I’m so glad it’s Thursday and now 3 appts are done. My Wellness check went well for the most part. We talked about a number of things including my cholesterol being higher than it should be. So I decided to start a statin. Personally, I have no problem being prescribed drugs if they help and make the situation better. I mean I’m full of chemo drugs and still here to talk about it. Anyway, all good.
So grateful for that being over.
I’m grateful that our new Costco is so close and I can pop down there which I did after my appt. I went to get cottage cheese and a few other things but completely forgot cottage cheese. Oh well, there’ll be another trip I’m sure. I’m trying to eat more protein and cottage cheese is an easy way to do that.
I’m grateful for a wonderful swim yesterday. The pool was quite nice.
I’m grateful for my family who is always there to help as necessary.
So 2 appt’s done and 2 more to go. I really hate having so many appts all in one week. But it should be over soon.
I got my labs done yesterday and then went to the gym and library. It felt good to do my weights. Today I’m going to the pool as it’s my only chance this week.
We did get the pizza at Round Table the other night. My daughter paid for it and she had a deal for one of them. B has something going on with his stomach?? so he didn’t eat any.
I did get pretty upset at him and yelled he needed to call the doctor. Well, he got an appt but it didn’t seem to be conclusive as to why he’s having some pain. Geez, let’s hope it’s not anything bad. I mean it’s only been a few weeks since his CT scan and the laparoscopy so I can’t figure out what it might be. Hopefully, he’ll just feel better because it’s a bummer.
It’s going to be raining for the next few days. It sounds like a good soup day. This weekend is the end of DLS so we’ll be springing forward. What a PITA. It takes me about a week to adjust. At least it’ll be light later. I prefer the light in the morning.
We watched the Conclave the other night and would recommend it. It’s not fast moving but it is so well done. With the pope ready to die, it seems a timely movie.
Then last night we watched the new Beverly Hills Cop movie. It was fun and it’s fun to see how everyone is so much older( like all of us).
It’s been a week since the surgery and B is doing fantastic. He’s doing mostly his normal chores just being more careful. So I’m so thankful he has a great response.
I’m thankful the drive to Palo Alto and back were uneventful (except for a few assholes) but mostly it went smoothly.
I’m very grateful for the Sheraton giving us a discount that was probably half of what the room rate was. When we’re down there next, if it’s a week that’ll add up but we don’t really have an alternative. An Airbnb would probably cost more.
I’m thankful my dentist appt went well too and is over.:) I do have a cleaning coming up so there’s that. 😦
As always I’m grateful to be able to swim and go for walks. I’d like to ramp it up some but honestly, it feels like this is the best I can do at this time. So I’ll take what I can do and not worry about adding to it.
I made the garlic confit yesterday but cooked the garlic too long and some burned so I just drained the olive oil into a jar to use and threw out the garlic cloves. It tasted good. ( the olive oil).
This is the homemade butter I made using heavy cream I had frozen. I made it in the Kitchen aid.
The dentist was long yesterday but it worked out fine. The fillings were taken care of. She’s a good dentist. I just wish that Medicare had some dental option. It was very pricey:(
Today I’m heading to the pool for a swim. I don’t have anything else urgent that needs doing so I’ll come straight home. I want to make a few of the condiment recipes in the new cookbook. She has a recipe for olive oil mayo that looks easy and I have the breadcrumbs with rosemary and parsley dried and ready to whiz up. I also plan on making the garlic confit with some cherry tomatoes I have some that need to be used up. BTW, if you’re a Costco shopper those cherry tomatoes, Hirros, are absolutely delicious.
I plan to vacuum as well and do some dusting. We heat mostly with wood ( no central air/heat) and it does create dust. We do have a wall heater(propane) that we use on very cold mornings.
It’s another cloudy day but not too cold. I think the temperature is around 55 degrees.
Well, I best be off to do my daily routine so I can read in a bit.
Well, whatever got me left pretty quickly. I think it may have been a build-up of acid reflux, which is why I take omeprazole daily. But I’m not a doctor, so I don’t know. This happened once before but then I had taken Dex and Dr. L thought the two were related. This time, no dex, but I did eat the turkey chili which probably was acidic. Who knows? Ill keep take in my journal. Anyway, I felt better by yesterday afternoon. And I slept well last night.
I didn’t walk this morning, though, so I’ll go down to the pool and swim. Tomorrow I’ll walk and get back on schedule.
Great news. Stanford called, and we have an appt for Feb 12. She didn’t have the exact time yet, so we need to hear what that is. So, at this point, we’ll go down on the 11th, he does need labs from their lab, so we’ll do that first. The lab is in the Medical Center, so we know where that is. I’m glad we have a focus finally!!
The 12th is also my appt with Dr.Laptalo, so I’ll have to cancel that and reschedule. As long as my numbers are stable( with some fluctuations), I’m fine with that.
I’m seriously trying not to be totally flipped out about what Trump is doing. Hesgreth confirmed?? RFK is a lunatic, the press conference person with a cross around her neck big enough to ward off vampires?? WTF is happening in this country??? I feel so hopeless right now. I just can’t imagine 4 more years of this if we even make it before we are an autocracy. So hard to imagine where we are in this country right now.
Well, I need to go get my suit on and control at least some fraction of my life. Swimming does help, as does walking. Keep on keeping on, I guess.
I bought a humidifier from Amazon to see how it might help with sleep apnea. My Apple watch showed it right on the line so that is an improvement. Plus, I didn’t wake up with a dry throat, so I think it will help. I’ll keep tracking it although Apple tracks for you, it’s the other stuff I’m doing that I’ll track.
Today is a swim day and I’m glad to be going. If I miss too many days I feel like a fish out of water:) After the pool, I may pop over to Winco but I’ll decide later. Otherwise, I’ll come straight home.
I have another sourdough ready to go so I’ll have someone at home(while I’m gone) start the oven to get it up to 475. It takes a while. This time I made one of my favorites the cheddar jalapeno. If we have the vegetable barley soup tonight that will be a good side.
I can’t even begin to process what the orange king is doing. Pardoning the Jan 6 felons is right up there with …I don’t even know. It’s so upsetting. I hope everything that he does comes back to haunt him. I can’t even begin to imagine how those Capital police families must feel. The betrayal and lack of morality are off the charts.
Here are the curtains I made for the sink. Barclay picked out this fabric. Since I love all things pinecones, it’s fitting.
When I got to the pool Monday, the parking lot was fairly empty. It seems the warming pool was closed because of something so a lot of people weren’t there. Also, the lap lanes were not too crowded. I got my favorite lane by the stairs. I had a good swim and did 950 yards again. My guess is that’s about my limit right now. I was pretty tired when I got home.
I am really enjoying having the Apple watch. I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I do. Usually, I don’t like anything on my wrist but this has really helped me track my steps and swimming and the sleep stuff. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re on the fence.
The baguettes came out GREAT!
The recipe is straight forward and easy to follow. I wouldn’t buy the book though for just this recipe. I took a picture of the recipe to use later. Most of the other recipes are using more unusual grains like Eikorn which I don’t have. Still, this is a great recipe to have. I made this with rosemary and wowza!!
Today is a home day. Usually, I go to the gym but I don’t feel like driving. It’s still early yet so I may go to Costco and get a few things.
Here’s the front room without the rug. We took it up because it seemed every time we vacuumed it was full of lint and fibers. I think it was because the rug was a shag rug and it just had that stuff. I love the fact it’s so easy to clean and when I vacuumed there was very little stuff in the vacuum so my point was taken. I will get another rug eventually but it’ll be something like a Ruggable. I can’t afford that now, especially with the VW in the shop.
My labs came back with my Kappa up some to 19.8 so a bit of a jump from 18.2 but since I’m just over high normal, I’m not too worried. High normal is 19.4. It is what it is and every month there is some variation.
B has his labs today. He’s only going once a week now and all have been good. Tomorrow is the big day with the appt with Dr. Lee so we should have a good idea of what comes next.
The menu plan has changed a bit since I made it up. We had Boca burgers last night and tonight we’ll have the soup( pasta fagioli ). I used some of my canned beans, the Marcella, and kidney. I plan on canning more pintos very soon. It takes some planning and it is time-consuming with the pressure canner going.
A cold morning to start and damp. We had a nice walk again, with no one there. I guess we must be between walkers because haven’t had anyone in a few weeks on the weekend. During the week, I see some regulars that start to show up around 7am. The next 10 days look nice with no rain so that’ll help dry things out.
I headed out to the gym at 8am and it was a little busier with the ‘new years resolution exercise’ people. I left before 9 and then it was getting even busier.
I stopped at the store for some things for a greek salad and wine. After I got home I cleaned under the kitchen sink. It’s the kitchen zone this week, so tomorrow I’ll finish the cabinets and I want to clean the fridge.
My son is coming for dinner and to spend the night out in Rubi. He works in Auburn on Mondays so it’s a good time to catch up. I plan on cooking some leftover turkey and potatoes. I also have leftover nut loaf to heat up as well.
This coming week should be mellow, no appts !!! Hurray!! I don’t have my labs till next week so that’s a little different than usual. I always go the Monday after my shot but because I had been scheduled for my next Velcade later( Feb), I pushed my labs out. We did reschedule me for the end of January or 4 weeks.
Last night we watched ‘To kill a Mockingbird’. Even though I’ve seen it many times and read the book so many times. it is still such a powerful movie. Gregory Peck did such an amazing job as Atticus Finch. If you haven’t seen it in a while, check it out. We finished the series the Helsinki Murders. I wouldn’t really recommend it. It was dark and seemed overdone. Oh well, some series are like that.
I do plan to go to Roseville tomorrow and swim but I do have an alternative plan if the pool is too busy. If the wait is longer than 10 minutes for a lane, I’ll go down to the gym. I’ll just need to pack my gym clothes as I wear my suit to the pool. Plus, I’ll need to bring my Hoka’s as I wear my Birkenstocks to the pool. Whichever the case, I’ll do one or the other.
Not much else new here at mi casa so I’ll close for now.
Well, we made it to the end of the year. After the election, I pretty much haven’t read too much news. Little blips come in now and then but overall, I think my mental health is better for it.
I’m dreading frump taking office. It’s beyond comprehension how he can stand at that podium and take the oath of office after everything he’s done. I’m convinced he’ll go down in history as the worst president EVER. It’s going to be a shit storm for sure. Well, I can only control myself and my little world, so I’ll focus on that.
I was planning on staying home today but I need to return an Amazon purchase. I accidentally clicked on 2 of a calendar and I don’t need two calendars. Since I’ll be in town, I’ll get the veggies for the fondue tonight. if my daughter comes with me, she mentioned needing to go to Target.
The dinner menu was simple for the week :
Pasta bake from the freezer
Costco’s vegetable soup and rolls
fondue (tonight)
nut loaf and potatoes from the freezer
pizza of some sort
something else from the freezer
tofu scramble with leftover veggies
Lots of simple meals this week.
I have a few goals for 2025 but mostly it’s maintaining my swimming, gym workouts, and walking.
I’d like to add finding one new place to camp with full hook-ups and going to the coast, but so much depends on how the surgery goes and recovery. And as of right now, we don’t even know if that’s what will happen. If he gets the green light then we need to plan hotel stays and how that is going to all work out with me staying there. As far as we know B would be in the hospital for probably 2 weeks and then I’m not sure if he needs to stay within 15 minutes of the hospital like he did at UCD. If so we will need something like an extended stay hotel. I guess we’ll know by mid-January as that’s when Dr. Lee is back from vacation.
I could think of lots of other things I’d like to set as goals but I don’t want to commit to anything.
Around the house and yard, we need another carport as the one over the VW broke in the summer. We need to budget for garden stuff.
The VW needs a starter and battery so that needs to be budgeted.
I’d like to start painting some of the rooms, especially the living room.
Anything with remodeling the kitchen is totally on hold as we just don’t have money but we do need a new stove so that will get budgeted. Our stove has knobs on the front and because it’s about 10 years old the knobs will turn on if you lean over the stove and that is way dangerous. We’re all aware of it, so we’re careful but it has happened and then you can smell gas. I think I can find a good stove for around $1000. The one we have is Whirpool and it’s been a great stove except for this knob issue. I’ll check Costco first and then Lowes or Home Depot.
Of course, I’d like to keep minimizing things around the house and making sure we have only the things we need, use, and love. Mostly, that’s just keeping on top of hot spots like the entry way because things do pile up there.
Financially, have most of my cash envelopes fully funded for annual bills. That does take some effort as SS only goes so far. Right now, I have $70 for car maintenance so that needs some money for the VW repair. I’m sure it’s going to be around $1000.
As always, we’ll see what happens.
Wishing you a happy new Year!! “let’s hope it’s a good one without any fear” John Lennon.
Wow, 2024 is coming to a close and Wednesday is 2025. I still need to write a few goals for the year. Nothing monumental, just things like keep walking, keep swimming, and up the number of times a week. Stuff like that.
A very very rainy morning. No walk again, so I’ll use the treadmill. I might try and walk tomorrow but I’ll wait and see. I was planning on going to the Roseville gym and the library. I have some books to return and a hold to pick up. The rain is supposed to stop later and tomorrow looks sunny so that may be the deciding factor.
Despite the rain, B and I went to Costco. He needed the protein drink and he wanted cereal too. We bought some of the sale items, dishwasher pods, and Swiffer dusters, and it seems there was something else on sale. We got a rug for the entry way as we’ve been using a towel and that gets old. I picked eggs, tofu, milk, bananas, and salad mix and they had microgreens which I love. This was a new item. Oh, we picked up the vegetable barley soup for an easy dinner.
Yesterday, I did most of my house chores, so today is an easy day. For dinner, I made brown rice, sweet potatoes, grilled tofu, and broccoli, and there’s enough for lunch today or even dinner if I add something extra.
I started reading another Baldacci series, the Camel Club. So far I like the characters and the plot. My son gave me a great Christmas present of 6 or 7 Baldacci hardcovers he got at the thrift store. They are in almost new condition. What a great gift. He always zeroes in on the right gift for people. Plus he said he didn’t want to buy anything new but used/thrifted. Very Cool. He found the graphic novel, “March” byJohn Lewis and others at the thrift store too, and that made a great gift to B.
We’re halfway through Hanukkah and I only did a card and cash for each person. The cash was only a $2 bill which believe it or not are very hard to find. So I’m definitely winding down the gift-giving which is my goal.
We finished the “Astrid” series and it was really good. Now we need to find a new series to watch. Does anybody have a recommendation?
I've been married for nearly 20 years to a wonderful husband and I'm a mom to three great kids ages 17, 16 and 14. Oh, and I just happen to have cancer. Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the blood that is currently incurable but IS considered highly treatable! My goal is to make people laugh, cry or feel a little less alone whether you are a mom, cancer patient or BOTH!
