Mid century furniture

imageI fell in love with mid century furniture around 10 years ago. It was when I started collecting all things mid century or even 1940’s. Vintage buttons, fans(which I still adore), dishes,Life magazines, etc. Most to these collections of given away.Yes, just given to various people I know will enjoy them. But it was probably Heywood wakefield furniture I have loved the most. Most of its too expense for us, but I did find a few pieces locally and then eBay. Nothing too expensive but still love the birch wood and the rounded corners. Most of it is light wood(the birch) often in either champagne or another light stain.

So when we bought the double wishbone table and chairs the people had 2 arm chairs they threw in for free(not really free) since we probably overpaid on the table and chairs. But they needed reupholstering . Of course, i just knew “someday” I’d get it done. Well, the time has come to realize ,Im not going to get it done. It would just be too expensive to do 2 chairs. So, I’m finally doing it, and giving them to Habitat for Humanity. Some lucky person can reupholster them. They are a deal if you know what to do, which I do not.

Rainy, windy Sunday!

More snow in the sierras and quite windy and rainy here. We live about 1:30 hours from tahoe, on the I 80 corridor. So our elevation is about 1700 feet. Lovely most of the year. The storm has passed from here but still going in the mountains. We’ll  see how tomorrow is for my daughter driving to work.

A slow day. Didn’t do a whole lot. Tomorrow I need to go pay  a dmv renewal at AAA, then Target for some shower curtains. Who knows what else I’ll find. I’m trying to use a new Google doc spread sheet for budgeting. It’s challenging but I will persevere. I’m working on next years financial goals and they had better be good. We spent alot of money on house maintenance this year, so next needs to be less. Although, our refrigerator is ready to explode. Each time it clicks off it clunks loader and loader. I’m holding my breath we get thru christmas

Christmas  will be small even if I’ve still spent a small fortune. Honestly, I wonder where it goes. But, all in all not too bad. I had in the Santa fund $1200, and think I went over by about $300. But that’s including lots of little things and food etc. so not to bad.

Well, I’m going to try and total the amounts this week.

Beautiful Lake Tahoe

imageIt is amazing here. We’re at our favorite place,Lakeland Village.  B is heading off to do a reset today and tomorrow , so this is a work trip and pays for the room. Usually we go out to eat too (work pays his, but last night we just ate some mac and cheese. Tonight make go out, but the snow is soon to arrive.

After my difficult bout with nausea from he Velcade on monday I wasn’t sure I could go as I was curled up in a ball all day. But I had the doctor call in Zofran. My shot yesterday went smooth and easy. I think it’ll work out well. Not sure if the nausea will continue. But you just have to stay ahead of it. Mostly, I’m willing to put up with it if I get a good response. We’ll know sometime after christmas….

Tomorrow theres still snow so we will leave a little later. the weather here in South Lake Tahoe can be totally different than going over the summit. the summit is 7000 feet or so lake level 6000, so different patterns.

Oh,  my labs came back great. My neutrophil count was over 4500 and my platelets at 246 thousand/ul. On Pomalyst ,remember my neutrophils would tank so, hopefully Velcade,at least after the first shot has not done this. But Velcade affects platelets so thats the one to watch. I was great on that at least this week. I have to say i was quite taken back by the nausea, and said to my self…gee I remember chemo nausea , so that was a reminder that 10 years going on 11 i’m still a cancer patient.:(

The week ahead.

These are few of the ugly ornaments!!!

Yesterday was the costco trip. I don’t think we will be back before christmas. I bought an organic apple pie and froze 1/2 for Christmas dessert. We’re not big dessert eaters so that should be fine. We bought a nice selection of wines, that was buy 6 and get $18 off. None of them individually was more than $6.00 so good deal. And some champagne. Potatoes for latkes last night and then B said they were organic so even better. Plus the usual coffee, TP , oatmeal etc. All in all ,not  too bad. But that’s my shopping for the month except for things to fill in. i’ll need lasagne noodles for Christmas and a few things like that

Today, I did the kitchen zone, always the biggest in our little house. Just need to mop the floor.

Wednesday we go down to Sac for my second Velcade shot. Then I’ll take the dex when I get home. We’re suppose to go to Tahoe( B for work, me for fun) but its suppose to be snowing and it’ll be a dex day. So, I guess I’ll see how I feel tomorrow. I wasn’t feel great this morning so…

A fellow blogger asked about my ugly ornament tree. See pictures above!!

Well, we all know not all ornaments are Hallmark so somehow we ended up with some weird ornaments and my daughter (quite the funny person) suggested we start an ugly ornament tree.

Friday Stuff

We had quite a bit of rain yesterday and the sierra got quite a bit of snow. It took my daughter an extra 1/2 hour to get home. Today it is sunny and beautiful.

Didn’t do too much this morning around the house since all the decorations are up. We still have the bird tree, ugly ornament tree, the snoopy tree and the one big one for other ornaments. We bought that one last year on sale. Its a nice tree. So all done. It looks festive. Sunday at sundown to Hanukkah and we will light the candles.. Or the first candle to be exact. I’m  only doing a money envelope the first night and then thats it. plus I’ll make potato latkes, which we all love.

I was looking at someones blog called rustyduck.net ( i think) and she had some amazing pictures of Norway. Since I will never visit Norway it was a real treat to see this and experience a part of the world that is so different. Check it out her bog is quite lovely.

my velcade shot area is diminishing in redness so thats good. Next shot next Wednesday. I did feel a twinge of numb feeling in my pinky finger so I’ll be watching this. Right now its minuscule but I am super sensitive to my body, so we’ll see.

This weekend is a costco trip, mostly for coffeeand TP… always the important things…image

December goals and budget

So far, pretty good on the Velcade. Even taking the dex in the morning, I did really well. So I’m hopeful this will work and I get a good response. I won’t have any blood work till after Christmas so,it’s a waiting game. But I feel good.

This morning it’s cloudy and it must have rained some over night and at least it warmed up. I had a nice walk this morning.

So, today part of the budget is to go pay property taxes, then dollar store and target for more lights. ( tree lights). We use lights all year on our house outside since there is no outdoor lighting. Plus I love the twinkle of them.

I’m going to be really careful with the food budget and keep track of it. The other day we spent $100 at trader joes, and I will go to Costco on Sunday. Some of that is non food stuff ,so I may take that out of food $ and see if separating it makes a difference. Christmas shopping is done except some $ for my brother and a few gift things for a friend.

December goals include having as many no spend days as possible.

Walk extra on the treadmill.

visit with my friend for Hanukkha.

do something special with B( maybe Tahoe alone)?

plan budget numbers for 2016 including non monthly bills(properly tax, car tags etc)

Write out goals for house and yard updates. We need a new bathroom fan, stepping stones for outside etc…
