Simple Sunday

A lovely walk this morning. Quiet and no one there to begin with. One person showed up later but we were leaving by then.

I got another loaf( baguette style) of sourdough ready to go. I put it in the oven and set the timer so B could take it out. I was heading into the Auburn gym. I did my usual 30 minutes and then went over to Target. I rarely shop at Target anymore but I need stainless wipes( I use Weiman’s and think this is the best product I’ve tried) and their sliced cheeses are also very good and affordable. I think ice cream snuck into my cart because it was on sale. Usually, I just call all this a Target trip but this time I’m going to separate the categories and subtract them from my cash envelopes. I think that’ll keep the categories more accurate.

After I got home, I checked the bread and it came out great.

I do have a baguette pan so that does help.

The only thing I did differently is I didn’t add that much more flour after the first rise. I added maybe a cup.

I think I’ll try this one next.

I found this really fun cookbook at the FreeLittle Library and it’s a gem. Lots of stories and the book is divided by cities and regions with lots of history.

Last night I made Tucson Crispy Tacos. They were yummy. This recipe calls for frying the corn tortillas till crisp and then fold over. It actually worked great.

Tonight I’m going to make Chile relleno casserole. I have made recipes like this before. That seems like a lot of cheese so I’ll probably do 1/2 that.

B got the trim off the bathroom window. It did, as with everything, take longer.

Those boards are the original when the house was built and are all rough-cut fir. They are not standard sizes and very thick. It looks like there had been some water damage previously but I don’t think B is going to try and pull all that out. that would be too involved and mostly it looks like surface damage. He may try using some Tyvec.

Anyway, it’s a start!

We have another warm sunny day here in Northern California and it’s quite lovely.

Friday things

Overall, it was a low-spend week. Yesterday, I went into Target( the first time in quite a while) as I was looking for extra lights. They had zip. All sold out. I did pick up a few ugly ornaments to add to the ugly ornament tree. I picked up a few kitchen items to give as a Christmas gift for my son’s friend. They like to cook so I thought a few kitchen items would be nice.

Then, before I met my friends for coffee, I went into Safeway as I needed a couple more russets for the latkes. Also, I wanted to get our garbage guy a bottle of wine to add to his gift bag. We don’t do many gifts but I feel he works all year in rain, snow, etc, and deserves a little appreciation. Other than that, Christmas is done.

Today, I’m making a big batch of pizza dough to freeze and then use one for dinner tonight. The recipe I have makes 4 balls of dough and it’s been working out well this way.

I’ll be continuing the low spend into next week too and just do the one Winco shop for the Christmas lasagna ingredients. I’ve stayed off Amazon and that’s saying something!!!

I certainly am feeling better each day but next week starts Cycle 3. The great news is though, my numbers just hit normal. 19.0 . High normal is 19.4. My ratio between kappa and lambda is still a little high but that will eventually drop. In spite of some aspects being harder than I thought it would be( or maybe I just forgot from last time), it’s worth it if Velcade/Dex is doing the work.

Today, we’re going to go out for a while and maybe get lunch out. We’ll see:)

Simple Sunday

We are getting things ready in the trailer and I’ve been working on the menu and foodstuff. I’m making lists for Tuesday morning since we want to leave by 8:30. With one stop for gas I’m guessing arriving around 1 or 1:30.

I plan on doing 2 Lodge meals so that’ll be fun. Then at least 1 BBQ maybe 2. Cooking outside is so nice and then the kitchen doesn’t get messy.

I went to the Auburn gym this morning and then over to Target. I wanted to get some of the Stasher bags to put things in. They are a reusable silicone bag in lots of sizes. I got the snack size and then the sandwich size which I plan to use for sliced cheese camping, and then a 4 cup bag. They were on sale but still they are pricey. If I like using them I’ll get more slowly to build up a nice supply.

These are a daffodil hybrid. I can’t remember if I got these from Brecks or Johnny’s but they are so pretty.

16th of December

A brisk day with a north wind. Chilly but sunny.

We had a lovely walk this morning. It was nice to walk together.

I went to town and dropped another GoodWill load of the things I’d gathered from doing the minimalist game. Then I went to drop off food pantry stuff at our credit union that had a barrel out for our local food bank. It was a hefty bag of stuff that I gleaned from my own pantry.  I’m trying to have only enough in our pantry that we use regularly.  I guess if the apocalypse happens we’ll just have to make do. We do keep emergency water and some canned goods in the barn but it’s not in my regular rotation.

Then I went to Target to get some colored twinkly lights and there was not a one. But I picked up a candle, a white basket to hold some pantry goods, cat food(of course) and something else? Oh, there was a little artificial plant (tiny) in a white pot 1/2 off so it was $ 2.50. I put it in the bathroom as real plants have a hard time in there during the winter as it’s pretty cold.

So, home again and putting together my sisters christmas box of goodies to send. Then I put a gift bag together for our garbage guy. A target gift card and a bottle of maple syrup. Next up is our UPS guy. Proabaly another Starbucks gift card. That’s it. Oh, B picked up the GC for my brother at Tractor supply.

Dinner is a potato kugel and a cornish hen and a kale salad. My daughter said she’d cook. Yay!!! The potato kugel is from Smitten Kitchen so undoubtedly, good.

Simple Sunday

A cool day after the rain but sunny.

We were out walking by 5:30 ( or 6:30) Daylight savings time. It wasn’t completely dark. Our other regular usually doesn’t walk on Sundays so we had the park to ourselves and the geese and ducks. But sort of as expected the regular 7am crowd showed up at 6 am. Tomorrow will be interesting to see who’s there.

Then it was the Kitchen Zone this week, so I wiped all the cabinets, top of the refrigerator and did the windows and stove hood. All I need to do is mop the floor tomorrow.

We had pumpkin pancakes for breakfast with some bacon and veggie sausage and scrambled eggs. Quite yummy really.

Then it was on to the gym and Target.  I needed to get twinkly lights. I only got 2 packs because they weren’t on sale. Plus cat food, of course. PLus a couple of large Xmas bags to put gifts in. I decided this would be a good way to just have the simple gifts in a bag for each person. We’ll see how that goes.

I came home and got the pork roast in the Lodge to cook for a few hours and made homemade mac and cheese and I just finished the salad. I’m guessing were eating a little earlier tonight than usual.IMG_0386.jpg

Here’s a cute picture of Rocky and Ollie( the cat)!!

Sunday to do list

Yikes, we did a lot already and it’s just after 1 pm.

B and I walked 2.7 miles. This is the most I’ve walked yet. That was at 7am. Then breakfast, went to town. First stop Staples for more of the photo holders. Nope it was 9:45, not open till 10. Onward to the feed store for hay for the birds, nope 9:50 not open till 10.

down to Bel Air to return to extra spices B had gotten me for pickles , yes, they were open. Over to Home Depot for stuff, caulking, a hook ,and something else, can’t remember. Then over to target. Spent way too much, but got a bunch of organizing stuff. An oxo turn thing for my vitamins. A cute shelf thing that stacks the cans, very nice. A new set of fry pans as the ones were using are all scratched. The old ones are Rachel ray . I loved the orange color but they did not last. These new ones are kitchen aid. Not very expensive . My other pans are all clad. All clad my opinion are the best besides Lecruset. Then a new t shirt.

And of course cat food!!! then back to the feed store and staples. Yikes, this is a lot for me.

Then came home made some yummy bread( I had made the dough this morning), and started on the pickles. Then put up the shelf in the pantry and I really like how it stacks them . Very neat.

So, I think I’m going to go read for a while….
