Working the budget

imageWell, the rain has stopped. Actually since we weren’t camping it was great to get that much rain for the garden . But, it’s suppose to be 100 by the weekend. Go figure?,!

So, it’s budget day. All Julys bills are in and I have a few to write out and send. But, I send those to coordinate with the next pay check. I’d hoped to have the Prius paid off by now but as usual we are not really ahead. I put$50 in Santa, and moved $500 back to sinking. It’s again not what I hoped but at least it’s something. Groceries I’ve put at $300 and that may have to include non food. I’m going to do some batch cooking for the freezer ,so I made need more bulk items. Yesterday, I made a spinach lasagna and this yummy pesto penne pasta bake. Both are in the freezer. I’m going to do enchiladas and double stuffed potatoes. It’s off to Costco today and winco. June we did spend less on food, but non food and cat food were too high.

If you remember our cat tucker has feline diabetes, so we are feeding him can food every 4 hours.

I’m not budgeting any clothes for July. We spent too much in June which is unusual. I almost never buy clothes but I found a few things I needed. I still need new walking shoes, but that will have to wait till I see how the budget is. B needs tires and a 30,000 mile service. Both big money items for us.

So yesterday, I decided not to box up the Franciscan dishes. I decided I don’t use the shelves their on,because there too high for me. So I’m going to see if I do use them , if not ….

I got school art and main lesson books( for you Waldorf people), down to 1 bin. We also have almost another load to go to the thrift store. A tent with no poles I found. Where the heck did that come from? So out in our funky barn we have shelves I the middle ,that actually help the structure, and that’s where I store Christmas etc. My goal is to only have what will fit on these shelves. Christmas is about 4 bins, LOTR binders( kids stuff) 1 bin, art work 1 bin, Z’s brio set 1 bin, Star Trek stuff 2 bins if I’m honest:) ,and some others. But it’s almost where it’s good for now.

What I’ve discovered in this simplifing journey, is each time I go thru stuff, I find less to keep, less that really just doesn’t need to be stored in a bin. Many many years ago, we were very influenced by everything Japanese. Hence , my daughters name is Sachiko. But we were very wabi sabi. Alan watts kinda, “Uncarved Block, Unbleached Silk”. So I guess it’s always been there for us. But after you live somewhere 20 years, stuff accumulates. We still have a very small house( under 1000 sq ft), but as anyone with kids knows, stuff just appears. So it’s now, less is more.

Still no Internet!

ImageWe are still without Internet. We switched to u verse thinking that would solve the problem. No!

my husband changed all the phone wire, No!, so we’ve called for a technician ,which is going to cost $99 to START. WTF, it is driving me crazy. So here I am wifi ING from the library. 😦

I got my new bread baguette pan from Williams Sonoma yesterday , so I can’t wait to try it.

Our dear friend got married yesterday. It was lots of fun! His house is beautiful. I would love to have that much open space, our house always seems a little dumpy after visiting places like that.  Oh well. We have a roof over our head at least.

so were off to Tahoe on Sunday, but it’s suppose to be cooler, maybe a little rain.

Our budget has been completely shot. No zero balance, we even took money from our sinking funds( do not touch), to get camping food. UGhH it has been a tough week!

Thursday update!

No skunks in the trap yet…. I saw 3 of the babies last night. Ugh….

On another note, I need to go in an open the library at 3 , it’s ok, I don’t mind going in for 2 hours. Sue, the branch manager, has to close the other branch. I’ll just get things going, do book drop and then she can do the rest. I’m there alone tomorrow ,so I can shelve.

its a little hotter today and by Saturday wow in the triple digits.

Putting in a freezer meal and then I decided to try the pizzas in the book”not your mothers make ahead and freeze cookbook” . So far the only 2 things that didn’t seem to fit what we like we’re the breakfast stuff. I think mostly the eggs didn’t microwave great. Other than that it’s been great and I think ive saved money.

I’m trying not to do any big shopping till next payday, but I do need some vegies and a few things. It seems I usually need more over the weekend. This next payday there isn’t a lot left over to save, but I will add $50 to Christmas.

im thinking about opening an ING savings/checking, any body have any good ideas? Not sure about it. We have checking and savings with a credit union. But they don’t have an allowance for more than 2 or 3 savings . I have a Christmas , EF, and sinking. But sinking funds tend to get mixed up with household things or whatever  and I like the individual ones ING has to offer, but is it worth it and how hard or easy is it to get the money?

Any ideas?

Hopefully next week will even out financially. It’s been tough, I’m hoping with B’s bonus in June we will catching up.

Budget updates

It seems we are off budget, but we’ve had some I unexpected costs, primarily vet bills and a lot of special cat food for Tucker. That was $186 and $56. Plus out of our sinking funds, Costco membership, and AAA membership. So our one sinking fund is down below $1000. That’s part of my zero balance. Hopefully it will get replenished when B’s bonus comes in at the end of June. I’d really like to add at least another $1000.

Z will have books to buy in August for college. And his birthday is August so there’s always more expenses.

we have gotten a place to bring the tent trailer in Tahoe in June. Our favorite place Nevada beach is totally booked solid. I just do t think of it soon enough and then there gone. I’ll keep checking for cancelations which does happen.

I wish the font would stay and not click off.  So the budget will be a little tight for the first of June . Most of our big bills, mortgage ,car payments etc are due then. But we only have a handful of Prius payments left which is a good thing because the #%^**** student loans will kick in. I’m still waiting to see the final result with mine being in a total and permanent discharge. It’ll be just B’s but we don’t know what yet.
