paying my Pom copay which has gone up to $45. Pom is even more expensive than revlimid.

Well, off to vacuum and then town.

May Day

imageIt’s May and everything is blooming. Plus, lots of pollen. I don’t have bad allergies but just enough with the oak and pine pollens. I take a homeopathic pill that works pretty good.

Tonight is Dex night so I’ll take a Benadryl and Ativan. Also after reading the Myeloma Beacon and the colum this month by Andrew about revlimid related diarehea and what he did to stop it by taking Colestid, I’ve decided I’m going to ask for a prescription when I see the doctor next. Even though it’s not as bad as it was, which was pretty bad for almost a year, it’s still a concern. I’ll bring in the article although he did know about the drug when I asked maybe, 5 months ago. Being on pomalyst I haven’t had quite the same issue but it’s always  a concern and I’ve had two to close for comfort calls. So I’m going to do it. Sigh, another drug, but I’d rather not worry constantly where’s a bathroom!!

Last night was pizza night. I’ve been using the recipe from”Date night In”. It’s a very good recipe and does slow rise in the fridge for 24-48 hours. Its a good cook book and I’d recommend it.

Off to library stuff.

Bbq chicken / tofu for dinner.

Another Home Depot trip today….. More money…. Spring is really about spending money on plants , yard, etc. we’re trying to put a brick patio out front and need more pavers. They’re expensive, but it looks nice and clean off the dirt.
