Saturday stuff

B is going to rent a rototiller and do the garden and front lawn. Then we’ll have to buy a few yards of top soil. Since we’re in such a drought in california we’re not sure if we should plant more garden or some lawn. Our water bill is always high in the summer so I’m not sure.
I want to paint one more wall in the kitchen. This will be a first coat and then I think we’ll need to buy more paint. I really love the white. I didn’t think I would but I do . It’s serene and I like how it brightens everything up.

I’m off to work. I’ll be there alone today and I know I have at least 3 bins of transit. I may not get to shelving all that. It’s a little unusual to get that much so I’m thinking not a lot showed up the other day.

I’m still thinking about getting a monthly cleaner in but haven’t expored the cost. Maybe today I’ll go online and check. I think it would help me manage more easily. It seems even in the last 6 months I can’t do as much as I was, and I seem to not focus as well. Perhaps it’s the revlimid (chemo ) finally doing its thing. Also, I just seem to be having more physical issues. Oh well, I’m sure part of it is getting older and part dealing with the cancer side effects.

I have to plan dinners for the week, and budget money till next payday. But, I got gas and except for milk and a few things we have plenty of groceries.
I have a coupon for free smart chicken( the only chicken I’ll eat), at our Holiday market, so I’m going to get that after work and milk.

Library day

Well, off to work today. I’m always happy to go the best little job I’ve ever had. I’ll be sad when they let me go for the clerk who will take my place. I’m hoping at least fall before this happens. With the closure of two branches, it could go either way, 1. Oh look we have ,only to hire part time clerks , or 2. Oh,no! We can’t be hypocritical and say now we have money after saying we didn’t have money to keep the branches open. I don’t know.
I’d like to work at least another year if my health stays good.

Speaking of which, all of a sudden my right leg is bothering me. Is that one of the lytic lesions the radiologist saw. I’m not sure. My doctor said it looked ok. But I’m going to go back and read it again.
Plus, I’ll track it. Sometimes, it’s due to bending down or walking or who knows what.

Other than that, I drove in the new to us Honda CRV and it’s quite nice.
I’m taking the vw to work, it’s only a 3 mile drive. Still not sure I want to keep it, but for now I will drive it and alternate with my van.

It’s sunny today and warm. It’s suppose to be around 70 or so. Spring has sprung!!

Friday stuff, doctor update!

It’s been kinda a weird week. Last weekend I noticed having pain after i urinated.. Hummmm, so Monday off I go to my GP. Sure enough I have a bladder infection. Hummm, how. Well, it’s not pleasant but if you have a lot of diarehea, well, I guess you can put 2 and 2 together. So, today’s my last antibiotic. I don’t think , that I can remember , ever having a bladder infection. Well, live and learn.
So, since I had a low grade fever I didn’t work Tuesday, which means I lose 4 hours. Oh, well, it’s also a hard day as the other branch’s extra person was gone on vacation. It’s always something.

So, we looked at some more cars for my daughter on Wednesday. We eliminated the Impresa subaru. I’d love for her to find an outback, but they are way too expensive and used ones are really hard to find without a million miles on them.
So, I think we’ve narrowed it down to a Honda CRV. It’s a nice small size suv. And it has AWD. We looked at a 2007. I’d like to see if we can find one just a little newer. But , they are hard to find too.

So, doctor visit update. My kappa light chains are the same @ 780, lamda @16 , ratio @ 48. Still high but all other indicators are normal . Well my mprotein went up a bit to .5
He thinks one, I had the infection, two, we reduced my dex dosage and that will certainly have an effect.
I’m okay with it all. He says he does think the revlimid is still working so, I just started the next cycle. Also, I am IgG kappa myeloma. I actually never knew that. Or maybe he never told me. I don’t remember? Any Maybe so.

Anyway, like I said I’m ok with it right now, we’re monitoring every month and any sudden changes would be known pretty quick.
I’m off to the library in a bit. I missed it this week and am anxious to hear what’s new.
It’s cloudy but warm here @ 65-70 no rain.
I may drive my daughters VW to check whether I want to keep it as my car. I so love my van but I also love vws so… I buy it from her and then she’d use that money as part of her down payment.it has had some problems in the past but it has low miles and she just bought tires and did the timing belt which was. $700″bill.
Unless they gave us a great trade in ( unlikely) I’d maybe want to keep it or sell it privately.
Well, that’s it. The JKWP is at 653 continuous days of walking.

Simplifying , decluttering, rain and more!.

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

– William Morris

I’ve been back in the simplifying mode. I have a huge load to go to the little thrift store in town, but it’s been raining so much ,I haven’t been able to drop off. I read a blog about decluttering and I like his approach of everything needs a home. Pretty much the same as everything in its place and a place for everything. But , I like this little adaptation, that everything has a home or out it goes. I’m looking around and see a few more things to go.

With Christmas decorations up , it’s more visually cluttered, but I love our little bird tree, our snoopy tree, our big tree, and the ugly ornament tree. Yes, that’s a lot but we do enjoy them. My daughter and I did get rid of quite a few ornaments and quite a few of the hallmark boxes for ornaments that were not in the best shape. It takes up less space to wrap them in bubble wrap. I’m hoping to get everything in one plastic bin. That down from 4. It might end up I big bin and a small bin. I have 2 fake trees to give away too. So all in all lots of stuff going. My daughter does a great job purging, my son, not so much, his room is still a disaster zone. But I close the door, it is his space, so I respect that. Oh, I do go in and empty the burgeoning garbage pail.

RAIN,OMG, it was torrential. Our our got almost 4 inches of rain and there was flooding all over. Our driveway looked like a river. I get a little concerned with the ground being so saturated as that’s a way trees fall. But we need the rain in California ,so….

Saw the foot doctor too. It’s spurs on top of my foot. Surgery or ? She was little odd, not very revealing. She said I had a small mass under my ball of my foot from the bone trying to protect itself. She tried to drain it but when nothing happened, she said ,I guess it’s bursitis thing.( not sure if that’s what she said). Anyway I got a cortisone shot, and she wasn’t sure if that would help. She also said my feet don’t land right and I could benefit from orthopedic things to put in shoes, to the tune of $450. I said , let’s do it. She thought the reason the spurs happened is because of this. I’m going to try that, and give it 6 months. Then I’ll reconsider the bone shaving surgery ( yuck!).

I’m off to the library this morning.

maybe I’ll do a little more holiday decorating , if there’s any left to do.

Also, someone suggested to put the friends for sale books in alphabetical order. Good idea.

Not sure what’s on the dinner menu, but probably pasta with spinach as have a lot to use.

Ramblings

I wrote a blog yesterday and then deleted it. Why? Well, I kinda felt it was a downer and a little like crying over spilt milk. Yes, in our youth we lived a simple life and still do. Lots of blogs I read( that make lots of money), are all about cooking simply, eating simply, baking , etc etc. With the WWW. All this is available instantly for people to read. Sometimes I feel why didn’t we have this then but that wasn’t the case. Not  30 years ago…. So, I just want to let that go and write about my life now. Living with myeloma, trying to be a minimalist, living simply and frugally. So that’s what I’ll do. I walk everyday and watch the day begin, live that day as best I can and then get up and do it all over again. I’m fortunate that with my myeloma I’m not symptomatic right now except my red and white blood counts are low.

I’m off to the library for an iPad training( really?). I mean all I use is an iPad. I guess it’s a way to waste some money. Then I’m going to drop off a load to good will or Salvation Army. I sorta hate to give to goodwill as they are profit and SA isn’t. But there drop off is so easy. Then home and bookclub at  4.

Just keeping on!

It’s Tuesday. So it’s my work day. Tuesday is usually our busy day. We’ll see. It rained last night and it’s nice this morning. It’s a very pretty fall. We’ve lost at least one more tree to bark beetles, so I think that’s 5. Not sure what we will do. I just hope that’s it, but it looks like I see the top of one more starting. We still have the date for November for the big oak and one pine. It’s a lot of money to do but I think it’ll be worth it. These down the hill will just have to wait.

I started some crock pot pintos for dinner and I’ll make chicken enchiladas after the tortillas thaw out later. I’ll make enough to freeze at least one dinners worth. Last week I did 20 stuffed potatoes and 12 bean burritos. It makes sense to make what we eat and not stuff that’s just extra. When I started batch cooking, I made all sorts of recipes from the freezer cookbook. But some weren’t really to our liking. So, live and learn.

So far still feeling pretty good except my ball of my foot, which I’m guessing is a bunion or arthritis ? I’m going to get a referral to a podiatrist but that may take time. Tonight’s my last revlimid for this cycle and then it’s wait for blood test and doctor appt.

Other than that nothing too much going on. That’s nice really.

Apricot jam!

Yumm, made 6 pints of apricot jam this morning. ImageI’m off to the library shortly .its probably going to be slow but you never know. I didn’t sleep well at all last night. Usually I’d take Ativan , but I’m off that for now.

It’ll be interesting what news we heat this week about the clerk position because this is the last week of the fiscal year. Yes? No????

JKWP update

We are on day 388. I haven’t been Miss Enthusiastic, but I’m still doing it……

ImageHere’s the park around 5:30.

so I worked yesterday, and left a note for UPS, I’d be home  around 2:15. He didn’t show up till @3:45. So , I started on time last night. Tonight is dex, I’m thinking of taking 20 this week and 16 next week? I don’t know I’ll probably just keep it at 16 and see what my m spike is next month. :

Made cole slaw for dinner and since I bought large tomatoes at Costco, I think I’ll make BLT’s for dinner with cole slaw.  Otherwise stuffed tomatoes ? I’ll see when I get home from the library. More library drama. My daughter did NOT get the clerk job. She’s worked there 5 years as a page and is in a MLS program. They hired outside  which completely sucks and does not show that they care at all about helping someone like my daughter who is so qualified. But the real clincher is now there is going to be a clerk 20 hours a week position open in the branch she works at. She is scheduled only for 12 hours at this branch next pay period…… So the question is , is this going to be a lateral for someone, or is she going to get this. If she doesn’t she is going to quit, and you know what, I agree.

She is so talented, completely tech savy, the patrons love her, but if admin can’t see it then she’s better off going to school full time and finishing. So that she update on library dramas.

oh, I know , does anyone use fitbit.? I thought I’d get one for my husband as his company is doing a walking challenge..

Back from Tahoe , and off to the library today.

imageWe had an awesome time. It was beautiful up there as always. We walked down to the lake and around the campground at 5:30 each morning. Then later we biked around too. I was a little sore but regrouped the next day. I read a lot on my new kindle and relaxed.imageWe had some good meals, salmon one night and a steak another. Plus there’s always the veggie option of tofu dogs, BBQ tofu etc.

My daughter and husband both swam in Tahoe, but not me… Too cold…..

we had fun looking at different rvs and really want to upgrade. But this is what we’ve had for 14 years and do love it. But, I’d really like a bathroom and a shower inside. Actually, it’s almost necessary for me with my dex and revlimid bathroom issues.

But, I’m trying to be practical so… This is it for now.

so, I’m off to work today. It’ll be interesting to see who she got to work my shifts. Not that I’m an important person there but our branch is a little different . Especially when new people show up. But, I’m only a page, so it’s not my worry.

The weather here at home is gorgeous. It’s like going to be 80 today. Very nice.

Friday financials

Wow, we still have money going out and for some reason all these misc bills coming in. The fire tax, a medical copay??,not sure why this is coming in, my sons extra class money for the fall semester, our propane tank bill, and I think some others, oh, yeah, my husbands crown expense at the dentist. So , the budget is stretched way too thin. We’ re off next week to Santa Cruz, so I’m not going to worry about it all till we are back. I’ve got our $5.00 savings, and I’ll bring that. It’ll be depleted but it’s for travel, so that’s what it’s for.

It’s suppose to be in the 90’s here. What is up with that.

Today, JKWP has 20 days left. So tomorrow we are under 20. Yeah, us!

so, I’m pretty over my rant about library stuff. Especially since my daughter is applying for a full time job with the library. Of course, who knows what they’re looking for, and I’m sure they already have a good idea of who they want. But, for her sake it would be awesome.

I never had a full time job and it’s something I wish I had. It was never for lack of trying, but not continuing to try. Also, when I was ready after my daughter turned 9, I was at 41 pregnant and had my son at 42, so, that changed the picture ….Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.
