Thankful Thursday

I’m thankful for the beautiful weather here in Northern Ca. Our daffodils are up and the flowering cherry tree is blooming. Today is supposed to hit 70. nice!!

I’m grateful B is recovering so well from the laparoscopy and he can pretty much do what needs doing. We have a date now for the surgery and Hipec. It’s April 14. So the plan is to arrive Sunday and he will need labs. Fortunately, the lab is open on Sunday. Then Monday is the surgery although we don’t know the time yet. The surgery is where the surgeon(Dr. Lee) goes in and basically scrapes any cancer areas he sees. Then he is closed back up except for tubes that will administer the chemo. That part I’m not sure how long it will be but it could be quite long. At this point, I am NOT staying in the hospital but will go back to the hotel. After last time sitting in the waiting room just about did me in. Then the plan is I will go see him on Tuesday and check in about how things are. The last time Dr. Lee called me after the surgery was over so I suspect he will do that again. Then B will be in the hospital for at least a week. We haven’t figured out part 2 of getting him as I do not plan on staying all week.

I’m thankful for good food that I cook and feel good enough to do that. Last night we had a piece of the Halibut I got from Alaskian Fish. I think it was the first time I’ve had halibut and it was very good.

I’m grateful I can get my Velcade shot today in Rocklin and not drive into Sacramento. That is a real time saver and emotional one too not having to deal with Sacramento traffic.

I’m not so thankful for Dex overall, but it does do the job so I guess I am grateful for that.

I’m thankful ” to be alive on this fresh morning in this broken world”. What else can I say? Our democracy is in serious danger of falling apart thanks to tRump and mUsk. What a bunch of assholes.

Simple Sunday

It certainly takes a few days to get back to normal stuff after a trip like we did. But today we had a nice walk and then I went to the gym.

I like a schedule and do feel a bit unmoored when we are traveling. Plus, I like routines and the structure they give me.

This coming week I have 2 appts so that’ll change my schedule. I think I’ll swim on Wednesday and then try and hit the gym Friday. It just depends on how much I want to be out and about.

I’m trying not to have a nervous breakdown over frump but it’s hard and my anxiety is high just thinking about what is going on. I just hope enough people start boycotting businesses that have dropped DEI and other ways to hit them in their money pockets.

Barclay is doing really great and still isn’t supposed to lift more than 10 lbs. But he’s doing great with no pain meds. I’m sure the next phase will be harder and a longer recovery. I’m hoping he’s only in the hospital for 2 weeks since that will be easier to either stay or come home. We won’t know any of that till we get the final word from Dr. Lee.

The weather is supposed to get very spring with temperatures in the mid-60s and even low 70s. Yeah, for nice weather. I’m not sure I could handle winters like back east.

Well, I’m keeping this short and will write more soon.

Thankful Thursday

First off, we had a very successful doctor appt with the UCD lung cancer specialist. Even though Barclay does not have mesothelioma in his lungs but in his peritoneum it is treated the same way. She spent a whole hour with us going over all his scans etc. She is very proactive and scheduled another Pet scan and put in for chemo to start once approved by insurance.

She said that we should wait to see what the Stanford specialist says about everything but have the other in place. I really liked her and her approach. Very approachable and down to earth and incredibly smart.

I’m grateful we only have 2 weeks till we go to Stanford although it seems like a long time to wait.

I’m grateful for our lovely cooler weather and it’s just so nice.

I’m sad we have to cancel Tahoe but there’s not any way to go up that week since we’ll be in Palo Alto Thursday and Friday. I’m sad about it but we just aren’t in a position to go up for 2 nights and then come home. Hopefully, there will be another trip.

I’m grateful I had a good day with infusion and then going to the gym and library. Infusion was busy and I have so much respect for the nurses that have to take care of 5 patients at a time. They are super heroes for sure.

Simple Sunday

I went to the pool yesterday and was surprised that it was not crazy busy. Saturdays are definitely hit or miss with being busy. I didn’t do anything afterward, just came home.

This morning I went to the Auburn gym and it was somewhat busy but I just did my thing and left. Then I went to Safeway to get wine, deli sandwich stuff, bread, and some snacks to leave at home. I don’t have anything I need to do around the house so I will get my clothes ready for tomorrow and organize the food a little more.

Capitola is a good 4 1/2 hours trailering so we’ll probably leave around 9am. We also stop at the 2-hour mark for gas and to stretch.

The week ahead looks just great weather-wise. Temperatures are in the 70’s and sunny!! Spring has sprung!!

Simple Sunday

Yesterday was just glorious. Our temperature almost reached 70. It was so nice to sit outside. Alas, we are now headed to some really cold weather. Oh well, soon enough.

I had a great swim on Friday but the pool was packed with the high school team so that wasn’t too great. But I had an end lane so I was fine. It is going to take a while to get back to what I was doing but so far the swimming hasn’t negatively impacted my knee. Next week with Dex/Velcade it will be hard to get a swim in.

After swimming I went over to Winco which is across the street and bought what I needed for the week. Also, we’re planning on Costco because last week I had to go buy coffee at Starbucks. So coffee will be the main reason to get to Costco. I think after that we will go down to the library and pick up my holds and drop off my books. Maybe we’ll go to Paris(Bakery) for a coffee and croissant.

Yesterday, I watered all the house plants and moved a few around. As the sun gets higher it comes in certain windows more and plants need to be moved from direct sun. I also washed a few more windows.

Today after we walk, I will get the sourdough boule in the oven. I made turkey chili yesterday so we’ll have that with some homemade bread and a salad. I have a can of vegetarian chili I can make for B. I want to use up all the stuff that was bought in the pandemic or after. For instance, yesterday I opened a bbq sauce that was best by last year. Normally that wouldn’t bother me, but the seal inside looked suspicious so I tossed it. That’s the kind of thing I want to toss or use.

Overall, I think February’s budget went well. The cash envelope system is working although there are some tweaks I need to make. I didn’t get enough cash for groceries so I used the debit card and need to adjust that amount in the budget. I think it works well if you’re putting accurate amounts in the envelopes. Amazon is tricky because that’s more of a virtual envelope and it goes on a cc. So I might start budgeting $100 a month and then move that to the CC. It’s tweaking these few things that will make it work. Plus, you have to be willing to work with cash and lots of people don’t want to. Also for annual bills, since we’re on a fixed income, there is only so much I can put in the envelopes and probably it won’t add up to the full amount. I’m hoping by fall, I will be able to get some of these fully funded. Another thing people do ( from Youtube) is when they start getting a lot of cash for some of these envelopes, they take the cash to the bank and put it in a high yield account. I think that’s something we need to do by fall as well. I might check with our Credit Union as I think I just saw on their website a high yield savings account. It’s amazing what some people have in cash envelopes but of course, they are usually 2 income people and getting regular paychecks from jobs.

Well, I need to get the bread in the oven before I go to the Auburn gym.

Thankful Thursday

First, our weather has been spectacular for June. We can see temperatures in the 90’s and 100’s by now and we haven’t even hit 90. I guess it looks like the heat is coming with 4th of July going to 105 😦

A good week of a gym workout and a swim. I’m so grateful for Roseville Parks and Rec that they have these facilities. Roseville is a fairly wealthy area so maybe that’s why.

We had 2 BBQ’s this week. Last night I cooked some marinated chicken and it came out great. Then we had a big salad with lots of veggies from the farm stand. I am grateful that the CSA farm is right down the road. They work hard at what they do.

My sourdough came out perfectly. After a few not-so-spectacular loaves, I watched some Youtube videos and figured out I wasn’t quite feeding my starter right. I used one person’s ratios and now it is perfecto.

B replaced the wood that was damaged on the kitchen side of the house where the pipe was leaking. He figured it out and did a great job. It wasn’t an easy task as it meant lifting the frame with a jack and then getting the new wood in there.
