Simple Sunday

Wow, 2024 is coming to a close and Wednesday is 2025. I still need to write a few goals for the year. Nothing monumental, just things like keep walking, keep swimming, and up the number of times a week. Stuff like that.

A very very rainy morning. No walk again, so I’ll use the treadmill. I might try and walk tomorrow but I’ll wait and see. I was planning on going to the Roseville gym and the library. I have some books to return and a hold to pick up. The rain is supposed to stop later and tomorrow looks sunny so that may be the deciding factor.

Despite the rain, B and I went to Costco. He needed the protein drink and he wanted cereal too. We bought some of the sale items, dishwasher pods, and Swiffer dusters, and it seems there was something else on sale. We got a rug for the entry way as we’ve been using a towel and that gets old. I picked eggs, tofu, milk, bananas, and salad mix and they had microgreens which I love. This was a new item. Oh, we picked up the vegetable barley soup for an easy dinner.

Yesterday, I did most of my house chores, so today is an easy day. For dinner, I made brown rice, sweet potatoes, grilled tofu, and broccoli, and there’s enough for lunch today or even dinner if I add something extra.

I started reading another Baldacci series, the Camel Club. So far I like the characters and the plot. My son gave me a great Christmas present of 6 or 7 Baldacci hardcovers he got at the thrift store. They are in almost new condition. What a great gift. He always zeroes in on the right gift for people. Plus he said he didn’t want to buy anything new but used/thrifted. Very Cool. He found the graphic novel, “March” by John Lewis and others at the thrift store too, and that made a great gift to B.

We’re halfway through Hanukkah and I only did a card and cash for each person. The cash was only a $2 bill which believe it or not are very hard to find. So I’m definitely winding down the gift-giving which is my goal.

We finished the “Astrid” series and it was really good. Now we need to find a new series to watch. Does anybody have a recommendation?

Well, off to read.

Frugal Friday

We are way over our grocery budget but most of that was extra Costco stuff. It’s ok, some months are like that. I think I’m sitting at about $700 right now. I just checked and it’s more like $900 as I didn’t add in the last Costco trip. Oh well, I have a freezer full and will just need veggies mostly to fill in the blanks.

I got gas at Costco which does save almost $1 a gallon from prices in Auburn. I have enough gas to get through next week. B has his chemo on Tuesday and that will be my last trip to Roseville for the week.

I plan on returning the clothes to Costco today. I did find a pair of the Fila I like and ordered them. If they don’t fit I’ll return them too. I think they were $12.99 at Costco.com.

We didn’t have any meals out and stuck to my menu plan. If we do eat out it’s always lunch anyway. But with B having no appetite it’s not worth going out for lunch.

The turkey order showed up so that’s in the freezer til Monday or Tuesday. I have a coupon for $15 off a whole Diestal turkey down at the Holiday but I’m not sure I’ll use it as they are usually bigger than I need or want. But I may check it out.

We’ve got a small break in the rain today and then it comes back in tonight. It’s supposed to be a colder storm too. From the little news I get now, I did see the PNW got slammed by this storm.

I haven’t checked out any Black Friday deals but B said the new Airpods with hearing enhancement are on sale. I may look at those for him as he does need something to help with hearing. I’ll check that out his weekend.

I have my annual mammogram scheduled for next week too so I can cross that off my list.

Menu for the week and other misc.

Last night neither of us felt like much dinner so I made a ramen bowl with tofu and a hardboiled egg. We like the spicy chili ramen.

I’m planning a few freezer meals to use things up.

lasagna is going to be first with some salad

scrambled tofu with zucchini I bought at Costco( probably won’t do that again since it is a lot of squash:( )

homemade mac and cheese and use more of the fish sticks up. (Costco has the big bags and they are good for a quick dinner). Salad stuff.

I have some naan bread in the freezer from Costco too, so I’ll make a curry for that. either tofu or chickpea. I like the Trader Joe’s red curry sauce. I have some frozen veggies I can throw in and use them up.

I made a recipe from Steve Sando’s Rancho Gordo cookbook. It was a chili using black beans and zucchini. It was a big hit and we all really loved the depth of flavor.

I have some goat cheese to use up so I might do a frittata.

I have a bag of broccoli( from Costco) and I’ll make a broccoli cheddar soup.

Yesterday, after my labs, I went to the gym and then the library. I didn’t have any holds but I dropped off 3 of the books I finished with and picked up a few books off the new shelf. Currently, I reading the very first Longmire book which is The Cold Dish. He writes so well and I love the history he brings into the books.

I had planned on swimming today and then Costco to pick up a tent that’s on sale but then just didn’t feel like it so it’ll be a home day. My daughter is planning to come up to Tahoe and spend a night( her birthday) and the trailer is too small so we thought we’d get a tent. We happened to see one when we were leaving last week so we thought we should get while it’s on sale. Plus, there were a few more sale things I didn’t get like the Kerry Gold butter. I think we’ll try tomorrow.

Today B is going to go to the plumbing place and order the shower pan and drain. The good news is he reached out on our local chit chat and asked about a plumber and got a few responses. So one guy showed up yesterday and gave us an estimate on the plumbing and even doing the tile. It was a reasonable estimate so we’re going to go with that. B still needs to take down the dry wall and open it up where the pipes will go. With the claw foot tub, the pipes are outside the wall so that needs to get changed. We might go into Home Depot tomorrow to buy the subway tile for the walls. We’re just planning white with a light grey mortar. Simple yet elegant( I hope). I’m hoping to do the floor in black and white tiles like you would see in a Parisian bathroom. Our bathroom is so small but I think the small octagon tiles will look good. I saw where you buy them as a sheet so that’ll make it easier to put down.

California poppies!!

more, flowers.

Wisteria. It’s almost done blooming.

Red clover. That tree in the background is a liquid amber that must have started as a seed from the park. It’s gotten quite big.

Simple Sunday

A big thank you to Kathy for suggesting Facebook Marketplace. I got rid of the quilting frame this morning and am very happy about that. The lady who took it said her mom was a quilter and had recently passed away and left tons of fabric. So I’m thrilled.

We went to Winco first for groceries. I got some stock-up stuff like mayo, ketchup, olives, and some salad stuff too.

From there we went up to Trader Joe’s and also got some stock up stuff but also things like chips. I love their potato chips. They remind me of the chips I grew up on which were called Wise. An East Coast thing.

Then we decided to get a coffee at Panera. It was ok and the bear claw was subpar, unfortunately.

Overall a nice trip out. The rest of the day is just being home and seeing what needs doing. It’s a beautiful day out, almost 70 degrees. I may go sit in the sun for a while.

This week I have PT and then Velcade on Wednesday plus driving from there to Sacramento to see Dr. L. A bit much but that’s the way it is. I totally forgot I’ll be taking Dex because I was planning on going to the gym. But since I don’t drive on dex days that’s going to have to wait. It’s funny how quickly you forget what the routine is.:(

For dinner, I have a white bean soup from the freezer unless something else jumps out.

That’s it, for now, the sunshine is calling.

A lovely day

I had a good gym workout and then headed into Safeway for a few things. Well, $90 later, I did get extra stuff. The usual, cat food, milk, some sliced turkey and on and on. It’s okay, I needed a few expensive things like mouthwash, and Polident for my Invisalign. Okay, I confess, I bought a little plant and some votive candles too.

The rain is coming in and it should be heavy at times. But we do need it. There’s also snow for the Sierras.

Tonight I’m making some sourdough pancakes and scrambled eggs. Usually, it’s Crockpot Thursday, but I’m just going wild here with pancakes.

Not a low spend day!

Ha, no low spend today. but I am counting the last few days of December so, I’m at 5 no spend days. But, today was trader joes , winco, Joanne’s, and finally Costco.

When I shop like this  I get home and tally my areas, food, non food, wine, cat food, household. Not sure where it all is yet, as I haven’t done it.

Woke up with my right leg, bothering me, doesn’t seem like a clot or anything, but it’s still bothering me. I don’t remember doing anything unusual yesterday so? Humm , I’ll just have to see how it is tomorrow .

Everyone is out tonight so I’ll have a salad, and some chicken salad I bought at Costco . Watch some T he Good Wife, and then read.

i still need to call my doctor about my blood work, but I’m too tired to do it today.

I’ll try and catch up with the house after I rest.

Tree day!

Well, it’s an exciting day around here. We are getting the first very large tee(ponderosa pine) taken down. Plus ,a very large oak branch that sits over the driveway where my daughter parks her vw. We won’t be here to see the action with a crane and crew as I’m heading down to Sacramento to the oncology office . I see the doctor and get zometa. So well be gone for all of the morning. Zometa,an IV, takes about an hour. But it’s getting in there, getting started etc, that can take a while. So I’m planning we’ll be home by 1pm. I am very excited, well not about the IV, but the tree!

Yesterday was also busy. we went to trader joes, and Winco.  I haven’t separated out food and non food, but it wasn’t too bad of a shop and I got a ton of things.

last night we had a yummy broccoli cheddar soup with cheese toast.  Tonight is spaghetti with a meat sauce, and marinara for the non meat eaters, salad and maybe I’ll pick up some garlic bread, or make it at least.

We are both up early so I can  get my walk in before the crew shows up and we need to leave by 8am to get to Sacramento.

Friday… Finally…

Well, it’s been a good week working everyday. I really enjoyed it even last night till 7pm. I’ll be here again tomorrow and then next week were off to Tahoe for a few days. it’s suppose to rain some tomorrow , that’ll be a nice change.

I will do an update on the September low spend challenge soon. I need to go to Costco, winco, and trader joes Sunday , but it’s not for a lot.

Sunday to do list

Yikes, we did a lot already and it’s just after 1 pm.

B and I walked 2.7 miles. This is the most I’ve walked yet. That was at 7am. Then breakfast, went to town. First stop Staples for more of the photo holders. Nope it was 9:45, not open till 10. Onward to the feed store for hay for the birds, nope 9:50 not open till 10.

down to Bel Air to return to extra spices B had gotten me for pickles , yes, they were open. Over to Home Depot for stuff, caulking, a hook ,and something else, can’t remember. Then over to target. Spent way too much, but got a bunch of organizing stuff. An oxo turn thing for my vitamins. A cute shelf thing that stacks the cans, very nice. A new set of fry pans as the ones were using are all scratched. The old ones are Rachel ray . I loved the orange color but they did not last. These new ones are kitchen aid. Not very expensive . My other pans are all clad. All clad my opinion are the best besides Lecruset. Then a new t shirt.

And of course cat food!!! then back to the feed store and staples. Yikes, this is a lot for me.

Then came home made some yummy bread( I had made the dough this morning), and started on the pickles. Then put up the shelf in the pantry and I really like how it stacks them . Very neat.

So, I think I’m going to go read for a while….
